Gov. Bush calls special session over Terri Schiavo

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- According to a news release sent by the Terry Schindler-Schiavo Foundation, Florida Speaker Johnnie Byrd will introduce "Terri's Bill" during the special session Monday.
The bill would put an immediate moratorium on all dehydration and starvation deaths in Florida. Meanwhile, supporters of Terri Schiavo showed up Sunday outside a Pinellas Park hospice.
Doctors say Schiavo has been in a vegetative state since complications from a heart attack in 1990. Her husband was granted a court order that her feeding tube be removed, saying his wife wouldn't have wanted to be kept alive.

Greer would have the case still but have no control over the GAL because the chief judge of the circuit court appoints the GAL. GAL reports to the Governor and the court. Gov makes decision whether a stay should be issued.

For me this has been a like a train wreck. You see it about to happen and you can't believe it *will* happen.
As horrible as it is, I think it took Terri actually beginning to starve for the horror to really sink in to us all.
I don't think it would have been this impassioned if it had happened a week ago.

But Greer would have no jurisdiction over the GAL. The GAL would report to the Governor as well as the court. May go to the Fla Supreme Court.

Thank you for that info, and for your phone calls. If the House doesn't make any new changes, I wonder if the bill really has to go back to the Senate again. This is excruciating. I haven't read any family reports about how Terri is holding up today.
