With the GOP poised to take over the Senate and strengthen its control of the House in January, all eyes are now turning to 2016's presidential race. And while Democrats have a single strong contender - paging Hillary Clinton - the Republican side remains up in the air.
The Hill recently listed what 16 possible presidential contenders in what one strategist described as the "most open field we've ever seen."
Here's the likely contenders in the class of 2016:
First String
Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) - One of the most recognizable names in the field, Paul he's comfortable in front of the camera and has the policy chops to back it up. It helps to be seen as a somewhat of an outsider, too.
Gov. Chris Christie (N.J.) - Christie is still a name to be reckoned with even as his image has taken hits from his own home state.
Former Gov. Jeb Bush (Fla.) - There's no better name recognition than "Bush." He has the family legacy on his side, but faces tough questions from GOP stalwarts on his immigration stands....

MIKE PENCE 2016
Rand is weak, and would lose to Hillary.
Ted Cruz would clean her clock, so I go in that direction. Plus I like the guy and he has charisma and charm that Rand Paul is lacking.
....so you know Cruz graduated from Princeton, and then was the top legal mind at Harvard Law School. He is his father’s son and if you look up his father’s history you will know why he is a true conservative and not one to back down. He’s by far the best of the bunch and miles above King Obola....
ymmv
Yes!
I know his history....I am still put off by the Harvard thing. We have had a Harvard or Yale grad in the White House for coming up on 30 years by the time they’re inaugurated. The ENTIRE SCOTUS is Harvard grads... I am uncomfortable with the idea of another one.
At this point I wouldn’t care if they went to Podunk State.... they couldn’t do any worse than the bunch that has been in charge now going on 28 years.
I didn’t say NO to Cruz...just that I am uncomfortable with another Harvard grad.
We need to stick with one conservative only and not split our votes again or Jeb gets the nomination which means another loss to the Democrats for president.
The only one of the bunch who seems at all capable of making any difference would be Rand Paul. That doesn’t mean I’m some sort of big fan of his, but he’s the only one who is anything other than a slightly less enthusiastic Democrat. The others are.
If the GOP establishment does their usual attack on Republican candidates that i like in the primary I WILL NOT vote in the general election.
Long post you made but i agree with you.
as long as it is Ted (or Sarah)
I didn’t find Session’s name there. He is a fighter on illegal immigration and fiscal issues.
You consider Ted Cruz to be a Democrat?
Cruz/Carson.
I hope Huckabee gets exterminated in Iowa.
I don’t think he’s considering a run.
I can only shake my head while floundering in the bog of conservative disbelief.
Doesn't anyone want to WIN any more?

How about “none of the above?”
Dr. Ben Carson 24% (223 votes)
Rand Paul 19.7% (183 votes)
Jeb Bush 12.49% (116 votes)
Mike Huckabee 7.1% (66 votes)
Scott Walker 4.09% (38 votes)
Rick Perry 1.94% (18 votes)
Chris Christie 1.83% (17 votes)
Marco Rubio 0.97% (9 votes)
Total Votes: 929
Ted Cruz, you are the man!!!!!
I am a conservative, not “so called” and I am not pro amnesty. I would very much like to see someone nominated that might reach enough people to be elected.
I like Ted Cruz but he would never be elected by the majority of the country, he is viewed by many as an extremist.
By the way, Rick Perry is not pro amnesty and would secure the border. He seems more a realist to me.
