Occasionally Democrats and establishment Republicans form an uneasy alliance to smack down a political interloper.
The best example of this in recent history was the destruction of Sarah Plain as a political entity. As the Democrats were making hay of every verbal gaffe Ms. Palin made, while ignoring the 57 states of Barack Obamas America, establishment Republicans were whispering to their Democratic party friends that Palin wasnt a true Republican. Wed never choose her!, was the mantra.
You see, Republican leaders like Karl Rove and others want GOP candidates to be described using six letters only: b-o-r-i-n-g. Rove in particular has been very anti-Palin and has called Donald Trump a joke candidate. Karl Rove was simply an assistant to George Bush, no political sage he, yet every time he goes on TV and knocks Republicans he helps the Democrats. If Rove were smart, he would see the value of a Trump or Palin to the Republican brand. America isnt a Tom Clancy novel. No one gave that message to Karl Rove. Folks like Palin and Trump are fearless, and rarely, if ever, back down from external pressures. Both would potentially add spice to a very bland field of candidates. Slings and arrows roll off their backs, much like the fabled Teflon President. Perhaps you recall Ronald Reagan? He confounded the 80′s era Democrats at every turn, and thats what got him a nickname meant to insult him. He reputedly loved it.
The Democratic party has no trouble getting behind dynamic, if unproven, candidates. Take Barack Obama. The President had no real executive experience, was on tape saying he isnt ready for the job of President, had a questionable past including ties to domestic agitator and terrorist Bill Ayers and a foul-mouthed reverend. So what? The party brass basically said, The guy has a great smile, gives a killer speech and is African-American and he is going to win. They were right. The power of positive thinking. Fast forward two years later and thousands of party faithful (many former Hillary devotees) are screaming Obama! Obama! over and over again.
Put Palin and Trump through the same filter. Trump has baggage, but he is on all three major networks all but calling Obama a Kenyan and getting away with it. How can you ignore that? The man has chutzpah. That counts.
Trump also has a lot of negatives. Instead of focusing on the positive, GOP politicos and opinion makers fear the negative. Sure, Democrats will attempt to drag him through the mud. But no matter who runs, they will do that. People with no skeletons in the closet are pretty bland. There may not be any pictures of Tim Pawlenty partying with naked cheerleaders in Mexico on file at DNC headquarters, but he also isnt getting anyone excited about his candidacy. Palin is bold and you can find photos of her unashamedly wielding guns and Donald Trump is, well. . . Donald Trump. Both have self-acknowledged defects of character, but they get people excited. And both would scare most of the world with their shoot-from-the-hip styles. The last time we had someone like that the Berlin Wall fell.
Democrats never worry about this kind of thing. They are completely loyal to one another. Look at Hillary Clinton. She loses a nomination that should have been hers by right and probably would have been if Obama was right when he misspoke and claimed that the country had 57 states. Did she go rogue? Did she pout? (Well, Bill did for a hot minute). She kept her mouth quiet and supported Obama and was appointed Secretary of State because of it. The Republican party has no such loyalty in its ranks.
Somehow, the press that leans left has been loathe to knock Trump. He has the Democrats and the Karl Roves of the Republican party terrified. The last thing the President needs is a Republican nominee who believes in himself and is shameless in the face of criticism. The last thing Karl Rove needs is a thrice-married New Yorker with cojones of steel ruining his fund-raising efforts.
I have no direct evidence of this, but internal polls probably show that the uber-conservatives within the GOP want a stable, Christian, white male at the top of the Republican ticket. Im kidding, of course, as I dont need a poll for that! That is what they always want. Trump and Palin dont meet that standard. The right-wing controls the money within the party. Theyd rather see Romney stumble over health care because he has the right values (and look) than watch Donald Trump blossom into a strong candidate. The party wants the donors happy. Thats not a swing vote. Thats a safe vote, guys. Wake up!
Obama will be tough to beat under all but the most unlikely circumstances. I refer, of course, to a scandal which would make the Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers and 57 states-type gaffes look like nothing. Now what could that be? Trump is certainly working to find one, unlike the party.
