Jeb Bush might or might not run for president in 2016. If he runs, he might or might not emerge as a winner. But his formulation for how to think about waging a successful presidential campaign suggests he already is ahead of some of his potential competitors in both parties.
Bush, the former governor of Florida, spoke last week at a Wall Street Journal conference in Washington. In an interview conducted by Jerry Seib, the Journals Washington bureau chief, he said that anyone running for president should be prepared to lose the primary to win the general [election] without violating your principles.
What Bush said is the opposite of the oft-stated idea that presidential candidates run to the left or the right to win their partys presidential nomination and then scamper back to the center as best they can for the general election. That prescription, while sometimes successful, can easily contribute to cynicism among the voters, who watch and wonder whether their politicians have any principles beyond the desire to win at any cost.....

You’re right. The GOPe would rather have big government and more opportunities for graft than to win elections. They see conservatives and Reagnites as their enemy, not Democrats.
I am not voting for any of the establishment liberal republicans. Didn’t the last time so, I know that I am not voting the lesser of two in 2016. To me, this is their last chance to save this country when they were given the huge wins only weeks ago. Everyone should demand for a honest patriotic conservative in 2016, if the nation can make it to then, that is.
The Bush clan is not loyal to any party, not even the GOPe.
They barely even pretend to be Republicans of any stripe but the GOPe are not astute enough to understand this. As the great American, Rev Jesse Jackson said, “Stay out da
Bushes!”I
I don’t really get what he said. How does he think he’s going to win in the general if he loses the primary?
Romney didn’t get 50% or even in hardly any state early in the last race and he still won overall.
I guess Jeb plans it the same way
Like all GOP elites, he’s willing to lose to keep a conservative from winning.
Here is how Jeb Bush wins nomination:
After SC primary is over, No candidate has over 30% delegates.
(Similar to 2012). Some candidates drop out due to lack of money and very few delegates.
Jeb Bush, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Rick Perry, Bobby Jindal, Pence and Walker remain in the race.
After half a dozen more primaries, Paul, Jindal & Pence drop out.
Now only Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Rick Perry & gov Walker remain in the race. Jeb is still well under 50% delegates.
By the time primaries come to west coast, Jeb Bush has the most delegates. Although the others have more combined delegates (similar to 2012).
As the leader in delegates, Jeb Bush is looking more and more like the inevitable winner. Money dries out for others. Jeb Bush wins the nomination!
Lack of unity among the conservatives does it again!
OK, so as you guys are saying Bush only intends to lose SOME of the primaries.
I just think if it is Bush v. Clinton it will be such a betrayal of what this country was founded on. Plus, they are both pretty awful.
We better pick a guy and get behind him. Or her, even.
Main point:
If ONE RINO, Jeb Bush versus 2 or more more conservatives remain in the race after Missouri primary, Jeb wins easily.
The key to some conservative candidate winning nomination is ONE of ONE against Bush. In 2012 Ricky and Newt fought each other to the bitter end, clearing path for RINO Romney.
He is a spoiler candidate.
The big donors are keeping to the sides because we now have the hubris parade of egomaniacs.
