Cool. If you could do it, I can.

I guess it also helps that the Yankees win a lot too!

I love it!

Hitchcock in his prime was a 3rd starter on other teams, but he's lost his game almost completely. I doubt he'd make the starting rotation anywhere these days, including Detroit. Weaver has wicked stuff on occasion, but it appears he can't handle the pressure of playing in the Big Apple --- not an unusual disease.

Doesn't matter where we all live, when the Yankees are on I know 2 other people who are watching and it's like there right there with me.

LOL... this sounds like my family too (native New Yorkers) only with the Mets and the football Giants.

There was one Mets game a few years ago that went about 14 innings or some such horrendously long period. I stayed up to watch it and called my father around midnight. He was up watching it too and we ended up watching it together on the phone for the next 2 or so hours, until it ended.

Now THAT was some phone bill ::lol::.

Yes, he said that. Regarding the series between the Yankees and the Diamondbacks, right after the terrorist mass murder attacks on the World Trade Center. Remember when President Bush made the first pitch for a game in NY? He was asked who he wanted to win the World Series and he said the Diamondbacks because he'd like to see "anyone but the Yankees" win. He said it in a good natured way, not so serious or anything like that.

I understand the Yanks and Marlins [whoever they are] will play a few more games someplace, but that's of little interest. Ho hum. When is spring season?

Nice try, but the Bosox spent nearly half a billion dollars to beat the Yankees, including $160 million for Manny Ramirez alone, who was a non-factor in this series despite 2 HRs.

Bottom line...

Yankees $180,000,000

Red Sox $104,873,607

Almost half!

Incidentally the Yankees were the only team to pay the luxury tax (a paltry 10 mil).

Why is it Red Sox fans always bring up the salary payroll thing when they lose?

Are you trying to tell us that the Red Sox didn't have a better batting lineup than the Yankees? They won the AL batting title as a team.

1. I am NOT a sox fan.

2. I was responding to a post which made the claim that Boston spent a comparable amount of money to catch up to the Yankees. Go back and read it.

This thread was a great real-time reporting of events.

It sadly reminded of those 9/11 threads, which always bring tears to my eyes whenever I read them. It impressed on me that this all is just about a dumb game.

Here is the Magic:

Baseball payrolls by average annual value as of July 15 (and reflecting the Yankees-Mets trade of July 16) as compiled by the commissioner's office for luxury tax purposes and obtained by The Associated Press.

Payrolls are for 40-man rosters and include averages of multiyear contracts plus $7,552,271 to cover health and pension benefits; clubs medical costs; insurance; workman's compensation, payroll, unemployment and Social Security taxes; spring training allowances; meal and tip money; All-Star game expenses; travel and moving expenses; postseason pay; and college scholarships.

The projected luxury tax is assessed at a rate of 17 percent on the amount above $117 million. The actual luxury tax will be assessed on the final payroll after the season.
