Former Republican Govs. Mitt Romney, right, and Jeb Bush are formidable presidential contenders, says Bill Weld.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld says Mitt Romney or Jeb Bush would be the GOP's best option for winning back the White House in 2016.
In an interview with U.S. News, Weld name-checked the pair as the potential candidates who "loom larger than the rest of the competition."
I like them both very much," Weld said in a response to a question about his presidential preference. "I'm not saying Scott Walker or Marco Rubio couldn't find a voice. But Romney and Bush seem bigger, loom larger."
Weld's comments come just as Bush's son, George P. Bush, stoked more speculation about his father's political plans on Sunday. He told ABC News Jeb Bush is "giving this a serious thought in moving forward."
Weld, who was a finance chair for Romney's prior two presidential bids, says be believes Bush appears to be moving in the direction of a campaign, pointing to former President George W. Bush's comments earlier this month, saying his brother wants to be president.
"I don't think that sort of thing happens by accident," Weld says....

Between the Schiavo debacle, Common Core, his softness on immigration, and the Bush record on judicial nominees, I really don’t see myself doing flips over another Bush nominee. He’d continue the GOP’s slide into milquetoast meaninglessness. Conservatives need someone who’s willing to go on offense, instead of simply aiming to slow the liberals’ advances.
Even if I lived in a swing state and the Beast were on the ballot opposite him, I’m not sure I’d be able to vote for him. Thankfully, I’m in a deep red state, so I can vote my conscience.
They’ve taken up knitting?
Hieronymous Bosch was one wacky Dutchman, but a fine painter of all that is frenetic and dystopic.
Schmucks like Weld say things like this just to piss off conservatives.
Sick bastards.
I’m tired of the same old names coming up for the Republican candidacy. The Democrats will have had have 8 years of “hope and change” with their young black inexperienced guy. After dealing with that we need a fresh, real conservative, with a go-get-em’ attitude.
Eight more years of Dems, because the job of destroying private health insurance, and especially employee benefits, isn’t complete yet.
That, and importing another 50,000,000 “Americans” who’ll work for Bengali wages for “competitiveness” (with Chinese prison labor and Calcutta slums).... and replace us at work and at the polls.
The term is, “shoo-in”.
Romney took a dive in 2012. He doesn’t need to prove he can do it again.
Jeb Bush murdered Terri Schiavo, a citizen of Florida who was being murdered. He doesn’t need an opportunity to show how many American citizens he can abandon if the going gets tough.
Guys like Weld aren’t even talking to us, when they talk that smack.
We’re proles , we need to go find something useful to do, like holding the door.
And along the way, both would effectively channel individual donations to a select group of political consultants and organizers, boosting local economies through those operatives' enrichment.
What's not to like?
“Larger than the rest.....” Rilly? I mean *Rilly!? *
Well, since nobody else has brought it up, how about Sarah?
The degree to which liberal media emphasize Romney, Bush, Christie, and Rubio is startling. It’s almost as if they don’t want conservatives to win.
And yet they manage to do it year after year.
Let’s see...”Ebola Democrats” or “Amnesty Open-Border Republicrats”...
The GOPe has a DEATH WISH. They are proverbially stoopid.
Yes we do.
A pic of those two wealthy men in an expensive private jet really does not show people who can relate to those who are suffering during this RECESSION/DEPRESSION. Millions without jobs, decent healthcare, and a need to fire those democrat communists who have infiltrated our government that will be left behind when the current criminals leave.
The Loom of Doom!
I don’t know about the rest of you but it will be a cold day in hell when I take political advice from Bill Weld.
