How many votes will Trump and Sanders need to win? Trump probably believes he already won in Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina and Nevada.

Cruz is a nasty liar.

Now Chuck Shumer, there's a guy that can be dealt with.

Trump gets 30+% of 160,000 votes in Iowa. Wonder how much it costs per vote?

“Cruz is a nasty liar.”

I have to admit that I am shocked by how easily he lies and blames others. It must be a first term Senator thing.

Well then its a good thing Schumer has had many terms. He’s gonna be an equal partner in a Trump administration.

Add to that the number of party-switchers who will also caucus Monday evening and the results could well be YUGE!

If I may question your numbers, the 120,000 caucus goers included party-switchers.

And, that year, the Dem candidate was uncontested -- while this year it will be hotly contested.

Consequently, there will likely be fewer cross-overs than in the past.

There are not 1 million plus registered Republicans in Iowa. Not even close.

Fair point. Though I suspect there will be significant party switchers this year, of the “Reagan/Trump Democrat” variety at least according to some polling information. (Rush has spoken of this group numerous times recently).

good lord man, you’re so far down in the bottom of the anti-Trump barrel you’re posting ridiculous hit pieces from the Daily Beast now?

still, i’ll have to say that i admire the ostrich-head-in-the-sand approach by the Daily Beast: close eyes, cover ears, and go “la-la-la-la-la-la-la” REALLY loudly. it sorta worked when we were kids, so it ought to sorta work now, hey?

You are right; sorry and thanks for the catch. Here are the corrected numbers:

Total Iowa Registered Republicans as of 1/14/16 = 612,112
- per Iowa Secretary of State website

(The 2012 total Republican caucus vote was 121,255).

These are the possible turnout scenarios for 2016:

If 120,000 turn out, that = 19.6% turnout

If 140,000 turn out, that = 22.8%

If 160,000 turn out, that = 26.1%

If 180,000 turn out, that = 29.4%

If 200,000 turn out, that = 32.6%

It is entirely possible that 160,000 will turn out this year, just a one-third increase over 2012, and still just 26.1% of total registered Republicans.

Add to that the number of party-switchers who will also caucus Monday evening and the results could well be YUGE!

I don't discount their existence, but I question whether they are motivated to change parties and caucus with strangers at this stage of the game.

There will be some cross-over, for sure, but it may not approach what some people expect.
