Trump may be setting up party for Cruz
The Sauk Valley Gazette ^ | July 31, 2015 | Richard Rowland Polo

While perusing the articles and stories one can find on the computer (my wife says I spend way too much time on this thing), and the posted comments related to the articles, I came across a comment concerning Donald Trump (imagine that) and his lack of qualifications to be the next president.

A poster had commented that Republicans can’t seem to get it right in their selection of candidates; notably, with Trump in the mix.

Deciding to have a little fun with this person, I pointed out that the Democrats hadn’t done such a hot job picking a candidate in the past two elections, either. I also pointed out that the president wasn’t all that qualified in the job department when considering his prior job experience.

After all, when all you have for a job recommendation for the highest office in the land is having been a community organizer, and junior senator in one of the most corrupt and bankrupt states in the country, that isn’t saying much.

I proceeded to explain to this person that Trump’s strategy is to continue building a large lead in the polls; then, call a news conference to announce he’s withdrawing from the race.

The only reason Trump entered in the first place, he explains, was to set the tone of the dialog. He recommends his followers get behind Sen. Ted Cruz.

Sen. Cruz breezes through the Republican primaries, defeats Hillary in the general election, and is now our new United States president. Wahoo.

Cruz is young. He could serve as VP and be in a good position for President. 16 years of good leadership sounds fine to me.

Why don’t you admit it, Lurker.
You don’t have anything positive to say.
You’re just here to smear Ted Cruz.

“And he has raised more hard money (as against soft SuperPAC money) than anyone else on the Republican side, including Jeb Bush.”

And there is the plus, CRUZ is cris crossing the country and from what I read his hard money has come from over 175,000 donors as well as over half of the ZIP Codes. these are the voters along with support, the Super PAC are basically financial help (which is necessary) but few votes. (A person gives 10 million but only gets one vote)

Trump is on tv regularly flashing his bling with his hot-looking daughter and schmoozing with B-list celebs on his show while donating big bucks to various charities. The Lo-Fo crowd enjoys him and Trump will get several of these B-list celebs to stump for him when the time comes. It’s superficial as hell but that what impresses the Lo Fos. Look at who has won the last two elections.

Interesting theory, but here’s why I don’t agree.

The lo fos are also liberal....they didn’t just vote for Obama because he was cool and hip.....not singularly...they also voted for him because like them, he is a socialist. It was both. Take away one or the other, and the recipe would not work.

Then again, maybe Trump will win them over since he too loved Obama in 2008. (gonna leave a mark...)

Ridiculous. Why can’t the media spend their valuable space informing people about where the candidates stand on each and every issue rather than wasting a lot of space on either trivia or imagined stuff?

where do you get the idea that Trump has this massive appeal among the lo fo crowd? I think that’s absurd.

Oh he does...trust me. People who I've never heard express a political opinion are talking about Trump in positive terms. My own grandkids, very young, know who Trump is. Their parents aren't all that policial. We had a big festival in our town the last few days and I heard two random conversation talking about Trump in favorable terms.

I think he's penetrating low information voters in a positive way. That's something that no other candidate, Republican or Conservative, is doing. He's not the same old, same old.

The conventional media have not figured out how to handle him. Those who aren't old enough to remember Reagan (most of them) have never seen anything like this before.

Hah that's certainly true. They've thrown almost their entire playbook at him and he doesn't respond like their usual targets. He fights back, dismisses them, and moves on. He doesn't apologize, quit, and slink away. THAT'S where most of his appeal is coming from right now I think.

-I like that scenario—but the cynic in me says that the Repub establishment and Jeb go all out with appeal to “moderate” Democraps after Hillary implodes , as the “centrist, reasonable” candidate and the Washington establishment gets permanency——

Agree

The Jindal who placed Common Core into the schools in Louisiana? When he still had the power to move it out (about two years ago), he was out of the state running for president. He has been running for president since the next day he won the election seven and a half years ago.

He’s got a record of conservatism stretching back several weeks.”

Have you read any of his books?

I don’t care about charm in a candidate. The only qualification that means anything to me is whether the candidate understands the Constitution and will defend it with his life to the point of exhaustion like Ronald Reagan did.

“Sorry, but I can’t get past feeling Trump is a Democratic plant.”

You should go by evidence rather than feelings. He has called Hillary a criminal. He can’t smile and walk that back.
