Ted Cruz defended his lack of executive experience this weekend saying that he is not a community organizer. The Texas senator explained that unlike Barack Obama, who also ran for president after one term in the Senate, he had accomplished more before becoming a legislator. Cruz pointed to his period as solicitor general of Texasan answer that was itself a display of the debating talents his supporters say qualify him to be president. Cruz wasnt answering the question as much as redefining the criteria. A lack of executive experience cannot be overcome by simply not having the attributes of the last president who also lacked it.
On the strict comparison, Cruz has more leadership experience than Obama had at the beginning of his presidential campaign. Over five and a half years as solicitor general, Cruz led a large agency with hundreds of lawyers. Obama never ran an equally complex organization.
But thats not the operative issue when executive experience is the question. The practical question is whether he has the kind of skills the Republican governors hes competing against use every day and which most closely approximate the ones a president needs....

Is this the meme they've decided to run with?
What difference does it make? B.Obama can’t.
He’s gotta stop playing defense on this issue. The longer he does, the worse it gets. Offense, Ted. Offense. Don’t fall for the ignorant BS, and QUIT PLAYING DEFENSE. It’s a losing proposition in politics.
John Dickerson, you dunderhead! You say:
“Over five and a half years as solicitor general, Cruz led a large agency with hundreds of lawyers. Obama never ran an equally complex organization.”
Would you please explain to us what “executive experience” is, if it is not running a complex organization????
Funny how liberal hacks only ask this crap about conservative Republicans with strong beliefs.
What about Reid, Schumer, Murray, Feinstein, Wasserman, Barney Frank, Bloomberg, the democrat racist in Iowa/Kansas who said he wants to kill white cops, etc?
What bullcrap.
He can use his pen and phone if dissent happens!
Rather hard for you to convince me that commanding generals lack executive experience. I can accept the JFK and Lincoln examples.
Though Cruz did make a valid case that he was the executive for a large state agency. Obama never ran so much as a paper route.
The libs seem very interested in preventing Cruz from being the GOP nominee. I’m sure that the only reason for this is that they want to help the Republican Party be stronger and more competitive as time goes by. /sarc
Nah, those Canucks are always sticking you with their harpoons or body slamming you on the ice.
Glib and stupid.
"Community organizing" is about creating disorder in the community.
Also as Obama proved once in office, there are limits to the power of stirring the grassroots to achieve executive rather than political goals. Plus, the idea that a candidate skilled at focusing grassroots passion could change the entire shape of government is an argument for community organizing. Cruz may be good at it, but he says hes not.
It's hard to fathom what he means by "executive rather than political goals" or what that has to do with either Cruz or Obama. And the last sentence is also glib and obtuse. If Dickerson thinks what Ted Cruz has done is similar to Obama's "community organizing" that should be his point, not what Cruz says about Obama's "community organizing."
A lack of executive experience cannot be overcome by simply not having the attributes of the last president who also lacked it.
Interesting that they would admit to Obama’s lack of
experience...
I don’t think Cruz is necessarily interested in “playing”. Not Washington’s game anyway.
I have seen what Harvard and Yale educated presidents have done to the Nation. They trashed it. I look at a lack of a college degree as a good thing (Governor Walker). I choose to give Senator Cruz a pass on being a Harvard guy. He gets everything else right.
In fact, every criticism of Cruz upchuked by the lamestream media is a reason to vote for Senator Cruz. We should let the authorized journalists know. The more they bash him, the better we like him.
Ted should paraphrase this as his campaign strategy statement.
...didn’t ... and won’t ....
Journalists are today’s scribes and Pharisees. They have this self-anointed sense of entitlement as the arbiters of public and private morality. Who elected them? Who appointed them? No one. What are their credentials? Slim to none.
I don’t want someone who plays well with the uni-party crony mob in DC.
playing well with others would hardly seem a likely issue for Slate or other left-wing media to raise....after 6 solid years of Obama/Pelosi/Reid not playing AT ALL with anybody outside their little IslamoNazi/Communist Party cellblock.
From the Web:
“Welcome to the Texas Attorney General’s Employment Opportunities page. This state agency employs over 4000 people in a wide variety of professional, administrative, and technical positions. Employees of the Attorney General’s Office enjoy excellent benefits along with tremendous opportunities to do important work and make a positive difference in the lives of all Texans.”
The job description of the AG is even better - and fits well with President. Talks about defending the rights of ALL Texans, etc.
