Attack on Americans Should Doom Palestinian Terrorists
The Detroit News ^ | October 16, 2003 | Staff Editorial

The three-year conflict between Israel and the Palestinians had previously killed 49 Americans, most with dual citizenship, and all in random attacks. Wednesday's bombing that killed three U.S. diplomats in Gaza was the first time Americans were intentionally targeted.

Until now, the most notable American death was that of Rachel Corrie, an activist killed March 16 when she placed herself in front of an Israeli bulldozer destroying the home of a terrorist in Gaza.

Arafat better not be feeling too comfortable right about now. It might not happen in the next few days, but there will be retribution for this and it won't be pretty.

"Meantime, our "arch-friend" the Chinese are spending their billions to colonize the planets..."

"colonize the planets"....?????

Besides the obvious absurdity - why should we care if they all fly off to Mars ?

Rather chilling.

50% of the Palestinian kids between 6 and 11 dream of becoming suicide bombers. Considering the contrasting birth rates between Jewish and Palestinian families, Israel appears to be in a long-term no-win situation. True, Israel does have at least 130 nuclear weapons -- but of what value can that be against a few million youth who want you dead more than they want to live? (although the destruction of Mecca might demoralize 'em, if it didn't provoke them to increased paroxysms of insane rage...)

Who knows; we may live to see two anti-Christian cults, Islam and Judaism, in smoking ruins. Not something to cheer, true, but now might be a good time to think about how to rebuild on the ruins.

In 1945, Douglas MacArthur asked for 10,000 Chrisitan missionaries to help restructure the Japanese nation. The missionaries who showed up, alas, for the most part, were evangelists of materialism. We did a little better after the fall of the soviet empire. My denomination has planted several churches "over there." These folks are digging in for the decades-long task of rebuilding a civil civil order.

Will we be ready for the challenges of a post-Islam world?

Judaism is an anti-Christian cult? You're demented, Smedley.

You don't understand.

A cult is any other religion than your own.

Attacking diplomats ANYWHERE on the planet is an act of war. Let's treat it like that.

Pity Jimmy Carter didn't in Nov. '79.

They are murderous thugs who must be dealt with before any further steps are taken in the peace process.

Correct!

Did you hear Col Hunt on FOX this morning saying that the US should let the Israeli's take the gloves off?

I agree with COL Hunt.

That sure is an interesting video. Palestinian children WERE reported stoning the American rescue workers and investigators who came in to get the victims out yesterday.

I've always felt that every funeral held by the palestinians should be visited by a squadron of F15s dropping napalm. I never NEVER for one F'ing minute understood the malfiesance (sp) of the Senate the day Clinton brought Arafat into the White House. There should have been a complete shutdown of our government that day in protest. Every man and women in the State Department should have walked off the job. The FBI should have walked into the Oval Office and arrested that Son of a Bitch that second charging him with the multiple murder of American citizens.

Sad to see the terrorists making their son's and daughters into such total fighters from birth, and we, their targets, are taught from childhood to avoid violence at any cost. We can't even point a finger playing cops and robbers without being removed from school. A definite recipe for the end of American civilization.

Wednesday's outrage should result in the United States disengaging from the Palestinian territories, suspending financial aid for the Palestinian Authority and offering Israel all the assistance and encouragement it needs to root out and destroy the terrorists.

I agree with the first two, except that I wouldn't "suspend" aid to the PA; we shouldn't have been doing that in the first place. So it should be ended, period.

Otherwise we should stay out of this centuries-old fight. We would have a lot less trouble in this world if we learned to mind our own business.

I have to respectfully disagree with you.

The Israelis are our allies. After WWII, the world said never again. If we leave the Israelis side, not only will we violate our partnership with them, financially they will be unable to remain strong militarily and the Arabs may well succeed in their desire to kill off the Jewish population in Israel. We also have a strategic interest in the Arab countries. We absolutely need their oil. So we do this delicate, and not so delicate, dance.

In a lot of ways I have to feel for the Palestinian people. There is a group who have consistently had their leaders make the most absurdly self-destructive decisions, the silliest alliances, the stupidest acts of violence, and the most infuriatingly clumsy PR of any major group of the last century.

They're stuck now. They've become the focal point for every bearded, 7th-century fantasist with an AK, in a part of the world where that's the number one cash crop. They can have no peace even if they want it because it threatens the power of too many other little groups, any one of which can derail the peace process by precisely the means used yesterday. And they do not control these groups, the groups control them. In short, they're screwed.

They've also become the focal point for an entire martial mythos that is similar in action to the Nazis dragging down the entire population of Germany as an effect of their own martial culture. Only in this case the drum-beaters are not restricted to an internal group, and are much harder to excise. It is as if the Nazis were watching from a safe distance while the German population was immiserated, cheering them on but not sharing the misery. Were the entire population of Palestine destroyed the drum-beaters would still be there screaming "death to Israel, death to the U.S." and looking for another battlefield not their own.

Their putative military allies are not their friends. For one thing, each of them has his own agenda, usually centering around consolidation and maintenance of political power by providing an external enemy - Israel, and by extension the United States. For another, none of them is willing to allow the Palestinians to emigrate to their own country, dooming them to permanent refugee status in a cauldron of violence. Those are not the activities of friends.

And to make matters worse, they've bought into the whole martial, death-to-Israel thing as a form of their own identity, which puts them in the position of someone living in poverty and misery looking through the window at plenty and deciding that the plenty must be destroyed. Surrounded by allies that will buy them bullets and bombs but not medicine and jobs, by their only real hope for prosperity which they're rejecting with both hands, by an international community that offers them only self-righteous, sanctimonious lip service, and kept from rapprochement with their best hope of real help, the U.S., by a whole cast of characters who would rather see them dead than the U.S. successful in anything, they're in a situation that approaches in hopelessness the ones occupied by the suffering people in North Korea and just vacated by the people of Iraq.

Pumping oil though a couple feet of glass wouldn't be difficult.

If that's your stupid view of Judaism, and you can't distinguish between good and bad than I am not surprised you are looking for work. I would be surprised if you were employed
