Gingrich takes lead nationally (Herman Cain in close 2nd, Milt distant third)
Public Policy Polling ^ | November 14, 2011 | Tom Jensen

Raleigh, N.C. – Newt Gingrich has taken the lead in PPP's national polling. He's at 28% to 25% for Herman Cain and 18% for Mitt Romney. The rest of the Republican field is increasingly looking like a bunch of also rans: Rick Perry is at 6%, Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul at 5%, Jon Huntsman at 3%, and Gary Johnson and Rick Santorum each at 1%.

Compared to a month ago Gingrich is up 13 points, while Cain has dropped by 5 points and Romney has gone down by 4. Although a fair amount of skepticism remains about the recent allegations against Cain there is no doubt they are taking a toll on his image his net favorability is down 25 points over the last month from +51 (66/15) to only +26 (57/31).

What is perhaps a little more surprising is that Romney's favorability is at a 6 month low in our polling too with only 48% of voters seeing him favorably to 39% with a negative opinion.

There's reason to think that if Cain continues to fade, Gingrich will continue to gain.

Among Cain's supporters 73% have a favorable opinion of Gingrich to only 21% with a negative one. That compares to a 33/55 spread for Romney with Cain voters and a 32/53 one for Perry.

Cain's continuing to benefit from doubts about whether the allegations against him are true- 54% of primary voters think they are 'mostly false' to only 24 who believe they are 'mostly true.'

Painting himself as a victim of the media is proving to be a good strategy for Cain so far- 61% think it has been 'mostly unfair' to him compared to 26% who say it has been 'mostly fair.'(continued)

The thing is that now Gingrich will have a full vetting. And people will not like what they see when the old Gingrich comes to full light.

2. Policy flip flops
3. “The Era of Reagan is Over”

I’m not happy about him leading the polls, either. Is Bob Dole still alive? LOL

That sound you hear is the high-fiving from DNC Headquarters.

“The thing is that now Gingrich will have a full vetting. And people will not like what they see when the old Gingrich comes to full light.”

And then it will be off to find yet another candidate that isn’t Romney. Another flavor of the week :/

I just started following his campaign on Twitter. Considering that one of his Newt2012HQ accounts is hispanic, I think he should be asked about whether he supports english as the official language of the USA.

1. Who cares
2. Sounds like he’s flipping the right way
3. Meaningless
4. Who cares

I’ll take any of that over RomnyCare, Amnesty or a 9% sales tax

Well, since all candidates have their warts, including Romney, I guess we’ll now have to choose who among our flawed (i.e. HUMAN) candidates we think best expresses our values, meets the constitutional requirements and can beat 0bama.

It’s time for Newt to get kicked off the top of the mountain. One thing that remains consistent is Romney’s failure to do any better.

It is time for the single digit percenters to fold their tents and go home. They are only hurting the GOP’s chances of winning. Gingrich has too much bad baggae, log onto dougurbanskishow.com and see if the Gingrich videos are still available. We don’t need no more stinkn’ career politicians in the Oval office! Unfortunately we have a new crop of young voters who do not have the facrs in order to vote intelligently.

We’re #1.

First, it was Palin.
Then, Trump.
Romney.
Bachmann.
Perry.
Cain.
Now, Gingrich.

It seems the GOP are throwing all the names against the wall to see which one might stick long enough to meet and greet Obama next fall.

So, if Gingrich can’t maintain, who will become the next flavor of the week?

[Hey, Santorum, Huntsman, start warming up. You could be next.]

Yeah, let’s start the tar and feathering of Gingrich. The MSM will so why not the conservatives.

1. The public - if Cain can be brought down by innuendo imagine what they can do to Newt.

2. Supposedly Romney has flipped the “right” way too.

3. Why did he say the era of Reagan is over? If he believes the “era of Reagan” is over does he also believe the era of the Constitution is over, especially since he’s the president who adhered most closely to it’s principles in modern history.

4. Deede Scosaffasa is a big deal. He had a chance to support the more conservative candidate in a situation where the elites ONCE AGAIN tried to pick our candidate (ironically they’re doing the same thing now). He went along with the establishment. This wasn’t so long ago. This makes me question his allegiance...is it to conservatives or the status quo.

I’d love to see a Cain-Gingrich ticket. I’d actually like to see Cain at the top of the ticket because he’s SO inspirational (like Reagan) and Newt has the policy knowledge (helpful in the Senate) but doesn’t have the personal charisma to help change the national mood and convince the masses of the practicality of the administration’s policies. But I’d take a Gingrich-Cain ticket as well. But to think Gingrich isn’t going to get the same (or worse because he has more baggage) treatment as Cain is fooling themselves. He slinked off before. I hope to God he doesn’t but his history is more solid and well known than Cain. We’ve got to stop eating our own.

None of this means anything to me either. Neither do the Cain smears. But it WILL mean something to everyone else. Hello Romney. Welcome to another 4 years, 0bama. All he has to do is compare himself to Romney. They’ve got some of the same policies. Only he can be painted to be pro Crony Capitalism too. Better not change horses mid stream.

This is the thing. Newt starts getting trashed with his excess baggage asap. Cain out, Bachmann out, Santorum and Huntsman should be out because they never flew, Perry, still in but seen as a dummy dolt.

Once Newt gets the heat, he punts to Romney.

Story over. Didn’t even need a primary.

Good job conservatives. This is why no great conservative will run. We won’t pick one, stick with one and the MSM be damned. Nobody is perfect enough and none of them can fight the smears because we always ditch them for the next guy.
