A longtime Scott Walker adviser anonymously tells National Journal that the now officially announced presidential contenders strategy will be to first lock up conservatives and then move to a more moderate position later on in the campaign.
You start in Iowa and lock up conservatives, because if you dont do that, none of the rest matters, Walkers adviser reportedly told journalist Tim Alberta. Its much easier to move from being a conservative to being a middle-of-the-road moderate later on.
In Iowa, you see the beginnings of that, he added. Hes capturing that conservative wing first and foremost, and then moving from Iowa to the other states and bringing other voters into the fold.
The idea, according to the adviser, is that Walkers strategy on the national playing field will be the same as what has worked in Wisconsin: he will present himself as a blue-collar, down to earth kind of guy who didnt graduate from college, who appeals to everyone and, ultimately, unites all stripes of the Republican Party.
By way of example, the National Journal points to this ad put out by Walkers re-election campaign last fall during his battle with Democrat Mary Burke....

No, Bob. This is a football game where your side is right and the other side is wrong. Go, team, go. There is no common ground only that which separates us from our neighbor. Please don’t tell me this needs a sarcasm label.
Intimidated by a woman. coward.
KMA.
SUCKAHS!!
You couldnt answer her question and tried intimidating her but it didn’t work. Now you don’t even have the courage to tell me directly how you fell. Hiding behind initials. Coward.
Hahahaha
That is a $64,000 question. Should I hold my breath waiting for an answer?
I think Cruz can be persuaded on the H1-B issue. He is for drastically limiting legal immigration overall.
Make your opinion known to him. I did.
Here, here! One primary day makes a LOT of sense.
So, the truth is easier if it comes later?
Scott, why do you surround yourself with quislings?
.
This is more blatant, IMO. An advisor who says “Our strategy is to trick all the conservatives” can’t expect to hold onto that job very long - or SHOULDN’T expect to hold onto the job. Even a mole needs to show a little more common sense.
Try Du, you’ll fit right in.
When I was a student at Purdue, one of the graffiti in the Engineering building was a formula that can be translated into English as: limit as GPA goes to zero of Engineer = Business.
That strategy worked so well for Mitt.
“That strategy worked so well for Mitt.”
Agree, I’m not sure following the Rove formula is such a good idea, but most Republican candidates, and I guess Walker included, based on this article, trust Rove more than they trust the Republican base.
Disappointing.
Does anyone really need an anonymous advisor to tell them that????
Look at the data:
He was for amnesty before he was against it.
He has hired several pro-amnesty campaign staffers.
He is buddies with Reince Priebus.
He is endorsed by Grover Norquist and has been hosted by him.
He has mentioned Marco “Amnesty” Rubio as a running mate.
This guy is in the pocket of the Chamber.
Sure conservatives like the fact that he took it to the unions. That doesn’t make him a conservative necessarily. A lot of folks here don’t know how to distinguish a “corporatist” from a conservative.
He will disappoint the base on illegals. Guaranteed.
You confusing a corporatist agenda with a conservative agenda. There is some overlap. Walker is in the pocket of the Chamber.
As a county executive he supported amnesty. He will again.
You don’t get to be buddies with Grover Norquist without dancing for K Street and the Cheap Labor Express
+1
2DV is a good supporter of Cruz. I like Cruz, too. For the last few months, I’ve sent Cruz money—wondering if Walker would truly get in.
Now that Walker is in, I am supporting him.
I will support the Republican nominee, even if it is an ugh RINO, but right now my primary support goes to Walker.
He does not have my vote. Period.
