Atlanta Ted Cruz praised Megyn Kelly in a gaggle with reporters Satuday, but declined to say anything negative about Donald Trump or address the comments Trump made about Kelly.
That was a decision for RedState to make, Cruz said of RedState Gathering host Erick Erickson disinviting Trump from the event.
I think every candidate should treat everyone else with civility and respect. Thats the standard I try to follow, its a standard I hope all of us aspire to. I also think that were not gonna solve the problems in this country, were not gonna defeat the Washington cartel by obsessing over the politics of personalities. This is about real challenges facing the American people. This is about bankrupting our kids and grandkids, defending the bill of rights, and restoring Americas leadership in the world. Thats where my focus has been and its where I intend to keep it.
Asked to directly address the comments, Cruz praised Kelly, calling her a terrific journalist.
I think she does a great job; I think she did a very good job moderating the debate, he said. And Im not gonna engage in the back and forth on personalities.
And with that, Cruz shamelessly changed the subject.
Let me give you a story that is infinitely more important than the momentary bickering between different political candidates, which is what has happened with Gen. Soleimani, Cruz said, and continued to discourse on the subject for several minutes.
Cruz has been perhaps the most reluctant of the GOP field to criticize Donald Trump. His response to Trumps comment that McCain was not a war hero was similar to his response today: Cruz praised McCain, but declined to say anything about Trump or his comment.
Cruz reached out to Trump and met with him in July. If Trump were to leave the presidential race at some point, many of supporters might choose to back Cruz. Asked Saturday if he was seeking to woo Trumps voters, Cruz said he was seeking to win over every other candidates supporters.
Either that or disown Cruz as they have anyone else who said something about the kerfuffle.
Time to move on folks.
How do you get Cruz to move up the polls? Otherwise, its Jeb or Trump right now Should be the bigger concern. Forced to choose Trump if it is himvs Bush.
No, he’s a coward.
Maybe she's more worried about people saying she's pretending to be a reporter, so she has to be tough on the candidates. Fox News is sensitive about people saying that they're automatically on the Republican side, so they feel like they have to ask tough questions.
It doesn't work that way with the rest of the media. Katie Couric and Brian Williams and George Stephanopolous aren't worried that they'll be accused of liberal bias, but (or because) it's people like Katie and Brian and George who determine what the media world thinks. Megyn Kelly works in that world and she may be trying to avoid it judging her too harshly.
You can expect that each candidate gets asked one hard question to make the debate interesting and satisfy FNC that they aren't going easy on the candidates, and I guess Megyn picked Donald as her target.
Cruz is being diplomatic. I think its fine. As long as he doesn’t fall for the trap of going after Trump as well, which Walker and Carly has done
44.
Cruz poll numbers may look low, but its mirage. Most of Cruz voters are probably answering positively for Trump to pollsters.
The man is focused. That is rare.
Its best for Cruz to step away from all of this...
Go Trump/Cruz...
I agree. When connecting the dots, it's pretty apparent.
Never start a war with people that buy ink by the barrel and paper by the ton. Smart move by Cruz to stay out of it.
Cruz handled it well. That said you are right he will be next in the crosshairs once they are done with Trump. There already is a quiet “creep” meme floating about Cruz.
Let’s see how Cruz feels about Megyn Kelly when she turns on him next.
i’m with you
Megyn asked the same kind of questions the nominee will be asked by the Democrat party and mainstream media.
I think it was FINE to ask these kinds of questions.
Remember reading a few weeks ago that Bill Clinton told someone that the “Trump problem” would soon be taken care of?
This is a blood sport - and what can one expect with access to trillions of other people’s money at stake.
I believe she did this to ingratiate herself with the truly powerful and in turn to make herself more powerful. She’s all about Megyn....and with her mindset I have to say she has chosen the perfect careers - lawyer and now fake conservative reporter for a fake conservative network.
Well, I certainly don’t stand with Megyn. Having said that - she did go after Trump in a nasty way and looked absolutely giddy about doing so. Trump said his piece, they moved on to other candidates, and he had to tweet and call her a name - and, then kept it up. I find this so childish. SOrry, but I do. She did the same thing to Walker, Kasich, Rubio and yes, even Jeb. None of them hurled back at her through twitter calling her names. I notice he uses the words, “nice” a lot. It’s like everyone has to be nice to him or all hell will break loose. Maybe having so much money and having yes people around you all th time does that to a person. While I agree that he has every right to defend himself when attacked - it depends on the nature of the attack. Some things should just roll off your shoulders. I’m beginning to see some very bad personality traits in Trump.
Cruz is brilliant. What a mensch.
Cruz nailed it.
I get a kick out of Trump but I look forward to him getting out of the way.
Cruz being “nice” to duh media and not jumping when they say jump.
Correct, they talked about the group that crafted the questions. She was in the room, and her purty lawyer talk certainly played a large roll. She’s just as thin skinned as Trump is though. It’s why when he took her knees out with the Rosie zinger she got angry. For a real example of Kelly’s stability search YouTube for Kirsten Powers Megyn Kelly.
>>"Anyone making an issue out of what Cruz said has another agenda."
My agenda is I don't like lying for brownie points.
