Father: Brain-damaged daughter responsive

PINELLAS PARK, Florida (CNN) --The father who has fought for more than five years to keep his brain-damaged daughter alive said when he visited her Thursday, she turned down his kisses, saying, "Uh-uh."

"I was in front of her and I'm kissing her on the cheek, and she doesn't like that," said a smiling Bob Schindler after visiting his 39-year-old daughter Terri Schiavo.

Michael Schiavo has declined to comment on whether there is an outstanding life insurance policy on his wife.

Who would pay-off on a policy like this?

It is WAY past time to get Judge Greer off this case. Have there been any formal attempts to force him out, due to his past affiliation with both the hospice and Felos? The appearances (and quite likely realities) of impropriety can't be eliminated as long as every single significant decision is left up to this one judge.

I've wondered about that too. His refusal to deny there is one, makes me think there must be one. But if so, where the heck are the insurance company's lawyers? Perhaps if it's a relatively small policy, the insurance company has just decided it would be more expensive to wade into this legal mess, than to just pay on the policy.

Bush signed the bill but he also issued an executive order. In order to prevail, Schiavo's minions must get both nullified. Easier said than done.

Getting the law nullified doesn't affect the executive order.

The legislature, from what I have been able to find out, so far, can take action to override an executive order. But the legislature is on board so there is no usuroation of their poewrs at issue. If there were they could petition for a judicial remedy.

That hasn't happened.

If the court tries to intrude into the legitimate powers to the legislative and executive branch, they'll be on pretty thin legal ice.

BTW I came accross this interesting tidbit.

This is part of an executive order issued by Jeb Bush in 2001.

It had no expiration date. Im wondering if he ever rescinded it. If not doesn't it make any appeal by Schiavo, Felos, or the ACLU moot?

After all, the courts are a government entity.

THis is also a good example of the sweeping executive power he has to act when he deems necessary.

I think many of them have the same mentality as those who try and goad a potential suicide to jump off the bridge.

Once the Supreme Court legalized abortion, the sanctity of life was lost. You are absolutely right to use the term "creatures". There is much evil surrounding this case. You can be certain that Terri's case will end up before SCOTUS. It will be the 'roe v wade' of the Euthanasia crowd.

As for the notion that many live in this country, look at Holland where Euthanasia has now been legalized. Ready to die? No problem, here's a shot to help you along.

Jeb Bush could use that technicality or innumerable others, to stop this insanity and get Terri to safe harbor.
He won't do it.
We are all very glad Terri's no longer being starved and dehydrated, but not all of us call what Jeb did "leadership."
He passed the buck to the legislature. C* h* b* instead of taking a firm stand and let come what may. To the good, Terri's out of immediate danger of starvation, and the media is paying better attention. Not to the good, she remains at the mercy of Michael Schiavo and his wacko lawyer and a biased judge.
Jeb could have ordered protective services---or law enforcement---to take custody of her, under law both state and federal, in his capacity as executive. And let the dogs bark while her caravan rolled to safety.

After watching the panel on Greta's show last night, I was just dumbstruck that so many of them were nodding sagely about the fact that it was far too expensive to maintain all the brain-damaged people for years. Talk about Hitler redux! That Geoffrey Fieger is a piece of work, not to mention that doctor who kept bloviating about Terri's actions all being "reflexes". Horse feathers! If Greta is fair and balanced, I'm the Queen of England.

Sorry, but I have no problem for my tax dollars going to help an indigent brain-damaged person have whatever quality of life is left to her, far more than I agree with the government paying Ted Turner, Jimmuh Cahtah and other fat cats farm subsidies. Good grief, where are our priorities in this country???

Wolfson's fitness to represent Terri is no longer of any importance since judge Greer has already decided to appoint him. Facts and truth mean nothing to an incompetent judge.

I may be wrong, but I think the GAL issue ended up in Judge Demeres's (sp?) court, not Greer's.

Is it a fait accompli? Even if it is, if this man is not temperamentally appropriate to represent Terri, then he can be removed.
