PLEASE ,PLEASE go to the website http://www.terrisfight.org and read the letters that have just been sent to Jeb Bush in regards to the Terri Schiavo case. JEB BUSH can LEGALLY STOP THIS. CALL his office, CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES, CALL and email the media.THE CLOCK is ticking to save her life.

Sorry if this post isn't " polished" and " refined" but I am not a seasoned " poster" here on FR.

Do you hold that the government has a duty to deprive food and water to every citizen?

No, I do not. UNLESS such withholding is written into the law, as it is in this case.

And you object to people suggesting you hold to nazi philosophy?

"Of course it was OK to exterminate those Jews. Why, it was even written into the law!"

You disgust me.

And again, I remind you that since you made such a grand show of plonking me, you will not be replying to this.

She didn't use it to determine the proper course of medical treatment; her doctors did that. She only used it to make sure she wasn't being kept "alive" unnecessarily. She filled out the forms after asking her physician questions...but she was a smart woman who had been married to a surgeon, too.

Btw, huck, no offense meant, but this doesn't sound so smart to me, as you claimed your mother was, married to a surgeon and all. What is smart about giving up choices and rights in healthcare, especially when you are seriously ill?

You are saying here that she gave up her right to deternmine her own treatment, simply filling out a form giving that right to her physicians to make choices for her.

I just hope this was not the issue that caused you to label her as a smart woman in this post. There is nothing smart about giving away your choices at random to the physician who happens to be caring for you that day. Have you seen the recent study which showed that doctors make choices for their patients based on their own bias about what they would want in the shoes of the patient, and not based on what is a good choice for the patient or even on what the patient has stated they want?
The study just came out a few months ago and was overwhelmingly clear on this. Which leads me to believe that your mother, in giving away her choices, was treated according to the choices of the doctor of the day.

Or maybe she was a smart woman in your eyes because she gave up her choices and therefore caused you no grief about her choice of allowing death at the earliest opportunity?

Again I don't mean to be offensive here, but after all you do seem to be in the camp of those who believe the elderly, etc, have a "responsibility" to die when they either become a burden or their healthcare costs begin to get annoying.

I look forward to your response.

CP? I guess you mean compassion and trust me I've said this several times. Everything i've said, I said with compassion. I don't wish evil things on this woman, I truly wish she would get up and walk away. But I think this womans mind is fried beyond help, but It would be wonderful to be proven wrong.

So many have missed what you have pinpointed, that Hospice was traditionally for terminally ill patients, but with the advent of sticking severely disabled people in them then starving them to death, Hospice will become far more profitable with the increase in their death business!

According to the opinions that I read it is against the law in Florida to withhold fluids and food from a disabled person. Strela, you can easily verify this by reading the opinions as the statutes are clearly displayed in them. IF this is against the law, hasn't this judge usurped the law by ordering this to be done? Isn't this legislating fro the bench?

But the Schindlers' attorneys aren't arguing in terms of Terri's constitutional rights, but in terms of how there's some legal mumbo-jumbo that will let them revoke Michael Schiavo's guardianship--which is not the case. That's why I'm getting suspicious of the motives of the attorneys.

I've wondered a bit about this too. People talk about how M. Schiavo has loads of money from the malpractice lawsuits, yet Terri's parents state on the website that most of it is gone, having been used to pay for Terri's care.

"The video I saw showed a woman who had serious problems and the only movement or sign's of life I saw was her semi-smiling-laughing at a cartoon."

Ooooh!

Then by all means, we must kill her!

but I believe there were different DNR conditions involved.

You need to do a referesher course on DNR orders, friend. They are all the same and state only one thing. Do Not Rescucitate.

The issue which comes into play here is the fact that there are hundreds of ways to consider "rescucitate" in the order. Most non-medical people are thinking of the code they saw on ER watching tv, and you can be sure a person with a DNR is not going to be coded.

After that, though, it is highly subjective per the doc doing the answering of questions at the time, usually on the phone at night, perhaps on-call for his buddy and definitely tired and facing a long day and early morning.

Even though we're on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as what we think is the solution for her, we both (believe it or not) want what's best for this woman. She truly does need to be in both of our prayers regardless of which way the decision goes.

He can, but he won't. Not until he grows a spine.

This isn't Jeb Bush's fault if it is against Florida law for him to intervene.

Yes it is legislating FROM the bend PleaseNoMore!! Florida CORRUPT COURTS seem to be KNOWN for doing this! Here is the law

Article 1, Section 2 of the Florida State Constitution:

Basic rights.-- All natural persons, female and male alike, are equal before the law and have inalienable rights, among which are the right to enjoy and defend life and liberty, to pursue happiness, to be rewarded for industry, and to acquire, possess and protect property; except that the ownership, inheritance, disposition and possession of real property by aliens ineligible for citizenship may be regulated or prohibited by law. No person shall be deprived of any right because of race, religion, national origin, or physical disability.

Then how do you EXPLAIN THIS???

Article 1, Section 2 of the Florida State Constitution: Basic rights.-- All natural persons, female and male alike, are equal before the law and have inalienable rights, among which are the right to enjoy and defend life and liberty, to pursue happiness, to be rewarded for industry, and to acquire, possess and protect property; except that the ownership, inheritance, disposition and possession of real property by aliens ineligible for citizenship may be regulated or prohibited by law. THIS WAS VIOLATED in JUDGE "GREEDYS" RULING!! Who is responsible to hold JUDGE GREEDY responsible?? THE GOVERNOR!!!!

Well then, since it is against the law and since the judge has ordered it anyway, why in the heck can't Jeb step in? Does the law of guardianship overrule the law guaranteeing the right to nourishment for the disabled? BTW, there is a law that directly deals with withholding nourishment from the disabled. It is in the opinion from the Thomas Moore Law Center, I believe.

You offered, "Terri's parents state on the website that most of it is gone, having been used to pay for Terri's care." That is false. Of the $750,000 placed in a trust fund designated for Terri's rehabilitation therapy, not one cent has been used for her therapy because Michael Schiavo has forbidden therapy to her as soon as he recieved the proceeds from the malpractice lawsuit. Of the $750,000 in that rehab fund, most has been written to Geroge Felos, business associate of Gerge Greer, judge ruling that it is permissible to execute Terri via stravation/dehydration. The 'judge' allowed Michael to raid Terri's funds in a secret ruling that designated Felos to receive the monies in his efforts to have Terri 'put down'. Felos and Greer are connected through Pinellas county business/development interests and Felos was prominent on the board of directors of the Hospice into which Michael was permitted to place Terri and that be paid for through federal funds, thus making her plight a federally connected issue.

Why can't that case be bumped up to the Florida Supreme Court, with the Governor's office filing the suit?

No, they are not all the same, though I imagine they are similar. And they don't just state one thing. The issue which comes into play here is the fact that there are hundreds of ways to consider "rescucitate" in the order. Most non-medical people are thinking of the code they saw on ER watching tv, and you can be sure a person with a DNR is not going to be coded.

There are not hundreds. Look at the link strela provided. in the Texas DNR order, there are maybe five or six.

Your sarcastic remark show's your compassion for this woman and I salute your fortitude. However your anger is misguided because the things I said are simply my personal beliefs of what I think my wife or I would want in a similar situation. I have not changed my feelings in this, but I do admit that there is alot more to this story than I realized when I first started posting on this issue. Again I hope i'm proven wrong and she is saved and brought back to the land of the living and moving. But I have my doubts, good luck.
