After I wrote about the twisted codependency of Donald Trump and the media a few weeks back, some readers got in touch to complain that the attention paid to Trump had all but obscured the rise of Bernie Sanders. In an interview with CNN that week, Sanders himself made the same point, referring to a report that claimed network news shows had devoted 234 minutes to Trump and only 10 to his campaign. (Yes, 10 - for the entire year.)
Judging from what's happening right now in Iowa and New Hampshire, Sanders and his avid supporters have a legitimate point.
Just as the Democratic primaries were the dominant story in the 2008 cycle, so has the Republican train wreck proved to be the most compelling storyline this year. But with less than three weeks to go before the voting starts, Sanders may be just as plausible a nominee as Trump.
A New York Times/CBS News poll this week showed Sanders, who trailed Hillary Clinton among Democrats by 20 points a month ago, closing that gap to 7. But national polls are essentially meaningless; what's more impressive are polls that have Sanders overtaking Clinton in Iowa and opening up a double-digit lead in New Hampshire....

PLEASE nominate him!
“Time To Take Sanders Seriously”
Nah.
Time to take neurotic, adolescent, junior-high-school,
holier-than-thou, self-appointed Progressive geniuses
seriously.
IMHO
Ok, his only segment of appeal is leftists and dumb college students.
Seriously.
If he looks to win the Dem primary, I’ll become 100% neutral on the GOP primary....short of Jeb (seriously I’m not that crazy).
Anyone can beat Bernie.
To be fair, what has Bern said that hasn’t been said dozens of times before by his fellow travelers?
After 50+ years, it’s not exactly news that commies are commies.
Bernie will make McGovern look like a smashing success.
Because socialism has worked so well every where it has been tried.
I was always taking him seriously as a potential Democrat nominee. He’s got much more appeal than Hillary to that sort of voter.
Do not be too sure of the “anybody”.
Bernie comes into serious contention mainly because the media is already predisposed to the very things he is advocating, and they would not be critical of an “old guy”, because that would be “Ageism”, a new category of victim only recently discovered.
Nobody, but nobody, can ever hope to outpromise Bernie on how much can be raided from what remains of the US Treasury.
Even after several sacks of the city, Rome was still a valuable target of the Gothic raiders.
The great thing about Bernies followers... Stoners dont vote.
“Ok, his only segment of appeal is leftists and dumb college students. Seriously.”
Bernie Sanders was elected 4 times as mayor of Vermont’s largest city. In a November 2015 Morning Consult poll, Sanders had an approval rating of 83% among his constituents, making him the most popular US senator in the country.
Bernie is a very talented and experienced political leftist. If he isn’t taken seriously, he might wind up winning.
I read that Bloomberg is thinking of entering as a Dem or independent.
And Fauxcahontas (Elizabeth Warren) for VP!
Bernie is an avowed Socialist, just like the Democrat activists. They should nominate him because he represents their grass roots.
Similarly, Cruz is a conservative, just like republican activists. We should nominate him because he represents the grass roots.
Let’s clarify forever whether America is socialist or conservative.
Sanders v. CRUZ!
If something happens to Sanders, you know where it came from....
“Because socialism has worked so well every where it has been tried.”
Socialism sucks, but socialists do nevertheless sometimes get elected.
