Romney Formally Expresses Interest In Third Presidential Run, Puts Donors On Hold
Jewish Political News and Updates ^ | January 10, 2015 | Staff

Mitt Romney has formally expressed interest in trying his luck for a third time, just weeks after former Florida governor Jeb Bush announced the launch of an exploratory committee to run for president in 2016, The Wall Street Journal first reported Saturday.

“I want to be president,” Romney reportedly told about 30 donors in New York. Everybody in here can go tell your friends that I’m considering a run.”

Romney on Friday also e-mailed his donors with invitations to his fourth annual policy summit in Park City, scheduled for June 11-13.

Just a year ago, in an interview with The New York Times, Romney commented when asked about another presidential run, “Oh, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no.”

So what has changed since?

“I believe Mitt Romney is too much of a patriot to sit on the sidelines and concede the presidency to Hillary Clinton or [Massachusetts Sen.] Elizabeth Warren when he knows that he can fix the country,” Spencer Zwick, Romney’s 2012 national finance chairman, who accompanied Romney to Friday’s New York meeting, told The Washington Post. “I think, at the end of the day, he believes he could actually make a difference. He won’t make a decision to run for president based on who else is in the race. He will make a decision based on his own desire and his own abilities.”

Friday’s declaration of interest by Romney is seen as an attempt to block donors from flocking to Bush, now considered the establishment candidate.

Veteran GOP consultant Ed Rollins told the Post, “Romney knows that he can block donors from going to Bush if he sends a clear enough message.”

“If you put Romney and Bush head to head, I think Romney probably wins that fight,” Rollins was quoted as saying. “Nobody is wholesale walking away from him. The donor base and operatives are still there. Bush thought he’d have an open field to easily beat Christie. Romney, if he gets in, changes that plan.”

The 2012 presidential nominee argued in private conversations, Politico reported, that Bush will likely face some of the same criticism over his own extensive business ties.

A former Romney adviser was quoted by BuzzFeed as saying, “Jeb is Common Core, Jeb is immigration … Can you imagine Jeb trying to get through a Republican primary? Can you imagine what Ted Cruz is going to do to Jeb Bush? I mean, that’s going to be ugly.”

Nonetheless, members of Romney’s inner circle remain skeptical that the two-time Republican presidential contender will make a third bid for the White House. For starters, he has done little to convince even close allies that he is serious about it, TIME’s Zeke Miller writes.

He didn't seem to have any problem conceding the presidency to Obama when he should have beaten him.

Obama enjoys running for president, but he doesn't want the responsibilities that go with it. Romney is just the opposite. He's interested in the office, but won't make any real effort in getting it in the first place.

I'm going to self-ostracize here and say I think Romney's a good guy and would have made a damn fine president, especially for the economy.

That said, his time has come and gone.

I support Cruz.

tx for the PM heads up...

I laughed when I saw the title...

In any event, I fully expect one day a party will rise up in the U.S., backed by those who’ve had enough of this wholesale sellout and corrupt charade.

OMG, Mittens - the father of Obamacare - AGAIN. Count this once Republican down and out. I will not be forced to vote for the best of two liberals. These GOP-e candidates are at war with CONSERVATISM.

You are right when it comes to running against liberals. Romney won’t put any effort into it at all. But when it comes to defeating conservatives he pulls out all the stops. I had never seen anything like the ferocity he used going after Newt Gingrich, but just a few months later in the same state of Florida against Obama, nothing. Never seen anything like that either. Going up and down the state telling people how much you like your opponent is not much of a campaign.

“I think Mormons have a lot of allegiance for him.”

That’s pretty much a given in a cult.

I call BS.

If he wanted to be President, he’d have gone after The One as hard and consistent as he went after conservatives in the primary.

IF he has done that, he’d be the hands down nominee this time because parties don’t normally primary their sitting Presidents.

I voted for this chuckleberry last time around. That was my last ‘better of two evils’ vote.

I just wanted to call him out on saying he wanted to be President. Actions speak louder than words.

I wonder if he seriously believes that any voter really liked him. If so, he’s delusional.

No one gave a damn about him. Mickey Mouse could have gotten his votes. The VAST majority of his voters were just voting AGAINST 0bama, and not FOR him. I know I surely wasn’t voting for him.

Unfortunately, Romney is not 97% of the mormon people. He is just a power-hungry RINO.

His only goal is to block Ted.

Highly unlikely, Romney's primary voters are Jeb's primary voters, not those of Cruz.

We need to encourage Romney and Jeb to both run, along with the fat guy from NJ, and any other RINO that will divide their vote, maybe Paul Ryan.

Cruz (if he runs), or another conservative could then walk in and take the nomination.

Conservatives have divided their vote for years, it's time the RINO's divided their own. I hope 2016 is the year it happens, and the less we bitch about so many RINO's running, the better. We want them ALL to run, until the very end.

Romney is not 97% of the mormon people
________________________________________

well that’s true..

97% of Mormons are not temple Mormons...only 15% are..Willard is one of the 15%, Harry Reid too..

Willard was a Mormon bishop and hes mormon royalty..

He has had the much coveted “2nd anointing” which excuses him from all his sins, he can do no wrong, he doesn’t have to ever wear the magic underwear, and assures him of the Mormon “exaltation”..his own planet filled with many more than just 72 virgins..

Willard thinks that his mormon gods want him to be the king and theocratic dictator of America..

He convinced other Mormon students at his college to call him “one mighty and strong” meaning he was the prophesized coming leader and “savior “of the mormons...

he actually is delusional to the point he thinks he is entitled and already crowned king...

The first Mormon to run for POTUS was Joseph Smith the inventor of Mormonism..

Mormons since Smith have desired to walk in his prophecy..

“Mormon founder Joseph Smith ran for president in 1844 as an independent commander-in-chief of an “army of God” advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government in favor of a Mormon-ruled theocracy. Challenging Democrat James Polk and Whig Henry Clay, Smith prophesied that if the U.S. Congress did not accede to his demands that “they shall be broken up as a government and God shall damn them.”

Smith viewed capturing the presidency as part of the mission of the church and predicted the emergence of “the one Mighty and Strong” – a leader who would “set in order the house of God.”
