Glancing at the latest Real Clear Politics polling average for Iowa, you see Donald Trump has retaken the lead in The Hawkeye State, 27.8 percent to Ted Cruz's 26.7 percent.
Those results are certain to set off another wave of brash rhetoric and bold predictions from The Donald himself, but before he or his supporters get too excited, the bigger picture needs to be taken into account.
Ted Cruz supportersFor example, pollster Nate Silver's very reputable FiveThirtyEight group now gives Cruz a fairly sizeable chance to beat Trump in a little less than two weeks.
Kristen East of Politico reports, "Ted Cruz ha[s] the greatest chance of winning the Iowa caucuses two weeks from Monday, a new polling-based forecast from FiveThirtyEight shows...

Wishful thinking.
Trump has more that double Cruz’s numbers in the polls.
However, if you do not believe that then just compare the rallies.
Who has bigger numbers of people their rallies? Trump has thousands just about every event.
Cruz has one hundred to two hundred. It’s not even remotely close.
You want to REALLY see “petulant” and “untrustworthy”? Then you should read Ted’s TWEETS about Palin, BEFORE she even went to the rally and opened her mouth!
If you’re so sure of your candidate, why bust my chops about his superiority? You should just be sitting back, smug in the belief that Don Trump already has it in the bag. But you don’t, which makes me wonder just how confident you are about his ultimate victory.
Your ilk does FAR more of that.
Washington didn’t “fund raise”; he was anointed.
“The same is even more true, re Cruz supporters, and Cruz himself and all of the news that has lately come out about him and his parents.”
Trump has been all over the map through the years, politically (though he doesn’t seem to vote, except with his money to politicians). That is indisputable. Cruz has been a very close adherent to conservative values throughout his political career. I think the news you are referring to is just character assassination, for the sake of someone getting elected (or people getting their candidate elected).
The same could be said for YOU !
So what’s YOUR “excuse”?
The presidency wasn’t his first elective office by a longshot. Read a book.
It is only recently that Ted's masks have begun to fall. He isn't whom we were led to believe he was.
I was ONLY talking about the presidency; pet. I was very clear about that.
Post some recent Cruz rallies that were held in the last week.
I’m not your pet, degenerate.
My, aren’t you sensitive. That can happen when you support a Canadian.
They were in different locations judging by the split screen
One might recall Richard Nixon, who also had a less than solid track record as to conservative issues when he ran for president in 1968. He campaigned on a conservative platform as the champion of the "forgotten American," but once in office, he quickly moved leftward, embracing and expanding the Great Society, growing government at all levels, and starting such programs as OSHA, the EPA, and Affirmative Action. Nixon gave conservatives little to cheer about, yet there were conservatives, including Pat Buchanan, who defended him--and continue to do so.
If in 13 months President Trump starts to embrace and expand the Obama agenda as Nixon embraced the Great Society, how will his fanatic acolytes respond?
Cruz isn't "pandering" to the evangelicals. He is a God-fearing Christian himself, so his appeal to them is sincere.
Both Jimmy Carter in 1976 and Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984 benefited from their appeal to the evangelical vote.
Simply put, they will make excuses for him, as they do now, and put his critics or opposition down, as they do now, much as Nixon's minions unfortunately did.
Good observations.
I'm okay if you're not real conservative. But on what planet do you dare put the conservative-marquee member Cruz down (if only in your imagination) to raise the stock of an on-again/off-again conservative (and liberal) Trump? You're in for a big shock one of these days, and there won't be a lifeline.
Despite an occasional difference, for my part, we remain as such. My respect for him has not diminished.
Your comment about Stepford Wives and Zombies is a classic example of how not to debate, and why whoever your side represents is considered despicable.
Lakeshark,
If you were not doing what at first glance I thought you were, and what I’ve been observing more and more of lately, I apologize. Didn’t mean to rope you in on it.
Regarding respect, I don’t want it, ask for it, care for it, or post for it. I don’t care if I’m considered “despicable” either. Not on my radar. I see patterns and bring them to the forefront. I’ve been seeing more and more people act like cult members here, which turns me off big time.
