A Questioning Look at Herman Cain
momenomics ^ | October 12, 2011 | Elizabeth

Posted on 10/13/2011 7:36:43 AM PDT by MomEnomics

Let me start out by saying that I like Herman Cain. I think his story is inspiring, I think he is a great orator, and I like (in some ways) that he isn't a career politician. However, the more I learn about Herman Cain and his 9-9-9 plan the less I want him to be the President of the United States.

Although, I like the "idea" of having a non-politician as our leader, in many ways it bothers me that he has no elected official record. Politics is a nasty business and if someone has never experienced it and we have no record of how that person would react under pressure, it is more than a little disconcerting. Washington and politics changes people. How many times have you seen a freshman congressman or senator go into his first year with high ideals and great ideas only to come out exactly the same as every other politician? There are politicians who have been able to stick to their principles but many times we don't know what will happen with these politicians until they have been in office for several years and here we are wanting to give the highest office in the land to a man who has NO record. Not a local record, not a state record, and certainly not a national record. All we have are his words and as we already know talk is cheap.

On the other hand, you would have to get up pretty early in the morning to trick Newt ...

World Trade Organization supporting Newt?
Most Favored Nation Status for China Newt?
Global Warming Snuggles with Nancy Newt?
Member of the Council on Foreign Relations Newt?
Sabotaged the Clinton impeachment to cover his own infidelity Newt?

By get up pretty early you mean mid afternoon, right?

I think turning around a business that has a 100 franchises or so is evidence of a certain level of competence, yes.

I think there are other qualities. If Cain was a drunk or womanizer or something that indicated that he may be unfit for office, it would have likely filtered out to the media by now and it would have been mentioned.

For example, even when Clinton was first running for president the public knew, despite a near-media blackout, that he was a womanizer.

And as the CEO of the federal government, it’s mostly his ability to pick competent people that will determine his success as president.

We all know Obama’s ability on that matter, don’t we. :)

Newt was not tricked with these stances. He’s a trickster himself.

He is not a conservative except when it is time for the “conservative” professor to put on a show for conservative votes.

He’s a citizen of the world and his ideology is globalism’s “third way.” He throws in with the elitist traitors every chance he gets. He is not tricked.

” - - - I think I would have an easier time accepting his words if he could actually stick to those words but not only has he flip flopped numerous times - I would say he has outright lied in some instances.

These are just two examples (there are others) of Herman Cain saying one thing and then changing his story, whether it was because he wasn’t knowledgeable enough to understand the question and he didn’t want to sound stupid or because political pressure was applied, he changed his story and sometimes within a very short time. - - - “

Hi MomE. Above is a direct copy of a part of your article.

Note the gap between the upper and lower parts of your text. That gap is where you stopped writing and inserted TVspeak clips.

Yep, you just can’t bring yourself to write the words that you can be held to, now can you?

No, No, NOT Mommy E! You rely on the smoke-and-mirror sound bites of our sorry, tabloid, pop-culture “main-stream-media” to help us “feel” your point.

You can run, but you cannot hide here at FR.

If you are going to make a point on FR, then, at a minimum, have the courage to put it into words that YOU can defend. Got it?

BTW, we at FR love to have reasoned DIALOG, so adding a rational viewpoint would be a refreshing touch to any future articles that you may choose to post here on FR.

BTW, BTW, are you into numerology? Come on! It is fun! Watch: 9 + 9 + 9 = 27. Then: 2 + 7 = 9.

BTW, BTW, BTW, a Nine out of Ten is what I now give Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 Tax EVERYBODY Plan. I’ll give him a Ten once 9-9-9 becomes the law of the land.

I think the real opposition to Cain amongst certain FReepers has less to do with positions and more to do with skin.

That is a pigment of your imagination!

This FReeper didn't have a problem with the color of his skin until he made an issue about the color of his skin! Personality wise, I like him...that he brings some humor to this mess!

But now that you mention it, how many FReepers would be giving him the time of day if not for the color of his skin?

Is he being held to a different standard?

I can think of a lot of Blacks who are a lot more, accomplished and conservative, than Herman Cain.

He is not experienced POTUS material, IMO. He has run for office before and didn't get to first base. Why now? Huh? Huh? Is he being used?

And to think they call liberals nasty and foul mouthed. :o) If you don’t want to go to my blog to read the post then don’t but it does give you the option to have an excerpt from the blog so if that is a crime so be it but I will wait to hear from the people who actually run the site. Thanks for your kind comments.

I’ll look at it.

I’m not personally expecting perfect Conservatives, because I’m not perfectly conservative in everything, (and neither are you :) )

But I do want somebody sincerely so.

Name 'em.

Are you serious?

Thomas Sowell

Condoleeza Rice

Wallace Jefferson

Ken Blackwell

J.C. Watts

Armstrong Williams

to name a few off the top of my head. I'm sure there are a lot more!

“...we have no record of how that person would react under pressure,...” Of course, the role of CEO in the private sector doesn’t involve any sort of pressure. Climbing to the top of the heap doesn’t require political astuteness. I usually express appreciation for my first lol of the day in PM, but....

OK, let’s look at them.

Thomas Sowell <—Good man, but way too old (82 next year)

Condoleeza Rice <—Regarded as a RINO. Not very popular amongst the Conservative base, questions about her sexuality.

Wallace Jefferson <—Texas Jurist.

Ken Blackwell <—Good man, I considered him a top contender for RNC Chairman. Unfortunately, had a disastrous showing in the OH Governor’s race.

J.C. Watts <—Somewhat unreliable who has been out of the spotlight for awhile, made comments favorable to supporting Zero.

Armstrong Williams <—Talkshow host, no particular problems.

However, since none of these individuals are running for President, Cain is the best candidate running.

Was that really necessary? MomEnomics is a newbie who’s been here all of one month. Why not cut her some slack and explain the ‘blog pimping’ thing to her before resorting to public ridicule?

Looked at it myself...also followed his link to his blog where he ended up in a prolonged discussion with 2 others.

Although more research is needed - such as official profit/loss statements and the like...it does take us back to debate night...where myself and a few other Freepers pointed out the obvious:

Cain lied about his flip-flop on the Fed when addressed about it by Ron Paul.

That raises questions...this concern lends more.

Cain being part of the fed, at state level, doesn’t concern me because it’s a different animal then the Fed at the national level.

All the state fed does, as I understand it, is to ensure that banks have liquidity for their daily business. It doesn’t set policy of any kind.

Well, funny you should ask about a word from our sponsors, erh, Jim Thompson's cousin:

Jim Rob on bloggers:

"I have no complaint if a good conservative blogger posts his own material to FR, not as an excerpt to drive hits and discussion back to his blog, but rather to impart useful information to OUR readers and to promote and join in on the discussion and conservative activism HERE on FR.

If a blogger can’t or refuses do that, and if he constantly complains or fights with our participants over it, then I’d just as soon he doesn’t post here.

It’s not my job to make his content or his presentation or cooperation acceptable to our readers.

That’s his job.

And if he cannot do it or refuses to do it and continues posting brief excerpts only and obviously attempting to draw away our participants while loudly complaining about it, then I have no sympathy for his complaints and the more apt I am to ban his account and blog.
