TALLAHASSEE, FL -- According to a news release sent by the Terry Schindler-Schiavo Foundation, Florida Speaker Johnnie Byrd will introduce "Terri's Bill" during the special session Monday.
The bill would put an immediate moratorium on all dehydration and starvation deaths in Florida. Meanwhile, supporters of Terri Schiavo showed up Sunday outside a Pinellas Park hospice.
Doctors say Schiavo has been in a vegetative state since complications from a heart attack in 1990. Her husband was granted a court order that her feeding tube be removed, saying his wife wouldn't have wanted to be kept alive.

That's true. I didn't think of that.LOL

YOu know what? If God takes her, I frankly hope it will be tonight before the Senate can finish up this "CYA" bill....If God takes Terri home, I doubt it will be to one-up the FloriDUH legislators.
and that is all I believe this bill was intended for in the first place. If they had wanted to save that woman, they would have done this when Jeb first started his hand-wringing and whining last week. That the Senate won't even bother to look at it today seals my opinion.
Now this is quite possibly true. The other scenario is that "they" are a bunch of spineless idiots who waited too long. "They" HAD to do something, I think, due to the efforts of Terri's FRiends! If it saves Terri or if it sets a precedent for those of us fighting the culture of death, then it'll ultimately be good no matter how it came about. But, I totally sympathize with your outrage, kiddo!!
Had these pigs been voting themselves a raise now, they would have been at it all night and then some. With few exceptions, this has been nothing but a CYA manuver.
Yes. It's utterly sickening.

All the Repubs were good but Fiorentino stole the show.

I read that a bill doesn't get to the floor without his ok, and he went on record as sympathetic, so I'm assuming he paved the way.

The key is to cage it as a way to PREVENT future innocents from being killed/murdered:
THe problem here is that HE SAID she didn't want to be kept alive. NO ONE else knows what she wanted.
So, the 15 day period should also add:
Ought to add a requirement (for FL at least!) that all future wills include a living will section for: (1) only minor action to keep the signee alive if they are unconscious, (2) normal sustaining action (3) heroic sustaining action desired.
That Driver License renewal include that authorization as a signature,
That AT LEAST 3 out of 5 medical members on an elected state medical board review and authorize (for the governor) approval to remove life support if there are questions/conflicts. (No more single judge ruling!)

I emailed the whole blooming Senate yest morning, but will write another letter acknowledging the house action tonight and urging the senators to do likewise.
Not letting up on anybody! :)

I'm going to read my little prayer book (even though I'm not Roman Catholic) before going to bed. Spent quite a bit of time with it this afternoon - later evidence, it was not a waste.
Have an appointment in the morning, so I've already e-mailed Jeb to RECONNECT TERRI'S TUBE NOW!!!
goodnight

The key is to cage it as a way to PREVENT future innocents from being killed/murdered: Right. Jeb Bush may be able to stay Terri's murder indefinitely (if she's still alive) but the law will do nothing for any cases that arise more than 15 days from now.
I've posted on some other threads some of the other laws that are also needed. One which could be important in many cases would be to explicitly specify certain circumstances in which a judge must appoint a guardian ad litem. Present statute provides that one is needed when there is a potential conflict between the interests of guardian and ward, but leaves the judge to decide when such conflict does or does not exist.
Another thing that needs to happen is for someone with the power to do so to order an audit of Terri's trust fund's books. A guardian ad lib would have done this ages ago, but Greer has refused to appoint one. Greer is very likely complicit in some major shenanigans; I would be surprised if Terri's is the only trust fund he's allowed to be raided.
What trust-fund records are public? Who would have access?
