It seems that Texas Republicans, like Republicans everywhere else, have caught Trump fever. Insert your favorite pathology joke here.
Donald Trump is the favored presidential candidate among Texas Republican voters, according to a poll released today by the Texas Bipartisan Justice Committee. The Houston Chronicle reported the results.
Trump leads the poll with 24 percent support. Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who had led most Texas polls up to this point, came in second with 16 percent. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson is the only other candidate to garner more than 10 percent. Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and Florida Senator Marco Rubio follow close behind.
Trump has proved to be unassailable. Just one of his campaign trail transgressions could have sunk another candidate, but somehow, hes done more than just stay afloat. Like an aggressive and possibly deadly hot air balloon, he continues to ascend.
Trumps campaign missteps include:
-labelling Mexicans who cross the southern border rapists
-calling for mass deportation of illegal immigrants (including those with U.S.-born children)
-suggesting that Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly had blood coming out of her wherever
-listing his position on just a single issue on his campaign website
-making it clear he was totally joking about those "dating my daughter" comments he made back in 2006
-offering $50 to anyone willing to cheer for him at his campaign announcement
That's an impressive lifetime list for anyone. For Trump to rack up those accolades in just a few months is a monument to his abilities as some sort of rabble-rousing hair piece gremlin.
Still, the surge continues. Trump is Teflon. Thats apparently as true in Texas as anywhere else.
God help us.
The guy is a clown and Texans must have collective insanity rivaling the days of supporting slavery to back him. The fact he is soft on free speech, and doesn’t have a clue about the Islamic threat, is enough to disqualify him. He thrives on bullet point proclamations but what does he really believe in other than raising eyebrows?
I’m loving it; about TIME we found someone who cares about this country and reaches all people. Trump is the only one wearing a hat that states “Make America Great” and that is pathetic that the only Presidential candidate wearing one is not affiliated with any party. Hillary isn’t and neither is Jeb.
He’s saying what a lot of people are thinking.
EXAMPLE: Trump flew into Iowa on his gilded helicopter dressed like a successful businessman....reeking of glamour, money, success and power.
No Iowa hay bales and jeans for Donald. He took one bite out of the idiotic pork-chop-on-a-stick and put it down. A guy like Trump doesn't need the usual Iowa props to get votes.
If Trump leads in Texas, then he is drawing support from Hispanics.
He said he would win blacks and Hispanics, but he hasn’t really even started courting them. The other Republican candidates have ignored minorities, for decades.
The current is the left wing free paper in San Antonio.
They are scum
Sure, so long as people wise up when it’s time to vote and make Cruz the nominee.
LOL. That is hilarious!
Yes he “says” things. What he believes and will do is another story.
Where are the pictures of the world’s smallest violin?
“are we seriously doing this?” what, you mean waking the hell up?
Trump is either going to flame out or the rest of the country is going to catch the fever. He is telling the truth about the most important issue in the country which as far as I am concernedis really the only issue(almost).
So what’s not to like?
*Trump will build a fence, a wall.
*Trump opposes the anchor baby interpretation of the 14th A.
*Trump will bring back jobs from China and Mexico and offshore.
*Trump will restore our military, their weapons, their budget.
*Trump will wipe out the wallet funding ISIS AND take the oil.
*Trump will say “YOU’RE FIRED!”, to the Veterans Administration.
*Trump will place people in his cabinet and ambassadorships on MERIT, not by their campaign contributions.
*Trump will bring health care into the 21st century.
*Trump will go after the minority vote!
So, what’s your problem. Trump has 15 months to toss you a bone. He has covered already what I want covered and he’s been in only 6 weeks.
Sheesh. Cry me a river.
Yeah but that was Fred Thompson’s eventual downfall. He was so dumb to refuse to put on that fire station’s hat. It made him look awful. Not sure if it will have the same outcome with Trump as he is changing all the rules.
I think that one reason he does so well is what I like to call the Trump Cycle, which seems to be:
1. He says something bold and controversial.
2. He inspires some sort of negative reaction from someone that really reveals more about the person having the reaction than Trump.
3. Trump calls the reacting party on it, thereby giving voice to some forbidden thought that we all are thinking and we know we’re not supposed to say.
4. The reacting party that thought they could just silence him with some small investment of time and emotion finds him/herself in a full blown psychological struggle with Trump, and its evident to everyone watching that they’ve got more than they bargained for, and they will likely loose.
5. There is a moment where everyone thinks Trump may get slapped down this time.
6. Trump ends up making the reacting party look stupid somehow.
7. Trump gains in the polls.
8. Rinse and repeat.
In all honesty, have you actually spent any time listening to, or watching the videos of his press conferences and public speeches from this campaign, thus far? If you don’t like the guy, or like another candidate better, fine, that’s your prerogative. However, before you cast dispersions, actually give an objective listen.
Out of all of those, Trump might get one done. You know how government works. He will never get everyone of those things done. If he gets 3 done he will be the best President in our history.
