GOFFSTOWN Sen. Ted Cruz laid out his policy of opportunity conservatism at a Politics & Eggs breakfast Monday morning at St. Anselm Colleges New Hampshire Institute of Politics.
Our focus, I believe, on every issue ... should be how does it impact those struggling to achieve the American dream, said the Texas Republican considering a run for the White House in 2016. That is my focus every day.
Cruz called for a laser focus on opportunity for all domestic policies, and said he rejects the idea that the GOP is the party of the rich, calling it the single biggest lie in all of politics.
The rich do just fine with big government, he said. Big business does great with big government ... The people that get hammered by big government are the little guys.
Cruz said that domestic policy should focus on empowering people to climb the economic ladder and take ownership of their future. He spoke of his father, a Cuban immigrant who spoke no English and worked his way from a dishwasher to a computer programmer and eventually a pastor. He also cited his mother, a computer programmer who worked in technology at a time when few women did, as an example of the kind of success he wants for all Americans.
Every one of us has a story just like that (in our families), he said. What ties Americans together is we are the children of those who risked everything.
Cruz said that economic growth has been his top priority since his election to the Senate, and he believes that it should be a bipartisan effort.
If we stay at anemic, stagnant growth, theres no solution we cant cut enough, we cant tax enough, he said. Growth should be the singular focus.
Cruz said the best way to promote growth would be creating a flat tax rate, regulation reform, and repealing the Affordable Care Act, which he called the biggest job-killer in the country.
I believe, in January of 2017, a new Republican is going to enter the White House, and in 2017 is going to sign legislation repealing every word of Obamacare, he said.
Unlike some of his fellow Republicans in Washington, Cruz said he does not believe repealing the ACA or implementing a flat tax are unrealistic.I fundamentally reject that premise and, by the way, so do the American people, he said.
An audience member asked Cruz what his plans were for preserving Social Security and Medicare for future generations. Cruz replied that there should be no change to entitlement programs for seniors who currently rely on them. He suggested gradually increasing the retirement age and changing the rate of growth of Social Security to match inflation.
Those two changes together have a massive impact on the solvency of Social Security,
Cruz also suggested that younger workers be able to keep a portion of their Social Security tax payments in a private account.
Cruz told reporters after the event that the people he met on his trip to New Hampshire are hungry for leadership to restore the promise of America. He said he is expecting to see a movement similar to the Reagan Revolution of 1980.
The failures of Barack Obamas economic policies and foreign policies are producing the very same kind of grassroots movement across this country, of millions of men and women ... who recognize there is a better way, he said. We want to reclaim the promise of America.
Cruz also cautioned that the GOP nominee for 2016 shouldnt fall in the mushy middle like past candidates such as Mitt Romney.
When you have a clear, meaningful distinction, that gives people a reason to cross over, he said. Thats how we win, and even more importantly, thats also how we turn the country around.
This is a great idea.
Its a very positive message much like Reagan spoke of in 1980.

One of my favorite Reagan speeches BTW.

AMEN Brother!

Heck Yeah!
Ted Cruz is THE MAN!
I’m sure the choir is listening, but it’s true. He’s got such great ideals.
Cruz ping.
I stand with Ted
At CPAC Ted was the only one who did not try to discuss plans for “retraining” Americans.
Cruz is the leader America needs.
Most republican candidates promise to cut taxes, reduce government, and improve national security. That is ok, and will be business as usual for a republican administration.
However, if you want drastic change to reverse what the liberals have done, Ted Cruz is the way to go.
All other candidates, except Ted Cruz will be holding hands with Boehner and McConnell to protect their cronies. Ted is the only one who will stand up to them.
Money Quote.
It’s plainly obvious that Ted Cruz is the only electable leader that conservatives have in America. The other candidates slavishly pander to the open-borders crowd of the anti-conservative establishment, the Chamber of Amnesty, and illegal invaders already here in America.
YEs!
