One of the biggest surprises on the midterm campaign trail is hearing President Obama echo President Reagans famous question by asking voters whether you are better off than you were four years ago.
The question is the hammer in Obamas toolbox for nailing down his Democratic majority in the Senate in this years midterm election.
By almost every economic measure, we are better off today than we were when I took office, the president said in a Sept. 19 speech to the Womens Leadership Forum, sponsored by the Democratic National Committee.
Speaking to a Labor Day rally of union workers in Milwaukee, he also pointed to Americas improved economic performance over the last five years. You wouldnt know it from watching the news, he lamented.

Here is a man who on public television declared that he is against guns and does not keep one in his house. Juan Williams is a hapless moron and I am surprised that FOX News keeps him around.
I guess Williams is either delusion or a liar.
famous question by asking voters whether you are better off than you were four years ago.
1. No I am not. I am far worse off then I was.
2. No my State is not better off.
3. No my city/county is not better off.
4. No the United States is not better off.
more people not working then ever before
more people on welfare then ever before
more people working part time or extra jobs then ever before
the healthcare industry devastated (Obamcare) The 3 hospitals in my area have cut back on staff, have hired only part timers and now most are in a hiring freeze.
So NO Mr. Williams I am not better off and I specifically blame President Obama’s bad policies and lack of leadership.
The middle class is swimming against the current but are the poor tubing down the stream sipping the kool-aid while talking on their phones?
He is not talking to me or anyone I know.
lol
Juan thinks this because he is looking at the cooked data coming out of Washington. Out here in the REAL world everyone is STILL hurting real bad and scared about the future.
Yes, the new ‘genteel poor’ class that’s not on any radar screen.
It’s not that the information espoused by hacks like Williams and Colmes is bad news and I don’t want to hear it. They are lying and trying to influence the elections. I don’t believe a word they say. Just like the president. Liars all, and positively pathological about it.
Juan Williams has never nor will he ever be accused of excessive thought. He is the liberal voice on Fox.....sometimes he really has to strain to defend the idiocy of the Kenyan. Remarkably...his son is a conservative.
Good point. If you are on welfare, SNAP, SSI, Obamaphones, etc. the economy has probably never been better for you.
Juan is proof there is no cure for stupid
Juan lives in his own little world full of DemocRAT rainbows, unicorns and bumper stickers.
Juan, put down the crack pipe.
Juan, put down the crack pipe.
Of course, since the Dem’s were so good at it.
“By almost every economic measure, we are better off today than we were when I took office”
By “most”, he must mean “every measure but MrB’s monthly income”.
Gasoline is almost twice as much per gallon as when Obama became President.
more people not working then ever before
more people on welfare then ever before
healthcare industry devastated
All the above are actually considered the “better” in the eyes of a democRat.
Sure Juan, just like Alison campaigning that raising the minimum wage will create jobs.
Yup, we sure are better off!
Oh, our kids and grand-kids NOT SO MUCH!
Obama-Care is a suitcase nuke that is about to go off. They have been suppressing the fallout but it is too late.
The whole plan sucks, will damage the economy.
Housing, education and healthcare, all distorted markets through perverse price mechanisms and huge inefficiencies brought about by the folly of politicians. They only make it worse.
