Rand Paul is already marketing himself as the millennial-friendly choice for 2016. But one thing is not boding well for him: his Facebook mentions after he announced his candidacy pale in comparison to Ted Cruz.
National Journal has a great graph of the numbers provided by FacebookCruzs campaign got almost three times as much play on Facebook as Pauls. They measured this by likes, posts, comments, and shares related to the two would-be presidents within 24 hours of their respective announcements.
Cruzs March 23 announcement had 5.7 million total interactions, versus Pauls 1.9 million on Tuesday.
One possible reason for the disparity: Cruz may be more hated by liberals, and thus generated more frantic posts from the left. Cruz also announced first, meaning he officially kicked off 2016. National Journal also notes that Paul announced on a heavier news day than Cruz.
Interestingly, DC had the highest engagement on Cruz, while Kentucky had the highest for Paul, suggesting that the political class in more invested in Cruz than in Paul.
The top issue discussed around Cruz was foreign policy, while for Paul it was LGBT issues.
There is, however, one Facebook metric where Paul is beating Cruz: he has 1.9 million likes on his page, to Cruzs 1.2 million. And, according to Pauls campaign, his campaign website views were over a million within the first 24 hours of its launch. The largest demographic? 24-35 year olds.
Probably because of all that sweet swag.
Paul has more in common with liberals, hell he is more liberal than most liberals.
Here is a piece of what he said in his speech.
“ I see an America where criminal justice is applied equally and any law that disproportionately incarcerates people of color is repealed.”

To add he also now uses the lefts talking points and calls people Neo Cons.
The man is for himself and his father. I know for a fact I will not vote for him nor will any of my family.
The best he could have done is not run and just help to get Hillary defeated.
My money is on Cruz first and foremost.
My fall back position is on Cruz as well.
Don’t want Rand Paul.
Ted Cruz isnt Playing Leader..He IS ONE!
Rand’s stuck in make believe land
Ted makes ya believe!
And Rand is as thin skinned and "girly" was wee barry !
No but he does have his minion force on the ground to play havoc with the candidates as his father did. Dial-em' up and they're ready to go. Like bugs that pester but serve no meaning other than do to just that....eventually they go away.
Paul is not ready for primetime and he will never be ready for my vote.
Cruz has my vote, period.
“Show me where I touted Facebook.”
The point I was trying to make was about how the article made a big deal out of Facebook friends, “likes” and “mentions” like they really mean something important, like money in the bank.
I’ve never favorited or mentioned anyone on FB because I don’t use it. I started one time and they wanted my cellphone number. That was it. My point is not about your content but how the original author made a deal out of FB indicators.
Maybe the indicators do mean something to some, but not to me, and like I said earlier when Zuckerberg is making money you can bet it is going to a liberal cause like stealing our gun rights, other rights and privacy.
Welcome to 2015. Where have you been?
What does this even mean??
I’m 100% for Cruz but I’m glad Paul is in the race. I don’t believe Paul fears God but I love how he is ripping the establishment.
They make a great tag team!
I agree with the NO FB. I consider it “My stuff is better than yours”; I don’t twitter either. Twitter is definitely too juvenile.
If your claim is “My FB page gets more hits or likes than yours, you are definitely NOT MY CANDIDATE.
BUMP
