Ron DeSantis’s Copycat Strategy Is Failing
The Nation ^ | May 26, 2023 | Jeet Heer

Ron DeSantis’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination was already faltering even before he formally entered the fray on Wednesday in a much-touted launch on Twitter Spaces. As The New York Times noted, DeSantis “has struggled in recent polling, receiving an average across polls of around 20 percent among Republicans, falling far short of former President Donald J. Trump’s roughly 50 percent. The gap between the two men has grown steadily over the past few months, as Mr. Trump’s share has increased and Mr. DeSantis has lost ground.”

Unfortunately for DeSantis, his decision to take up Elon Musk’s suggestion of a Twitter launch meant the event was marred by numerous technical glitches and has already entered the annals of political lore as a stupendous bungle. Politico characterized it as a “botched rollout” that could undermine “the very argument he is making to Republican primary voters—that he is a competent alternative to the chaotic presidency of former President Donald Trump.” My colleague Joan Walsh described it as a “fiasco.” The New York Times called it a “meltdown.”

Far from helping him against Trump, DeSantis’s tech mishap seems to have energized the former president. Trump’s campaign quickly fired off gleefully derisive videos mocking the Twitter Spaces disaster, including one showing an imploding rocket labeled “Ron! 2024.” The exclamation mark was an allusion to Jeb Bush’s failed campaign of 2016 (marketed as “Jeb!”), while the rocket was a cruel invocation of a recent Musk space vehicle debacle. Another nasty Trump video had DeSantis sharing Twitter Spaces with a host of villains ranging from Dick Cheney to Adolf Hitler to the devil.

“He’s probably a decent guy, but not someone who’ll knock the socks off of voters with his magical charisma.”

DeSantis doesn’t have the high level of negatives that Trump has. I know several female Republicans who absolutely despise Trump and refuse to vote for him because of Trump’s demeaning manner of talking about women and to women. Trump needlessly makes enemies and he can ill afford to do that if he wants to be elected again in 2024. But I don’t expect Trump to ever change. So I will vote for DeSantis in the Tennessee Republican primary (if he is still running that is), but would definitely vote for Trump again in the 2024 election.

If these women still “hate Trump” after this 2+ year $#1t$#0w, then the all deserve to receive awards for their dedication to stupidity.

“DeSantis doesn’t have the high level of negatives that Trump has.”

That’s because he has no personality. He’s plain vanilla. Seems he has no core values. Example: His first statement in Ukraine vs Russia was good. Then his handlers freaked out because it was identical to Trump’s. So RD had to change a week later.

“I know several female Republicans who absolutely despise Trump and refuse to vote for him because of Trump’s demeaning manner of talking about women and to women.”

SO WHAT IF HE DOES?!? The Karens getting their little lacey panties in a twist is more important than saving America? I don’t understand those shallow people, and I don’t know those women.

Karen prefers $7 gas; an invasion of illegals who steal from Americans’ kids’ futures and education; and our youth being killed and permanently disabled in foreign lands to help countries who despise us? Those fragile flowers disgust me!! If they’re THAT STUPID, then they need to relocate to a different country and NEVER VOTE here.

Women I know who despise Trump hate him because they’re libs, and because the MSM has told them to hate him.

“Trump needlessly makes enemies and he can ill afford to do that if he wants to be elected again in 2024.”

He does say things that create enemies when they should be allies. Example: The one-sentence statement about McCain. Huge mistake. But personally disliking him shouldn’t distract from the fact that he’s the ONLY one who can (and did) give America a wonderful economy, secure our borders, and keep us out of wars.

If people get all pissy and decide to hate Trump more than they love America, well...

“But I don’t expect Trump to ever change.”

True.

“So I will vote for DeSantis in the Tennessee Republican primary.”

Again, hating Trump more than loving America and wanting to save it,is definitely a choice. This isn’t a Prom King situation; it’s literally life and death.

No, it’s because he hasn’t been their main target (the president) yet. They would treat DeSantis the exact same way if he were to win the election (by some miracle). Has nothing to do with “personality”. The left hates anyone NOT on the left.

“SO WHAT IF HE DOES?!? The Karens getting their little lacey panties in a twist is more important than saving America? I don’t understand those shallow people, and I don’t know those women.”

The Karens are deluded morons who listen to and mimic their male counterparts in their families. They can’t “think” for themselves. And they all hate Trump because he’s not a fellow leftist moron that cares more about wokeism, appearances and feelings... than the survival of America AS FOUNDED.

“If people get all pissy and decide to hate Trump more than they love America, well...”

People have gotten all pissy and decided to hate Trump because they’re too stupid to figure out that the Marxist left seeks our total destruction....and they are winning this war we’ve been in for decades.

How stupid would you have to be, by now, to not know that their real enemy is the Democrat Party now? REAL stupid. But if America falls, the history books, if allowed to be accurate, would say it was due to rampant and systemic “stupidity” of the people allowed to vote.

And don’t look now, but....the Marxist Democrats are allowing millions of ‘more stupid voters’ to flood across our border. It will be a toss-up as to which happens first. The total collapse of our economy, Cloward-Piven style...or the elimination of the need for Democrats to ever again commit election fraud once they give blanket amnesty to millions more stupid voters.

“RD’s connection to the Klaus Schwab cabal is undeniable and it’s sinking his presidential campaign and any chance of beating Trump. The only chance DeSantis has is if President Trump gets jailed, killed or drops out.”

Undeniable how? By what proof, evidence or standards? I have yet to see any such connection. But I do know that the left has a vested interest in casting RD as a globalist stooge in their “divide and conquer” ssdd usual tactics.

A campaign is more than a single speech or campaign event, friends.

“Do you know of any media today which is for MAGA?”

Newsmax? OANN? On very rare occasions, even with Tucker gone, Faux Neus?

Just because the lamestream media is all Pravda style now, is no reason to post articles from their bilge sources presented as truth or factual. Their articles should be posted to illustrate their ongoing lies only, IMO.

“For people wondering why he didn’t stick with his initial anti-WW3 position, I suspect that it was because he matched Trump’s position on Ukraine, and therefore LEGITIMATIZED Trump’s position - and thus posed a REAL THREAT to the Neocon Project of getting World War 3 started, so they had to get DeSantis on line, at least for that issue. (think about it, how do you keep the money and weapons flowing to Ukraine when both top Republicans are against it?)”

Doesn’t look like he changed his stance to me. Just sounds like his comments were “translated” into a more pro-leftist stance, per usual. Remember, it’s the Democrats and RINOs that wanted the Ukraine “war” money laundering scheme.

Desantis’ actual comments:

“I just don’t think that’s a sufficient interest for us to escalate more involvement. I would not want to see American troops involved there. But the idea that I think somehow Russia was justified [in invading] – that’s nonsense.”

Don Moynihan, a Georgetown policy professor, said DeSantis’s “walk-back of his Ukraine comments seems less clarifying than confusing. He is critical of Biden but it is not clear how his position on Ukraine is different: Putin is a war criminal who should not have invaded, no US troops.”

DeSantis also told Fox Nation Ukrainians “have the right to that territory”, adding: “If I could snap my fingers, I’d give it back to Ukraine 100%.

“But the reality is what is America’s involvement in terms of escalating with more weapons, and certainly ground troops I think would be a mistake. So, that was the point I was trying to make but Russia was wrong to invade. They were wrong to take Crimea.”

That’s a very good question.
