The fire is almost at pine valley and the Julian area in mandatory evc. The fires are about a 10 mile wall just south west of Pine Valley and heading north east. Looks like Cleveland is being hit hard.
Just in on fox new fire crews are looking for routs out of the area fire chief told new crew he does not think he can hold the fire off.
Fire crew area staging in Julian is going to be a hold point to save the town.
North peck in on fire just north or the Cuyamaca state park
Harrison Park is burning at this point

It was published by law enforcement authorities this morning. Local San Bernardino law enforcement officials held a press conference about 1:30pm today to update the media and ask for the public's help in identifying the person in the sketch. The source for the sketch is said by law enforcement to be an eyewitness who saw two men in a gray van on Saturday throwing matches or something out the van window into the brush. That's all we in the public have been told.

Donate to the Salvation Army. We're in Michigan, my dad was a volunteer firefighter. The Salvation Army was very helpful to firefighters and those who suffered from fires; the Red Cross was useless.

Like you, I am sickened. A spokesman has told Rick Roberts that the 16 mile Alpine fire is completely out of control and that they have no means to stop its march to Julian.
Unbelievable.

Yes, I understand that. But when you watch what is happening, its the Red Cross volunteers here that are working very diligently on the lines here and in the burned neigborhoods. Of course they are not the higher-ups in the organization.
I did hear that Father Joe of St. Vincent de Paul Village here is accepting donations and they are getting the supplies here locally and bringing them to the Red Cross volunteers.
Father Joe is a great fixture here in San Diego and I feel I can trust him and the great work he does.

LA firefighters in Lake Arrowhead have no local radios....

Just picked this up off of the Channel 11 website:
Evacuations now mandatory in Big Bear area
(Big Bear) -- Evacuation is now mandatory in: Big Bear Valley, Barton Flats, Seven Oaks, Angeles Oaks, Forest Falls and Mountain Home Village. The evacuation order applies to 35-thousand residents of the San Bernardino mountains.
The sheriff's department is asking residents to leave area via hwy 18 thru Lucerne to evacuation centers in high desert at Hesperia HS and Apple Valley HS. Animals are to be taken to Victor Valley Fairgrounds.
Seems they want them to go down the back side of the Mountains instead of come down into Redlands/Yucaipa area on HWY 38.

That's disgraceful; any explanation given?

Julian is an absolute treasure of the state. Fall time in Julian is just so amazing. One of my co-workers does an annual pilgrimage there, and has for over a decade.

Some CBS webcam caps from earlier today:
School campus; seems to be saved
House close to being consumed.
The
CBS Webcam has been providing almost continuous coverage, with occasional glitches.
Channel 4 news van is going, going...

I agree the Salvation Army is the best choice.

LOVE your tagline! That was my favorite line from Bush's inauguration speech. Brings tears to my eyes.

The sketch shows a man with straight hair, wide cheekbones, and a flater bridge of the nose that starts lower down between the eyes rather than at eyebrow level. Those characterstics typically are Asian in origin, and also in peoples who descend from Asian populations, like Native Americans. The eyes are also very different. The man in the photos has heavy upper eyelids and deep-set eyes, while the man in the sketch does not.

Just got back on MSNBC -- reporter interviewing firefighter who said they had slopover but lost just one structure. Don't know what area they were talking about, but doesn't seem like it would be Lake Arrowhead they are talking about because KCBS pictures showed a different story. Any clarification from anyone?

This news yahoo on KUSI is using his Thomas Bros. Map and pointing with a pen where his reporter is located, and where the fire is. Hey KUSI, you might want to invest in a graphics department for situations like this. Sheeeesh.
Well, at least they're live with local info. The reporter was just saying that some sheriffs came by the overlook where they were and said the fire was about 1 hour away from them, no worries. Then some fire chief came flying in and around the overlook, and told them that they (the ff) were looking for an evacfuation route, since the fire was getting out of control and they were looking for another way out, said that it was about 1/2 hr away. He seemed not to know who to believe?? What a nut, you're going to believe the sheriffs over the fire chief??
