When you take a stand on principle in the unprincipled world of Washington, D.C., youre sure to upset a lot of people, as U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz found out Saturday when he forced a vote on the constitutionality of President Obamas overreaching executive order on immigration.
In a move that pitted Cruz in a head-to-head matchup with outgoing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, the Texas senator prevailed in getting a point-of-order vote on whether Obamas action was constitutional, before the Senate passed a massive $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill.
Cruz would lose that vote overwhelmingly 22 to 74 with a majority of his fellow Republicans voting against it. But he made a point conservatives are going to remember.
Before securing the vote, Cruz wrote on his Facebook page:
Harry Reids last act as majority leader is to, once again, act as an enabler for President Obama, by blocking this vote on the presidents amnesty. He is going to an embarrassing length to tie up the floor to obstruct debate and a vote on this issue because he knows amnesty is unpopular with the American people, and he doesnt want the Democrats on the record as supporting it.
And even though he succeeded in forcing the vote, Cruz made it clear he was not looking to shut down the government.
We are only seeking a vote, he wrote. As soon as the majority leader allows a vote on a measure to stop President Obamas amnesty, we can and should move forward on this bill to fund the government.
The Senate was forced to work late into the night because of Cruzs procedural move, and drew criticism from some Republicans....

BUMP!
long game
More generally, any strategy with a long-term goal of gaining the upper-hand. Often used to describe politicians trying to outwit opponents.
We have 22 Senators. The Democrats have 78 Senators, even after an election touted as a tremendous loss for Democrats. It doesn’t look good for the Republic.
power, or its pursuit can go to your head, Cruz is only human.
please understand, I personally think Cruz is the ticket for 2016.
however, the GOPe has been extremely good at losing elections when they should have won.
I hope you’re correct: that Cruz is the conservative we’ve needed for a number of years.
a stogie? inside? what an inconsiderate ^%$%# ! LOL
I know i’ll remember it.
Crapo, Lee, Moran, Paul, Portman, Risch, Rubio, Scott, Sessions, Shelby and Vitter.
Consider them the core Cruz group. Vitter is retiring, but there should be, net, another seven conservatives starting next month. That makes a core group of 11+1+7 = 19. If you add a few lemmings who see the writing on the wall and you aren't far from a majority in the GOP caucus.
Only a vote against CRONYbus cloture counts, not a vote against the bill itself
Very much like the coalescing in 1773-6, except this time the Uniparty is going down hard. Even schoolkids have figured Marxists out (thanks Mooch!), and want no part.
Are the Progressives just going to crawl back into the woodwork, waiting for another 50 years to pass before some movement beckons them out again? Or should we just drop them over the Atlantic.
Very good point Kennard, and with HELP coming in January, I have a little hope with this change.
Though I already spent $19.99 + S/H for my new ‘BLACK FACE’ Avatar from the NRSC, in case it doesn’t work /S
I want everyone to notice that Pat Roberts who was getting so much flak during the primaries and called a RINO, GOPe and everything else voted with Cruz.

I did notice that.
Bingo! That is why they are doing a cram down on this, they needed to do it before they loose their numbers, the conservative ascendency is a tide they Uni-Party is desperately trying to stop to keep the gravy coming from K-Street and keep their power and prolly keep all their relatives employed in the beltway region. Harry Reid's life is not going to be a flippin' nightmare in January, he will be a politically castrated ass clown, but Mitch McConnell's will be.
