When Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz came to the Bronx to campaign in the run-up to the New York primary, ridicule was not far away. After all, what is a Republican candidate doing in the staunchly Democratic, minority-majority northern part of New York City? What is he doing in New York State at all, when Donald Trump is nearly certain to carry the most votes and, according to market-based forecasts, has an 85 percent chance to win more than 50 percent of the vote?
Why would Ted Cruz campaign in the Bronx?
For someone like Cruz to campaign exactly where Republicans are least popular is actually a very reasonable strategy. Thats because 81 of 95 delegates are allocated equally between the 27 congressional districts. While congressional districts are drawn by population size, the number of registered Republicans per district varies widely in New York.
As a consequence, some congressional districts will have their three delegates decided by just a few hundred voters....

So who becomes the nominee?
Cruz
Great. So you're rooting for the destruction of the GOP basically for spite.
This is the kind of attitude that will guarantee that Cruz isn't the nominee.
You Ted Cruz fanboys are really shortsighted, and so is your candidate, but reality will come crashing in very soon.
Ted Cruz is in third place tonight, and the same will be true in the upcoming Northeast states. That's not a candidate with any momentum or potential.
I wish him well.
He’ll need a LOT of help from all of us if he gets the nomination.
Its not complicated.
Kasich is popular in the northeast because he is more liberal.
Trump is more popular in the Northeast because he is more liberal.
Trump will not win New York in a general election. Kasich will not either.
Cruz can seek the support of delegates within the state conventions of all of these places— and yes that is fully legal, legitimate and ethical.
The fact that these states are so liberal does not mean the states should not be able to sway to the RNC toward a conservative candidate.
AS far as I can tell, Trump does not dislike either Clinton or Sanders as much as he deeply hates Ted Cruz.
Ted Cruz has been called a communist here at FR and is regularly compared to Kim Jong Un— a deadly dictator who kills hundreds with impunity.
I honestly have not seen any Democrat or liberal vilified on Free Republic the way Ted Cruz has been attacked.
I won’t back down.
You can be absolutely sure of that.
Mock until your cisterns of cynicism run dry.
My well overflows.
I guess Donald Trump was rather popular in the "liberal" SOUTH as well, which he virtually swept?
Get back with us when you can employ actual logic...
Your rationale does not hold up in most states won by Cruz, with Trump winning in the conservative, less urban or rural counties and Cruz winning in the more liberal, urban counties.
Why is that?
How many millions of votes is Trump ahead of sCruz? How many hundreds of delegates is Trump ahead of sCruz?
HaHaHa.
And Kasich was a genius for teaching orthodox Jews about Passover.
Depends, in places where people actually get to vote or not?
I’m not voting for Bernie.
I am a liberal southerner!
Busted.
Trump was helped tremendously in the South by Rubio dividing the Southern bloc of voters along with other RNC contenders.
I don’t think he could win those same states today.
When voters are asked to identify, Cruz does best with very conservative voters in pretty much every state.
When you look geographically as you have asked, then you find less educated voters in rural areas that are also conservative.
I am not trying to insult anyone. The less educated voters vote for trump and they live in rural areas.
That does not change the polling about self identification that shows who very conservative voters are choosing apart from education or economic position.
I don't know if Trump will make it to 1237 or not but nobody else will come close to it,
In my opinion if Trump or Cruz aren't the nominee I ain't voting this year.
I really think that Trump is a pretty smart guy and despite the millions or perhaps hundreds of millions spent to stop him he will likely get to the magic number.
Donald Trump won Florida with a greater total than Rubio (Senator from FLORIDA) and Ted Cruz combined.
OK, so you're delusional. Got it.
Vote Trump
I think Trump may make it to 1237
I do think Cruz or Trump should get the nomination.
I personally want Cruz to win because I think he is more conservative and I also trust him to be conservative more than Trump.
I think Trump has epiphanies every day.
Cruz has confronted the establishment and over come long odds when the Texas establishment selected Dewhurst to be the GOPE appointed senator.
Cruz can pull it off.
So, you’re calling practically every Republican in South Carolina stupid, then? How about Ohio? Virginia, you believe all the intelligent Republicans reside in the DC Metro, lol?
You’re tying yourself in knots trying to rationalize favorably for Cruz and unfavorably for Trump, do you realize that?
