Bill Kristol: Palin Would Be 'Formidable' Presidential Candidate

Former vice presidential candidate and Alaska Republican Gov. Sarah Palin would prove "formidable" in a 2016 run for president, Weekly Standard Editor Bill Kristol predicted Thursday.

"She's a huge political talent. She has a real populist streak, and a real feel for, sort of, middle America in a way that very few politicians do," Kristol told MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"The truth is, she might be kind of formidable," he added.

Her biggest obstacle, Kristol maintained, would be explaining why she stepped down as Alaska's governor before serving her entire term.

Kristol advised the next Republican nominee to "spend some time talking to her," because she "has a feel for what people out there care about, and a way to formulate things, and she should be part of the conversation."

Kristol revealed a list of his nine top possible Republicans who could vie for the nation's top office. In light of New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie's troubles over the "bridge-gate" scandal, Kristol predicted the Republican establishment would instead rally behind former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

"Jeb Bush will be the establishment candidate," Kristol said. "I think [Chris] Christie's in trouble. I think Jeb is much more likely to run than people have thought. And he will have formidable establishment support."(continued)

After a statement like this, Bill Kristol can no longer be considered the poster child for the neocons.

I’m amazed to hear this from the lips of Bill Kristol.

As for why she stepped down from the governorship, she and her family could no longer afford to pay out hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees because of multiple bogus lawsuits by liberals which were funded by taxpayer dollars.

But before she stepped down, she made sure she had a solid Lieutenant Governor in position to replace her.

She'd be taking more flak than a B-17 over Berlin but if she's in I'm on-board.

It’s Kristol so I don’t think his motives are pure. If he is talking up Palin then it’s a jedi mind trick to get her into the race to help split the Conservative primary votes amongst Cruz, Palin and Paul in order to ensure a jebba the bush victory.

Misleading headline, “might be kind of” is not the same as “would be”. Can you hedge any more?

I think she’ll coordinate with Senator Cruz so that they won’t be running against each other.

Another push for JBush.

As Rush commented today, a recent poll shows that a majority of people still blame the last Bush for the economy.

It has been 6 years now, and the Bush name is still being blamed. THE BUSH NAME IS STILL TOXIC.

Run Jeb or his son and GOP loses.

Really? She explained why already.
Kristol wants Palin to be distracted focusing on something that happened almost 6 years ago!

That's not the way I remember it at all.

Kristol was pushing for Palin way back at the start.

He always has to play the jackass, and throw feints and dodges here and there, but early on he was a Sarah stalwart, believe it or not.

I remember him being on Fox after her convention speech and he was proud as punch.

Below is a clip I dug up. There are plenty of others. This is an insulting piece as regards Palin, but it does point to Kristol as one of if not the earliest Palin supporter.

As the most popular Governor in America, perhaps ever, and as a reformer taking on both parties, Palin was getting noticed by some, before her selection for veep.

Here is a February 2008 Vogue article.

Yes, he did, along with a handful of us freepers that were following her since she got the Governorship in 06'. Kristol might be a RINO and at times, and at times we can't stand him, but maybe just maybe he is looking at the field for 16' and seeing a train wreck between Christie, and Santorum and the Huckster thinking they still have a chance and want to throw their hat in ditto that the warm bowl of Mush Jeb Bush is uggh, gag me on that one.

He's no dummy, we need someone that excites, we tried two dullard's and got our @$$es handed to us, maybe just maybe even he wants to win this time around...

Maybe, he's being honest. I mean, if Conservatives don't trust Kristol, why would they be swayed by this?

I’m tired of establishment GOP pundits..period.

Palin is the most vetted candidate...ever. And right now she is the best thing for America. All I know is this. if Palin doesn’t run, if a Republican wins, Palin needs to be either EPA chief or secretary of the interior.

I can’t even imagine the number of teeth we’re going to have to knock out before that campaign is over.
