McCain: Trump too divisive, `I don't think he could win'
The Boston Herald ^ | September 12, 2015 | Chris Villani

Posted on 09/12/2015 12:55:01 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump will never win the White House because he is playing to aging white voters and turning off blacks and Hispanics, U.S. Sen. John McCain said.

“I don’t think he could win the White House because we have to attract voters,” McCain said on Herald Radio’s “Morning Meeting” show yesterday. “We have an aging white population in America and a growing Hispanic and African-American population and we have to reach out to them.”

McCain said the Hispanic vote, particularly in a border state such as his home state of Arizona, is especially important.

“The Hispanic voter in my state is pro-life, pro-small business, (for) lower taxes, pro-military, everything I stand for and believe in,” he said. “You can’t win by alienating all of them.

“The Asian voter is also turned off,” McCain added, noting the strong population of recent Asian immigrants in the U.S.

The senator has been a target of Trump’s attacks during the real estate mogul’s campaign for the nomination. Trump said McCain is only a war hero “because he was captured” — a comment that drew sharp backlash from supporters of the 2008 GOP nominee, who was shot down during the Vietnam War and spent five years as a prisoner in the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” where he was repeatedly tortured.

McCain didn’t attack Trump yesterday, saying he prefers to follow the “11th Commandment” set forth by former President Ronald Reagan: “Thou shalt not attack a fellow Republican.” He added that, as a “good Republican,” he will support whoever wins the nomination.

He added there are a number of reasons why Trump has a comfortable lead in nearly every poll.

“Anti-incumbency frustration with Washington, a lot of it justified,” he said. “When you have a 12- to 14-percent approval rating of Congress, you can see why they are frustrated.”

McCain joined fellow GOP U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham at Saint Anselm College in Nashua, N.H., yesterday to honor those lost on 9/11 and to help his friend in his underdog race for the nomination.

University of Massachusetts Boston political science professor Erin O’Brien said McCain is “expressing the fears of the Republican party” as Trump soars in the polls.

“The real question is, has Trump reached the tipping point? Is this as high as he can get,” O’Brien said. “It is ironic that McCain has gone from ‘Straight-talk Express’ to expressing the institutional fears of Republicans.”

Trump remained on the attack yesterday, tweeting — “Oh wow, lightweight Governor @Bobby Jindal, who is registered at less than 1 percent in the polls, just mocked my hair. So original!” Jindal this week said Trump’s hair “looks like he’s got a squirrel sitting on his head.”

Trump also touted in a tweet that he’s atop the latest poll with 27 percent of the vote in Iowa with Ben Carson next with 21 percent. The Quinnipiac University survey of those likely to attend the state’s Republican caucus also showed U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz was third with 9 percent.

Also yesterday, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry dropped out of the GOP race, becoming the first major candidate to end his bid for the Oval Office.

OF COURSE, Trump can win!

“Reagan Democrats” will turn the 2016 election into a Republican landslide!

I think it’s a shame Senator McCain doesn’t “know his limitations”.

I wonder what he would say if Trump decides to host a fund-raiser in Arizona for Dr. Kelli Ward, a Conservative Republican primary contender for John McCain’s “seat”.

IMHO. if Trump becomes President, it would be very helpful to his agenda if he has helped replace both Dem Senators and RINO Senators with Conservatives.

Are those Hispanic voters in his home state of AZ part of the crazies who turned out to hear Trump speak?

McCain’s influence can be measured in the poll standings of Mrs. McCain. Last time I checked, Sen. Lindsey Graham was polling ZERO.

McCain should probably limit his “inclusive” concerns to his own reelection...

McLame must really be feeling bad....after all he choose a woman running mate, fabulous woman, and lost and then turned on her so vile...

And now he sees someone rich, powerful, says it like it is, has people gathering everywhere he goes and McLame gets nothing...

He is so ugly natured, and so hateful of any success unless it's his...

It's past time to retire this mean, insane individual from Arizona...

As if McCain knows how to attract Presidential voters ........................... Easy, you pick a babe as a running mate. It worked well for him, she got him more votes than he would have had with a GOPe.

It’s incredible a colossal loser like McPain is so willing to offer advice on how someone else can’t win. Every one of his premises is demonstrably wrong yet he keeps spewing this garbage. And the lame steam media keeps reporting it because it is the same tripe they are peddling.
