Forget Trump but Not the Trumpsters
National Review ^ | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 02/02/2016 11:52:22 AM PST by Truthsearcher

...Forget Trump and consider instead Trump’s constituencies. They are weary of being lectured that they deserve presidential rebuke for their supposed Islamophobia because they are angry about the terrorist killings of Americans. The middle classes are exhausted from being sermonized that they do not “pay their fair share,” when their state and federal tax bite is nearly 50 percent — especially when half the population pays no income tax, and massive federal entitlements have done little to address the pathologies of the underclasses. The contractor and the insurance salesman are furious at being scolded that “they didn’t build” their businesses, when those doing the scolding are pampered elites like Elizabeth Warren and Barack Obama, who never built anything other than grievance careers...

...Trump has done the Republican party lots of damage, but he has also done it some good by reminding its leaders that victory lies in swinging a ball and chain through the flimsy glass mirror of political correctness and the current liberal spectacle of very wealthy people projecting race and class injustice onto others as a way of excusing their own privilege.

Far better than ridiculing Trump as a showboat would be to show more constructive passion than does Trump and to discover what makes sane citizens see him as their last resort. Rather than dismissing his empty populism, it would be wiser to fill it in.

Respect and listen to and learn from Trump voters — and they will not vote for Trump.

Trump has to show his analytical, tough but reasonably polite side and explain why populism is conservative and most who call themselves conservative are not. His macho bona fides already onvthe record.

I read the article, and I'm a Trump supporter. I'm also a fan, if you will, of VDH. I do not speak for all supporters, just moi.

I smile when I see the woulda/coulda/shouldas. Had Trump not entered the race, I think it's just as likely Jeb would have won Iowa

I said at the start I wanted to see the primary process because it would reveal the true nature of the candidates. I didn't expect the process would reveal itself for being the dumpster fire it is.

I knew the GOPee despised me and the RATs consider me a beast of burden. Little did I realize that was just the surface of the disease.

I'm done with the GOPee. VDH can type all he wants about how they need to understand Trump supporters. If they were willing to toss Tea Parties overboard, why would they hesitate to shun Trumpsters?

I'd reached a point where I was determined to go third party. I didn't because of Trump.

I believe the immediate obstacle to accomplishing a conservative agenda is the Uniparty, most especially the GOPee side. They're too d@mn clever for their own good.

The RATs are shedding members from their right flank. The GOPee seems determined to do the same.

I've read that America became the world leader of the latter part of the 20th century because of WW2...not just the battles and destruction, but because an entire generation of Americans saw the world. Once they saw Gay Paris, the saying goes, good luck keeping them on the farm.

Much in the same way, I'll never vote for a "republican" again. I support Trump, not the party.

Good luck with that, GOPee.

Heard VDH last weekend and he said that Donald was right in that Mexico could pay for the wall, which would cost $3-billion. Western Union transfers about $30-billion from the US in payments to people in Mexico every year. Put a 10% on US-Mexico money transfers, ergo—$3-billion for the wall.

Yes, it has been fairly disappointing. I fear that when the Great Deception arrives many of these folks will take the Mark of the Beast.

The fact is that you are a hell of a lot more impressed with Mr. Mouth than most conservatives are. National Review is not what it used to be but it was around a long time before ANYONE had ever heard of The Donald and will likely be around long after he is gone. The conservative movement is a permanent thing as he is not.

The Donald has managed to get the support of 91 year old Phyllis Schlafly who is nonetheless a Founding Mother of the movement. He has gotten the support of R. Emmett Tyrell, longtime editor of the American Spectator and Jeffrey Lord who has writen insightfully for that publication. OTOH, The Donald is supported by Ann Coulter who sullied her skirts permanently and exposed her early onset Alzheimer's by supporting the likes of Moral Monster Mitt Romney, and Krispy Kreme all the while still posing as though she were conservative.

Trump has time to turn his campaign around and address all those unaddressed by him substantive issues rather than giving us his irrelevant, low rent and vulgar opinions as to who is fat, who is ugly, who is stupid, who is a maniac and where blood may be coming out of Megyn Kelly.

