You'll never look at baseball the same way. I used to look forward every year to the annual edition of the Bill James Baseball Abstract.James, because he always looked at the actual data, knew 100x more than your typical cliche-spouting sportswriters and broadcasters. Plus he did more than anyone else to popularize the notion that the key to winning is getting on base (on-base average) and moving runners along (slugging average), not batting average.
What was Stephen King doing? Rattling goat bones in his cap?