Unless the Republican party grows up and allows other voices a seat at the table, Obama will be President until 2016. Knowing the GOP as I do, Ill get it out there now and wish Obama a good second term.
Beltway insiders are scrambling to find another loser to oppose Obama. The want someone like John McCain but not with so much enthusiasm.
Obama's trick wasn't his smile, dynamic personality, charisma, etc. He Had The Big Bucks First.
The Democrats take a big chance following after the guys with the campaign financing all lined up and they usually lose. This time they didn't.
Trump came into the game with a whole lot more baggage than Palin. Sarah’s fall was entirely engineered by a hostile media and democrat treachery. Far more people know about Trump.... and what people see, they don’t like.
Trump needs to get lost. He is simply not serious enough to be President, plus he is a caricature of himself. He is totally unelectable. If he runs, GOP or third party, 0 will get an easy second term. I hope that’s not his actual plan.
Sarah Palin is our best hope to get a real conservative, patriotic LEADER in the White House. Let’s put all our energy into getting her elected!
Palin ‘12!
The GOP is killing itself. The self-destruction is amazing to watch. They are going the way of the Whigs. The Tea Party saved them temporarily and the first thing they do is insult and trash the Tea Party. They are Psuedocrats.
The GOP establishment never supported her post-2008 loss.
I predict Rove will soon trot out Jeb Bush.
Nothing I can disagree with here. Karl Rove is a backstabbing bastard and needs to find a new hobby. I don’t know why anyone gives him the time of day.
The pathological unwillingness to “share” power with anyone not vetted by the “inside the beltway” power elite has been a factor of American political life since the 1800s. Back then the established political factions had different names but the drive was still the same - key the power divided up any people like us and keep the rabble out of politics.
Andrew Jackson comes to mind as one of the first Presidents where you saw this political thought. Ronald Regan comes to mind as probably the last President where you clearly saw this political thought (read about him circa 1975 - 1977).
This policy of excluding the unwashed, smelly, rabble is effective as long as the rabble is divided. That internal division is something that the T.E.A. party is countering and explains why the established power elite are so opposed to it too.
I'm starting to use the 'Reverse-Rove-Litmus-Test'. If he attacks one of our side, then I'm all for them.
Guess I'd have to agree with him on that one.
everybody is entitled to their opinion and i agree with and respect that but personally i don’t understand comments like “trump needs to get lost” and “he’s unelectable”, etc. these comments are exactly like what rove, coulter and krauthammer make and seems quite suspicious, almost as if they’re coming from a dem posing as a conservative.
another comment which i don’t understand is when people say to let trump go out and confront obama and they think that’s great but then add that they would never vote for him. why would someone want to use him in that way. let him do the dirty work then have some RINO come along a reap the benefits? is that fair?
people who say they are waiting for a “real” conservative to vote for are living in a dream world. the present line-up of republicans is what it is. there isn’t going to be any “real” conservative who will appear out of nowhere. trump is in obama’s face at every turn and will hopefully have proof to backup his assertions about the BC. the heir apparent romney runs and hides and when he does show his face, he tiptoes around every controversial issue, so as not to OFFEND obama or the dems or because he doesn’t want any of the MSM idiots to say anything bad about him.
let’s face it, if you want to talk about unelectable, just look to newt, romney, barbour, et al.
i’m a big fan of representative bachman but was disappointed when she said the BC issue was a “distraction.” same for palin, i couldn’t believe it when she also said that the country needs to stop wasting time addressing the BC issue.
in summary, trump is the only prospective candidate who’s willing to be right up in obama’s face and tell him.
IF TRUMP IS DENIED THE NOMINATION, I WILL NOT VOTE AT ALL.
rinos rove and perino
promote “established” politicians on fox noos.
The Donald is a fake, a godless, big-government, bankrupted businessman trying to pull conservative votes; my guess is this is in order to elect The Willard.
Too silly to be worth commenting on.
“Sarahs fall was entirely engineered by a hostile media and democrat treachery.”
You’re correct in a way you might not realize.
Sarah’s “fall” was engineered by the democrat media, and just like everything else out of them, it never really happened.
