To hell with the independents. Thats not usually the animating principle of a presidential campaign, but for Ted Cruzs, it just might be.
His strategists arent planning to make a big play for so-called independent voters in the general election if Cruz wins the Republican nomination. According to several of the senators top advisers, Cruz sees a path to victory that relies instead on increasing conservative turnout; attracting votes from groups including Jews, Hispanics, and Millennials that have tended to favor Democrats; and, in the words of one Cruz strategist, not getting killed with independents.
Twenty-three months from the presidential election, it seems all but a given that the freshman senator, who has been in Congress just two years, will mount a bid for the White House...

Yep, send the GOPe to Hades.....
Well, it’s novel. I guess if you have the opinion that 1) pandering to independents hurts you with the base and other voters who might agree with or at least respect you, and 2) “independents” as typically defined are a bunch of wishy-washy know-nothings who don’t pay attention until the week before election day, then this might have a shot.
I don’t like how Fox is slanting this. If there’s a group Cruz tells to GTH it’s those who don’t follow the Constitution.
yep typical bullshit Fox slant lately.....and BTW, Cruz will get indies the way Reagan got them....BY BRINGING THEM TO HIM, not pretending to go to them.
Cruz it or lose it!
“independents” need to be convinced of the superiority of conservative ideas,
not pandered to.
Obama won by expanding the size of his base, not by pandering to the scourge of politics, “Independents”.
Support Ted and he’ll Cruz to victory!
The Cruz strategy is so bad that even Warren is imitating it now. Actually do what you said you would in campaign speeches, what a stupid think to do. Actually be honest with the American people. Silly fools.
Why does the media assume that independents are liberals? Many moderates and independents are conservative on some or most issues and lean conservative on others. After all, conservatives outnumber liberals in this country in every state except Hawaii and the cesspool of liberals, Washington, DC. Conservatism is the dominant philosophy in America, but not in the media or federal politics.
Reagan won two landslide elections with conservatism and by appealing directly to the people. Cruz can do the same.
I tend to place the “independent” voter in the low-information category.
Its Fox...the RINO channel.
Hey Eliana, as opposed to the GOPe strategy as articulate by Mitch McConnell: “To HELL with Conservatives”?
Independents are sheep. They just want a strong leader.
If that doesn’t satisfy Freepers I don’t know what will but somehow I just know there will still be a percentage that STILL won’t be happy.
Reagan thought so.
Reagan was a true conservative. Cruz is a political opportunist with a white silk tie. Enough said!