Perhaps he might offer specific plans as to how he intends to balance the budget, reduce the accumulated $19 trillion deficit (conservatively calculated), end the ruinous trade deals, create an economy in which middle class folks can hope to earn a living with their hands, if necessary, rein in the Congresswhores of the GOP, get the federales OUT of Edjamakashun and a lot of other things, how he will go about selecting SCOTUS justices and other federal judges, what he will do to end the envirowhacko reign of terror at EPA, what he might do to return all that federally grabbed Western land to PRIVATE ownership, many other things and just what he means when he tells the public that he gets along really well with the likes of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Schmucky Chewmer and is just sure he can "make deals" with them. What kind of deals on what? What will he do to castrate the military power of the Iranians particularly but the Islamolunatics generally. It is a target rich environment out there and it is about time The Donald started homing in on such targets rather than insulting his opponents or having his love slaves do that for him.

Hold on there, brother, Andy Jackson and I were discussing the fact that many folks were making snap judgements based the National Review magazine attack on Trump, in which Victor David Hansen DID NOT participate. We actually read Hansen’s article and found it to be an excellent analysis of the situation regarding Trump and the Republican establishment.

We had not gotten into Ted Cruz as a potential Anti-Christ, but what an interesting point you make. What better way to move toward one-world government then to fool the American people into electing a natural-born Canadian as their President?

I am viewing Donald Trump as a type of Samson: Doesn’t drink, wild hair, chases women, will kill you and you friends if you treat him unfairly, really good a slaying with the jawbone of an Ass, and finally brings down the Temple of Dagon.

Actually, I think Trump will win, but the prospect of a Trump Presidency will cause the Russians and the Iranians to preemptively attack the US as part of their attack on Israel.

In Ezekiel 38, two distinct attacks are described. Biblical scholars have always taken them both to be about Israel, but only the second description specifically mentions Israel. The first is more general, and is hard to fit with the walled cities of current Israel. But it fits the United States pretty well.
10 “Thus says the Lord GOD: “On that day it shall come to pass that thoughts will arise in your mind,
and you will make an evil plan:
11 “You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages;
I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates’—
12 “to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are again inhabited,
and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land.
13 “Sheba, Dedan, the merchants of Tarshish, and all their young lions will say to you,
‘Have you come to take plunder? Have you gathered your army to take booty,
to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take great plunder?’ “

Nelson, Thomas (2009-02-18). Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV) (pp. 845-846). Thomas Nelson. Kindle Edition.

That pretty much describes a pre-Trump America. Particularly the part, “against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land.”

Then YHWH, through Ezekiel, continues:

14 “Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD:
“On that day when My people Israel dwell safely, will you not know it?
15 “Then you will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you,
all of them riding on horses, a great company and a mighty army.
16 “You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land.
It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me,
when I am hallowed in you, O Gog, before their eyes.”
17 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Are you he of whom I have spoken in former days by My servants the prophets of Israel,
who prophesied for years in those days that I would bring you against them?
18 “And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord GOD,
“that My fury will show in My face.
19 “For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken:
‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel,
20 ‘so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field,
all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth
shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall,
and every wall shall fall to the ground.’
21 “I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains,” says the Lord GOD.
“Every man’s sword will be against his brother.
22 “And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed;
I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain,
great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.
23 “Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations.
Then they shall know that I am the LORD.” ‘

Nelson, Thomas (2009-02-18). Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV) (p. 846). Thomas Nelson. Kindle Edition.

So, that is why I say to everyone: “Repent! The Kingdom of God is at hand!”

Romans 10
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”
(that is, the word of faith which we preach):
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

Nelson, Thomas (2009-02-18). Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV) (pp. 1100-1101). Thomas Nelson. Kindle Edition.

Well!

We shall have to elect Cruz without you then. You do realize that you are suggesting that you can elect The Donald without us, right? That was the JEB! party line for 2016 too. And Moral Monster Mitt Romney's approach in 2012.

Game on!

I’d just like to know how Ted Cruz is going to explain away his adherence to TPA and the ultimate destruction of American Sovereignty.Let him explain away his money men and their demands for open birders and cheap labor, destroying America’s economy even further. How is he going to explain how to stop the attacks on the Constitution when he himself is breaking the constitution’s rules? There’s lots more but you can start explaining his “positions” on these little items.

Before counting your chickens contemplate the rancor against the sell-out backstabbers who need to go the way of the Whigs.

Even Rubio is preferable to Hillary. Amnesty is bad. Amnesty, gun control and politically correct thought control are worse. Hillary is Stalin with a sex change.

I told you - don't count your chickens. The backstabbing sell-outs in GOPee need to go. If Hillary, or Bernie, is the cost of making that happen, well so be it.
