President Trump, home alone, puts out the White House welcome mat
CNN Politics ^ | January 24, 2017 | By Jeff Zeleny, Senior White House Correspondent

President Donald Trump is home alone, so suddenly one of the hottest new tickets in town is an invitation to the White House.

The President is going to start hitting the Washington dinner party circuit. In most cases, actually, his guests will come to him as he tries building bridges in a city that he has spent years railing against.

"It's very good -- a beautiful relationship," said Trump, all smiles Monday as he hosted congressional leaders at the White House for his first round of evening visitors. A piano played Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind," as the President mingled with top Republicans and Democrats, all of whom are feeling their way in Trump's new Washington....

Education. You have to watch the video. Full one at youtube.use signing ceremony search term.

Keep in mind how DC operates...and you will understand it was a slap to trump. Maybe ryan didnt think we would be seeing the full video. I havent seen many pick up on what happened..which is kind of surprising.its not in the media so far

Perhaps it’s not a big media deal because it sounds as absurd as the Court of St. James in Elizabethan England. I hope we haven’t sunk to that level yet.

DC has its own traditions. This is one. Its a big deal...it wasnt to trump..he didnt even care if he got a pen...like the very first one he used as potus. Ryan pointed out that pen...he didnt care. Pence had to make sure he got a pen.

But...put it in perspective...trump will get that ryan insulted him and the pick. I think he got it at the time given his reaction

A piano played Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind,"

Maybe the piano was playing a saxophone?

Btw, Schumer insulted Carson MULTIPLE times about his pen . I felt bad for Carson.

To those that think the pen signing thing is no big deal..you just don’t get that some of the smallest things can have a big consequence in DC.

Ask yourself why Ryan picked up and put down that Secretary of Education pen multiple times..and then flung it away at the end. These are highly valued pens that are given away as gifts to people. He didn’t fling that pen by accident.

I did watch. I don’t see what everyone is talking about.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaxwZMYcTmU

AT around the 5:10 mark, Paul Ryan gets the pen for the Education post. ARound 6:30 he puts it on the table.

The video ends around 8:30.

What does Ryan do, that is snarky or disrespectful.

Trump is like a lion in a room full of hyenas and jackels. He’s like the Lion King who took over the job from the Boy King.

I told you that you have to watch the FULL video. You didn’t watch the ENTIRE ceremony.

Scroll to the end of the ceremony. See if you pick up on it.

Trump did. Watch how he looks at the pen.

Remember these are pens that are valued. They are given as gifts . Pens used by POTUS.

I just watched again. I am POSITIVE he winked at someone when he put that pen back by the folder.

I hope Trump watches and catches that wink.

Ryan acted all magnanimous about the pen . Just an example of his two faced persona who can't be trusted.

Oh come on you guys. He shakes Ryan arm at the end with BOTH hands, pats him too. Ryan simply didn’t want a pen. Big deal. No see the slight. Trump picked it up and gave it to someone else.

I think every person in that room knows that they’re not dealing with some sucker. Trump is smarter than probably any president we’ve had in office in a long time.

I love the banter. Very funny.

Likeable. He will win them over with kindness.

Yep he didn’t want the pen. He winked at someone when he put it back.

You are entitled to your opinion as to what that means about pens that are highly valued and given as gifts to people.

Oh, and it is not just DC that values signing pens.

http://mix108.com/why-do-politicians-use-several-pens-when-signing-important-documents-video/

But yeah sure...it means nothing that Ryan didn’t want a signing pen and winked when he put it back.

I don’t recall Ryan doing anything over a pen. I do recall Pelosi acting like a fool over several pens!

Btw, the first pens that POTUS used are so highly valued that Schumer and Pelosi wanted them even if it means someone they didn’t like.

yet, there goes Ryan...winking while he put back an historical pen.

sure..it means nothing /s

He winked at someone as he put it back because he didn’t want it. It is an historical pen. Why would you not want it?

Watch the entire ceremony..not just a clip of it.

Yeah, Trump didn’t understand the value of the pens. He is an outsider. But the politicians did understand it.

Maybe he realized the stupid brewhaha happening and didn’t want to be in the middle of it.

Fully realized he will have plenty of opportunity later at likely much more important signings to ‘get a pen.’
