Courtesy of one friend, an old pro, three perhaps overlooked points in the sea of analysis of South Carolina and beyond:
I notice that everyones citing all kinds of reasons for S.C.: Romney overconfident, Perry's endorsement, Romney doesn't connect, Barness argument that Romney needs a big idea. Lost in all this it seems is one name: Sarah Palin. First time she has expressed herself in the race and her candidate wins by 12. If she really comes out for Newt, look out.
Second thought: Paul has potential to give Romney lots of trouble in caucus states.
Final point: Some argue that Newt won't play well in Latino parts of Florida. Why? Unless Jeb or Marco go for Mitt, I would argue that Romney's actions on immigration will matter here. Many Florida Latinos vote Republican, and may not like Mitts tone on the issue. As Jeb apparently didnt, for that matter.
I know you folks wish to live in an ECHO CHAMBER...what a boring place that’d be. I’ve posted quotes from Rush with Newt’s own video comments. Are you calling him a liar? I’ve posted videos of Newt’s own statements...are you calling him a liar as well?
For your own pleasure...

I’ll wager you were CHEERING Rush when he said it.
Bye now.
You (by jumping in) and that other poster are the ones who claimed “Free Republic is supporting Newt Gingrich.”
The “edifying” link you sent me does not support that sweeping claim, for the reasons I already set out in detail to you.
Don’t speak for me. Thanks.
P.S. Not to be rude or anything, but it’s a little lame to post a link to someone else’s comment for the purpose of “proving” that “Free Republic supports Newt Gingrich,” then refusing to explain why or how you thought the comment you linked to “proved” your point.
If you don’t know or are not sure what the owner was talking about when he made his comment, I think it’d be wise not to try to use his words, basically, as your own reply.
“The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally not a 20 percent traitor.” - George Washington
I have yet to determine if Newt is above or below that 80%, but many of his supporters are certainly falling short.
That has NOTHING to do with "speaking" for you.
EXACTLY! I have absolutely had it with these LESSOR Americans who think of themselves as something other than Americans.
A hyphenated American will always, and should always be lessor a American and they prove with their own self description they do not want to be part of AMERICA.
If your hyphenated culture is so damned great, PLEASE, go the hell back we do not need you and would do much better without you.
On the other hand we have many immigrants who have managed to learn English even when their own alphabet is 100% different than ours. These are REAL Americans as they do their best to become part of the experience not DEMAND we learn their language and culture or sit on their butts for multiple generations screaming discrimination yet doing nothing but stay on the democrap plantation.
You’re welcome.
Oh, please.
There's clearly a conjunction in that sentence, isn't there, meaning that there are, um, TWO separate sentences connected by the word "and."
I was clearly addressing the first sentence, which stands on its own. Which is what the conjunction "and" indicates.
The first sentence does attempt to speak for me, for the reasons I have already set out. That is all.
In fact, in my original reply to onyx, I only copied the first sentence as the quote to which I was responding. So please don't try to spin my objection to her statement into something else. I wasn't objecting to her "complete statement." I was objecting to one, stand-alone sentence, which I made clear by quoting back to her only that one, stand-alone sentence.
What I objected to was the blanket statement that "Free Republic is supporting Newt Gingrich," and I clearly stated that that was the sentence, and the only sentence, I found unfounded.
Then you posted something that you now explain goes to the SECOND sentence. You completely ignored the distinction I was drawing between "not letting posters tear Gingrich down" and "Free Republic supports Newt Gingrich."
Saying "Free Republic supports Newt Gingrich" obviously is an attempt, and a wrong one, to speak for me. Please don't.
If you'd like to discuss what it means to "tear down Newt," -- a separate issue from "Free Republic supports Newt" -- then let's do so. That's why I asked you, for example, your definition of "trashing" a candidate. I asked, for example, are you claiming one can only praise Newt Gingrich?
You didn't answer.
I have the greatest respect for the Italian people because they came to America(heck, the country is named after one!) and they made sure they learned English and even went to night school to learn and made sure their children did. I’m fifty-five years old and never once in my life did I ever hear any American of Italian extraction demand that the rest of us learn Italian. The same is true of Poles, Germans or any other ethnic group. Only those from Spanish-speaking countries insist on this. Those immigrants who refuse to learn English demand we learn Spanish and yet they come for a ‘’better life’’ in a currency printed in English. A nations currency is a nations language and ours is printed in English, LEARN IT!!. And there is no ‘’ para Espanol a Prima numero dos’’ in the Constitution or The Bill of Rights. Thanks for your reply.
Nice that Billy Kristol and the LSM put largely white Cuban Americans in the same category with Mexicans, etc. why the need to pigeonhole d-bag?
Wow!, God bless you friend. I’ve never heard that from a black person before.
I'm officially endorsing Newt Gingrich for President today.
I asked, for example, are you claiming one can only praise Newt Gingrich?
You didn't answer.
I most certainly did. I gave you the owners quote. You have a problem with it, address him.
You'd be surprised how many of us disagree with the 'African-American' label.
My ancestry spans Native America, Africa, and the British Isles, but for all intents and purposes, I'm black. So damn what. What's more important, is where my allegiance as a man lies - and that is to this country - America.
Perhaps I was fortunate, in that my parents taught me to be a Bell first, an American second, and a member of the black race a distant third. That always made sense to me as a child, and makes even more sense after half a century.
Why are you arguing about semantics.
The statement that "Free Republic supports Newt Gingrich" could mean that the ownership of Free Republic supports Newt.
Well God Bless them too. Funny, like any of us get to choose our skin color, right? And yet so many are hung up on it. I was taught pretty much the same as you. Yeah, Ireland , big whoop. My people left there a long time ago and I was always told that I’m an American. And that’s what I am and will be till the day I die.
Unfortunately that’s what I recall him saying as well. There simply isn’t anyone in the GOP who intends to enforce the law. They are all in the image of Dubya, our first illegal alien President.
And my Scottish ancestors originally emigrated there from Ireland - then wound up passing back through Ireland on their way to America.
It's all very fascinating, and gives one a sense of belonging in the historical time stream, but that's it. None of it has any bearing on where, and who one is in the present lifetime.
I'm an American by birth, upbringing, and culture. I can honor my ancestors' origins, but I don't come from the same place they did. America is my only home.
