When you take a stand on principle in the unprincipled world of Washington, D.C., youre sure to upset a lot of people, as U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz found out Saturday when he forced a vote on the constitutionality of President Obamas overreaching executive order on immigration.
In a move that pitted Cruz in a head-to-head matchup with outgoing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, the Texas senator prevailed in getting a point-of-order vote on whether Obamas action was constitutional, before the Senate passed a massive $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill.
Cruz would lose that vote overwhelmingly 22 to 74 with a majority of his fellow Republicans voting against it. But he made a point conservatives are going to remember.
Before securing the vote, Cruz wrote on his Facebook page:
Harry Reids last act as majority leader is to, once again, act as an enabler for President Obama, by blocking this vote on the presidents amnesty. He is going to an embarrassing length to tie up the floor to obstruct debate and a vote on this issue because he knows amnesty is unpopular with the American people, and he doesnt want the Democrats on the record as supporting it.
And even though he succeeded in forcing the vote, Cruz made it clear he was not looking to shut down the government.
We are only seeking a vote, he wrote. As soon as the majority leader allows a vote on a measure to stop President Obamas amnesty, we can and should move forward on this bill to fund the government.
The Senate was forced to work late into the night because of Cruzs procedural move, and drew criticism from some Republicans....

He is now cemented in as my choice in 2016. If someone can show me a better candidate, let him do so now.
Bravo, Ted. You continue to reveal you are the man for the job of presidency. Pray for this man, folks!

maybe a bunch of us should run for office where we each live with the campaign motto:
I DON’T WANT THIS JOB; BUT I CAN DO IT BETTER THAN _________
WTF!!! Only 22 votes?
IMHO, most of those NO votes had nothing to do w/constitutionality of Obummers ‘Don’t need no stinkin papers’, or spending 1.1T, and an awful lot of those NO’s came in after the Cramnibus was already passed, so that should tell you allot.
The following Senators voted for Cruz’s Point of Order, then voted FOR Cramnibus:
Thune
Vitter (WTF?)
Portman
Risch
Roberts
Grassley
Lee (WTF?)
Fischer
That’s exactly what I was thinking. The time of the vote sometimes matters as much as what their vote actually is. Weasels...
But here are the Repubs who voted WITH Cruz on his motion, but then turned around and voted FOR final passage of cromnibus:
Blunt
Boozman
Burr
Fischer
Hoeven
Isakson
Johanns
Roberts
Thune
If they voted for the cromnibus, that nullifies their vote with Cruz.
OOPs, Sen Lee, my hero voted for Cruz (of course) and AGAINST the Cramnibus.
Ted should declare now and totally disrupt the plans of the GOP-wing of the Democrat party to shove another RINO down our throats.
He has already rented a campaign headquarters in in Houston. It’s happening.
Right, I need more coffee, my list is VERY Incorrect
Ted really IS the smartest guy in the room.
Your list in Post #27 all voted against cromnibus, except for Thune, who voted for.
I want everyone to notice that Pat Roberts who was getting so much flak during the primaries and called a RINO, GOPe and everything else voted with Cruz.
(Now you've got me doing it!)
And he voted for final passage of cromnibus.
SO a majority of republicans think amnesty is constitutional. I want the list
So do I . Also, if you voted Yes, I don’t want to hear any weak knee excuse about “ I had to, the MSM would have, it’s the caring thing “
Cruz accomplished much in getting these votes on the record. He gave us a list. And come 2016, hes expects us to check it twice and find out whos naughty and nice....
And our 2 votes will be doing just that
