"It looks like WWIII."
A FReeper over the weekend took issue with my unhappiness about the relative TV coverage of the fires (very poor) vs. the East Coast blackout (wall-to-wall). Yes, I know the blackout covered a few states and started at rush hour, and no one knew what caused it at first, but the bottom line is that with the blackout, people were inconvenienced. What's happening here is unimaginable death and devastation (and we're not *absolutely* positive what "caused" this in every instance, either). This also affects people across the country who are wondering if their loved ones are safe or have their homes. Maybe if he were in the middle of all this he'd see things differently.

Just as an aside, the moved Monday Night Football game was free. 55,000 in attendance. They didn't have time to print and market tickets.

I cannot believe it -- what is it -- if it isn't happening on the East Coast, it doesn't happen and no one is interested.

I live on the east coast and share your unhappiness with the relative lack of coverage of these fires.
I wonder if the networks think that the rest of the country is in a sort of California burnout between wall to wall coverage of the recall and the Kobe Bryant trial?????
Whatever the reason, the minimal coverage of these horrendous fires is inexcusable.

I have been out of hte news loop the past few days, and never realized it was being so undercovered. I heard about it Friday...I was SHOCKED when I decided to get online early this morning to catch up on the news and discovered it was THIS BAD. I've been obsessively getting info on the fires all day.
Discovered early that my brother is ok in Santa Cruz...but our MOTHER never knew that, and she's been watching Fox News all weekend! Only cable news channel she'll watch, and they really let her down. She was really worried because she hadn't heard from him!
