If Donald Trump gets bumped out of the Republican primaries and runs as an independent third party candidate, 36 percent of Republicans and a whopping 19 percent of likely Democratic voters would support him, according to a new poll.
Rasmussen Reports on Monday said that a Trump third party bid would complicate the presidential election even more than it did when H. Ross Perot ran in 1992, a bid that many believe cost former President George H.W. Bush a second term.
According to the poll:
Over a third (36 percent) of likely GOP voters say they are likely to vote for Trump if he's a third-party candidate, with 18 percent who are :very likely" to do so.
One-in-three voters who are not affiliated with either major party (33 percent) also are likely Trump voters, including 16 percent who say they are very likely to vote for him if he runs third-party.
Even 19 percent of Democrats describe themselves as likely Trump voters, although that includes just nine percent (9 percent) who say they are very likely to vote that way.
Other recent polls found that a Trump independent run would cost the Republican nominee and all but guarantee a Democratic victory.
“Id prefer he didnt do this, but if the GOP nominates Jebhole Bush, then I say go ahead.”
ditto. AND I’d vote for Trump in that case too.
How exactly has the current Republican congress has prevailed against Obama?
Iran nuclear deal?
Obamacare?
Obamatrade?
Climate change EO’s?
I think unless Cruz is the guy, Trump runs a 3rd ticket. Trump will end up out and will fully back Cruz, if it’s Bush. watch out
He can simply run as the libertarian nominee and call himself the ‘Independent’ candidate. Libertarians already have access to the ballot.
Voters need not register as libertarians to nominate him if their state is an open primary state. Enough would crossover to ensure he’s on the ballot.
As for libertarian ideology, it doesn’t matter. The true adherents to that ideology are small in number. Their ballot access would conveniently serve as a vehicle to elevate Trump’s message.
And Trump could work his art on the libertarian brand as a solutions oriented political party. Ted Cruz could join him. The party’s bylaws could be utilized to change the name if necessary to ‘Independent Party’ etc.
And Trump has mentioned his admiration for some in the libertarian party.
The ‘Green Party’ also has national ballet access but their membership is another order of magnitude higher on the weirdness scale than libertarians. Their ideology follows the prevalence of their leftist members many of whom are hard-core left. So this would not be a match for Trump/Cruz.
Is Ted winning among republican primary voters?
Have you seen the 25 different polls in last 2 months?
But you see him winning in general with democrat votes?
How? Please explain.
Uh, no.
Do the math.
They can pass any law they want to but of course the President has to sign it.
The normal outrage by the public if the President does not sign a law seems to be a thing of the past though.
Also, the Congress seems to check with the President before passing anything that he does not like. This is called an abrogation of powers. Our Constitution clearly states that the three powers, Executive, Legislative, and Judicial have equal power but it seems that two of the three have given up their powers.
Actually, this has occurred because our Constitutional government has failed. We no longer have Government by the people but Government by the Party. That was never what our democracy was meant to be.
What the means is our so called Representatives are voting as their leader wishes instead of what the people wish.
The House and the Senate are both corrupt!
WOW...that guy Trump will donate to us? Time to grin from ear to ear! We know he is very rich, so let us schmooze up to the Donald!
I am not a trump supporter, however, if the GOP nominated Bush and trump went 3rd party, I’d go ahead and vote for him, because if I have to choose between Bush and Hillary, I am going to choose Hillary, not because I like her, but because I’d rather be entertained by her bungling buffoonery than pissed off all day, every day by Jeb Bush’s sniveling vaginery.
There is only one party the Demopublican. Trump should start a second Party.
1000 babies every single day...AMERICAN BABIES KILLED BY THE TERRORIST ORGANIZATION PLANNED PARENTHOOD....the GOP could have used the senate nuke option and defunded planned parenthood with 51 votes ...easy.
If the GOP won’t get upset while 1000 American Babies are murdered EVERY DAY and some sold in pieces....the GOP CAN GO TO HELL.
That is what I thought. But many posters are mad because Obamacare was not de-funded by the current GOP congress. Actually Obamacare law was passed by the congress and signed by the president, all democrats of course.
But the congress can not defund an established laws without the president signing the change of funding. So it gets convoluted.
“it matters little at this point because both parties and all participants would do almost the same so really no difference!”
Indeed. As is the case now. The Pubs could repeal obamacare this very minute IF THEY REALLY WANTED TO by using the nuclear option in the Senate, the exact same strategy the Dems used to pass it. Heck, ever since the Pubs controlled the House, the Pubs could have used the budget process to end obama’s agenda IF THEY REALLY WANTED TO. Just pass a budget denying everything in Obama’s agenda, adjourn for a week while daring him to veto it, and then do that once a week until obama gave in and accepted their budget.
But no, the Pubs don’t actually want to change anything at all. They don’t won’t to rock their individual re-election boats, because to Pubs, THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS GETTING THEMSELVES RE-ELECTED.
Heck, at least the Dems are willing to sacrifice themselves as individuals to pass their kommie agenda, which is why they lost the House and then the Senate. But guess what? They got their entire agenda passed and they knew the Pubs wouldn’t care enough about that to take the heat necessary to undo it. And they were right.
So, bottom line? We have nothing to lose with Trump. Nothing at all. Heck, we don’t even really lose anything with Hillary vs one of the Pub hacks, almost any of which would lose to Hillary anyway because almost none of them have the gumption to do what it takes to win, namely attack, attack, attack.
I thought the Libertarian Party also picked their candidate before the convention.
Perot may have cost Bush the presidency. But I’ll say again Perot did not take my vote from Bush. If Perot had not been on the ballot I would have stayed home. I’ll stay home next time if my only choice is a rino or a democrat.
I feel the same way about Trump as Cruz
My feelings in ‘92 were “Bush, you read MY lips. No vote from me!”
We wish, but it will never happen.
She will drop out of the race under a fake pretense.
I am all for a Four Way race for the Presidency. This two party BS has been around too long. There are too many voices out here not being heard by both sides.
I am all in for the unbuyable non politician, preferably with Cruz and West by his side. If it comes down to Yeb! vs sHrillary with Trump being third party then once again, I am all in for Trump.
whats the difference between this picture and numerous ones of any Bush being chummy with the Clintoons.
Donald has to play both sides of the fence. I am a native NYer, been seeing this guy pretty much all my life and of course in his position he has to straddle both sides of the fence.
Your post is lame.
I am a Cruz man my myself and without help from Trump there is no way he gets near the nomination. It was also a BAD move for him to go get in line at the Koch Bros. office last week. Trump cant be bought so he wont owe anyone.
The bully pulpit.
Trump gets his face on TV and tells the American people to call their G-D congress critter NOW and INSIST on passing positive legislation. Stir the people up to torch and pitchfork levels and DEMAND that congress votes in TERM LIMITS or their butts are getting voted out in 2 yrs or their next cycle.
Trump would appeal to the common man to rattle the cages of Washington once and for all.
