Sen. Ted Cruz outlined how he would fix Social Security, striking a balance between candidates who propose immediate cuts and those who wish to leave it mostly in place.
(VIDEO-AT-LINK)
Cruz said hed keep benefits the same for seniors and those close to retirement in a June 4 interview with Fox News Neil Cavuto. For everyone else, hed propose gradually increasing the retirement age, limiting the increase in benefits to the inflation rate and allowing workers to keep some of their tax payment in a private account.
Cruz makes strong impression on conservative non-profit
The Council for National Policya secretive, conservative non-profit focused on legislative initiatives and political strategyis looking to unite behind one conservative candidate in 2016. Cruz might be their guy, according to National Journal.
While other candidates gave stump speeches at May CNP meeting near Washington, D.C., Cruz pitched himself as a true conservative who could unite the movement behind him and capture the Republican nomination. Even employees of other 2016 hopefuls were impressed by Cruz: one gave his speech a 14 on a 10-point scale....

One of the reasons I can’t find a Republican candidate who has earned my vote:
They all support the propping up of the unconstitutional centerpieces of Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal and Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society.
It’s an old story:
The Democrats propose to tear down the Washington Monument, and the Republicans respond with a sensible plan to do it in three stages.
The Republican slogan, if they were being honest:
‘We think we can do socialism better than Obama, or Johnson, or Roosevelt.’
There’s “progressive” taxation on income, too. But it’s still Marxism, once you get past the bastardization of definitions.
“From each according to his means, to each according to his needs.”
More simply put, “Something for nothing.”
The man paid into it. Once you declare that at some level of income or wealth one isn’t eligible, it just a matter of time until it reaches your level.
See income taxes for how its done.
I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.-- James Madison, the father of the U.S. Constitution
I worked at the state unemployment office as a veteran’s representative for many years. One day the staff brings a veteran to my office. While I’m talking with him I look up his past quarters of earnings and the figures astound me (millions of dollars per quarter) so I ask him about it. He had owned a mid-size insurance company (not an agency, an actual company) and he said he sold it to the French a year before and stayed on as an employee for a year, per agreement. Now he was at our office to file for unemployment, something he was never eligible for as an owner. Should he have eschewed money owed him and paid for by the French company?
There is lots of waste and fraud that can be cut and the idea that anyone on this supposed conservative website believes that since someone did better than they did they should be robbed through excess and fraudulent taxes is astounding.
Just goes to show that the Lefts propaganda and class warfare is working.
Progressive taxation is a Marxist tenant!
“And, he made his big dough on the sale of his company. “
Ah, so he paid the employer part, too. (Or paid self-employment tax). So you want to screw him out of that, as well?
“I suspect he doesnt even know the SS is deposited monthly, so let bleed everyone to make sure he is happy.”
You sound like Obama. “He’s rich. He won’t mind if we steal more of his money. He’s made enough.”
“Yeah, thats conservative...was your uncle Carnegie, Rockefeller or Weyerhauser?”
No, my uncle was a poor man. Just because I come from humble background, I don’t agree that stealing is a good thing. My G-d, the G-d of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, the HaShem, forbids stealing.
Class warfare is for Democrats.
of course.
So, you have no problem with “high income” people being robbed for the sake of spreading their income to low income people. Got it. Congratulations. You have bought into the class warfare meme.
Of course he shouldn’t have taken it or of course he should have?
So it’s OK to talk about screwing over tax paying middle class type working people but we dare not speak of screwing wealthy people and/or poor people because that’s class warfare? is that it?
your asking if a millionaire should receive unemployment benefits, correct? I think not.
I’m not sure Social Security can be made right by playing at the margins. We can cut off the disability crowd, we can fight fraud, we can push retirement ages, and we can give younger workers opportunities to opt out but that won’t even be a percentage of the real cost which is the massive payouts owed to the baby boomers. Means testing is theft, Marx style, there is no doubt about it but if playing at the margins and hoping for massive economic growth does not pay the bills what is the next option? Once the government looted the pot SS became a Ponzi scheme and eventually somebody is not gonna get paid. What is the fairest way to determine the loser?
FL
Really? Even though under the law he earned the benefits? I didn't realize this was a Christian Socialist or Populist website. And why do you resent success?
No it isn’t, the fact is that we where all lied to. We where all sold a bill of goods, by gun point.
He paid his social Security taxes. He followed the rules, he should get his payment, just like everyone else.
It is not the wealthy, middle class, or working class that gets screwed, I hate those Marxist terms. It is the responsible savers who put away something for their retirement instead of buying a McMansion, new cars and going on expensive vacations.
There are plenty of high earners who spend more than they earn, we should not be penalizing responsible people who may have made significantly less money yet saved and invested to have a substantial nest egg to carry them comfortably through their later years.
I agree with you that it was robbery.
But the only way to keep the socialist Ponzi scheme going is to lie to, and rob, others, as you say, at gun point.
That’s not right.
No, you are incorrect.
SSDI is administrated by the. Social Security Administration, but the funding is from income taxes (the general fund).
Social security is already means tested, by how benefits are calculated.
And the SSA has already evaluated further means testing. I will dig up th URL later, but it has very little effect unless you apply it to middle income retirees.
It was never right, but I have had hundreds of thousands of dollars stolen from me through my taxes on income. Anyone that has earned enough to pay close to the maximum since 1980’s when they increased the rate to 7.5% for each the employee and employer has paid in close to $15 grand a year for thirty years. That is damn near half a million dollars before interest!
Meanwhile they have relentlessly raised the retirement rate & the taxes on the benefits. They should simply raise the retirement age to 100 and stop lying.
The problem is that people also have to lead their lives and pay their rents, insurances and Health care.
