The leader of the New York arm of the Black Lives Matter movement is calling out New York gubernatorial candidate and actress/activist Cynthia Nixon for her comments on legalizing marijuana over the weekend, in which she said that the industry could provide a form of reparations for communities of color.
While he supports cannabis legalization, Black Lives Matter of Greater New York president Hawk Newsome told the Times Union on Monday that candidates for office should not use words like reparations lightly, a topic on which there is a growing body of serious scholarship.
Cynthia Nixons comments that the legalization of marijuana would serve as reparations for the African-American community are offensive and ignorant, Newsome said in a statement.
When asked to explain his objection, Newsome told the Times Union, There are groups across the world still fighting for reparations, this has been before the [United Nations]. It is not a word we can manipulate the meaning of. You cant appropriate the word unless you are talking about it in a very specific way.
Nixon has made legalization marijuana central to her campaign, calling it a racial justice issue and citing studies that show that people of color are disproportionately targeted by police for possession of marijuana despite similar usage rates by whites....

All the liberal astro turf craps seems to have ended with the Iran deal crashing and burning. I wonder if there’s a connection.
It should go without saying that slavery was the worst thing that ever happened to our country. We should now bite the bullet and repatriate all those ancestors of people taken from their ancestral homeland at taxpayer expense. All African-Americans should be returned From whence they were taken. They are obvioulsy very unhappy living in these United States and we have a moral obligation to do the right thing.
Yes, this will cost us a pretty penny but there is an upside. Welfare costs should go down considerably, as well as crime and prison costs. Affirmative action will be unneeded as we will return to a merit based system in employment, educational admissions and other aspects of American life.
There will no longer be black millionaire athletes kneeling when our flag or national anthem is displayed. The culture will be enhanced without the gangsta crap we read about. There will no longer be two sets of rules to try to decipher, one for blacks and the other for evrybody else
Yes, we should take the plung and pay the price for bringing these unfortunates here in the first place.
Lincoln had a plan to repatriate them all to Monrovia Liberia, but it was shot down by US Congress before he was assassinated.
Here’s some articles on it:
Yes. The idea is not new!
It would have been a very wise move to have done it, back then. They could have made good contributions to developing that part of the world. Zero possibility of it ever happening now.
Good luck collecting from Spain or England...lol. I still wonder when the Blacks will start looking at their own ancestral tribes and how other tribes sold them to the world will demand reparations from those tribes.
While we're at it, where are the Native Americans demanding reparations from different tribes who enslaved them? And what about the Jews who were enslaved and mass murdered demanding reparations from Germany? Roman enslavement of the known world? Sheesh.
Until the US fought an awful bloody civil war, slavery was still the norm throughout the world. They can all just say, Thank You, and STFU.
