Conservatives plot to hijack 2016 Republican nomination at secret meeting

Ideas include oath to single candidate, pledge to stay in race until end.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — As the Republican National Committee convenes its spring meeting in this resort city, conservative activists fearful of getting stuck with another moderate candidate in 2016 are gathering 2,300 miles away to plot strategies to engineer the presidential nomination to their liking.

Representatives of some 40 conservative groups plan to meet Wednesday at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in the Washington suburb of McLean, Virginia, where they will air their fears of having the nomination process hijacked by establishment Republicans and wrestle over different strategies to turn the primaries and caucuses to their advantage.

Their goal is to avoid ending up with another moderate, establishment candidate like they landed in 2008 with John McCain and in 2012 with Mitt Romney. Their hope is to find a way to pick a nominee who, if elected, would actually stay the course the way they think Ronald Reagan did 35 years ago....

Same old same old ;)

You know what strikes me and has for years? How little actual aggressive behavior it takes on the part of conservative groups with any power or influence at all to rally the base and scare the liberals of the right sXitless.

Nope. Still as realistic as ever. Hopeful when there’s something worth hoping for, Not so much when the facts lead that way.

If you go back over the decades....there are certain who knew months ahead that they only had a chance in two or three states....so they concentrated only in those and were there to hold back some other guy. It’s part of the strategy of the primary system.

I think if we wanted to really shake up the system....let’s limit the entire primary season to three days in May...convention in June...and go national for 90 days prior to the election. This idea of having a soap opera theater operation from March of the year prior....all the way to November of the next year...is pretty bogus if you ask me.

Well it’s been so damn rare to see aggression coupled with brains enough to make the cut. I am foolishly inspired that there is this little army of leaders willing to band together and try to play a little chess against the Establishment. They have had no real threat to their game whatsoever and I hope this brings it.

I know it hinges on delegate chasing and motives and I like the idea of holding everyone in the race all the way to the convention along with their delegates, large or small in numbers. Otherwise, it’s a Mississippi operation all over again.

Probably will take a little willingness to cooperate up to a point. Don’t know if the faint of heart can play chess though. HA! Freepers are known to love a fracture.

This cycle there is no one who isn’t a defender of life of the preborn and freedom of religion, and I pray they junk our pathetic indoctrination of our public education. We will never vote again if Hillary should somehow manage a miracle and pull off a dirty win. That would likely be the only way she can win the way things are looking for her.

You nailed that.Do you remember how the two families didn’t like each other and it was evident to anyone paying half attention.

A very good post and something I’ve been saying for awhile now.

A true conservative has a chance to win the nomination by them-self but, to win the presidency they will need to unify the base as unpalatable as that sounds to some people. Remember a VP has basically no legislative responsibilities if the Senate is controlled by the same party. If Biden can do the job adequately, and he has despite the gaffs, gropes, and malapropisms, anyone can.

I think if Cruz wins the nomination and Satan’s Prom Queen is the demonrat nominee then he needs to pick a female to be the VP to at least partially defuse the stupid left wing woman vote. Palin has been too damaged by the hostile left and honestly, she is not good at thinking on her feet and debating.

Cruz/Fiorina (Female) Cruz/Martinez (Hispanic Female) Cruz/Rice (Black Female)

There are probably issues with all of them but that is the way to go

“do you really think Fiorina has any following?”

It isn’t about following. She can handle herself in a debate, she comes across as intelligent professional, liberals won’t vote against her as they would Palin because they haven’t spent literally years disparaging her, she would also mollify the E-Rebubs. Is she a true conservative? I don’t think so but she’d be a good pick.

Ask yourself, did Biden have a following outside Delaware? Was putting him on the ticket going to deliver a Mid-Atlantic state to the Obama campaign? No! He was added to give the ticket experience in government. Fiorina would give the ticket a woman so that Satan’s Prom Queen would not automatically get the vote of those who think with their vagina.

Can't help but to see "vast Left Wing conspiracies" (or even Right-Wing conspiracies against conservatives) and couldn't help but wonder about the "think" being tossed into that sentence.

I read that back in Sept there was a similar meeting with Tony Perkin’s group and the vow was to get behind ONE candidate, early, and avoid the moderate slipping in between 2 of them.

Cruz was there.

we may have to settle for either a Cruz/Rubio or Cruz/Martinez ticket. both are our only hope at this point.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Either would work for me, but, I’m not so sure that two Hispanics at the top of the Ticket would be acceptable to most Americans. If our nominee has a Hispanic surname (Cruz or Rubio), how about Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn of TN as VP? If we have a non-Hispanic nominee (e.g. Walker), then let’s go with Gov. Susana Martinez of NM. What say ye? Anyone.

OK...... and what was the outcome of that meeting? Were they able to settle on one candidate, and if so, who?
