Sarah Palin leaves N.H. out in cold for now
The Boston Herald ^ | December 1, 2010 | Katy Jordan

Sarah Palin may be a media phenom, but disgruntled New Hampshire Republican leaders are still waiting to learn when the top GOP contender will visit the key primary state.

“Several groups have asked her to come, but she’s playing it cool,” said Diane Bitter, chairwoman of the Rye Republican Town Committee. “Last year we were told that she wouldn’t come, and recently people have gotten the same response.”

The first state in the nation to hold a presidential primary, New Hampshire is already seeing GOP presidential hopefuls canvass the state. Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, U.S. Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty all have visited in recent months, and Mitt Romney — who owns a vacation home in Wolfeboro — is a frequent glad-hander and fund-raiser in the state.

Palin, meanwhile, has repeatedly ignored requests for appearances, according to town committee leaders.

“A lot of people are surprised Palin hasn’t made a visit or contact,” said Manchester GOP chairman Cliff Hurst. “Maybe she’s getting enough press as it is.”

“If she’s running for president, she’s doing it in a different way, that we know,” said Dennis Hogan, Nashua GOP chairman, adding, “but different sometimes works.”

As the Herald reported yesterday, the former Alaska governor has overshadowed Romney with a bestselling book, a hit reality show, and regular appearances on Fox News.

But analysts warn if Palin intends to skip Main Street meet-and-greets in favor of TV and Twitter, she may miss out on Granite State votes.

“I get the impression that (Palin) is generally more interested in running a media-based campaign, rather than a grassroots campaign,” said Jennifer Lucas, assistant professor of politics at St. Anselm College in Manchester. “Here in New Hampshire, there’s no evidence that works.”

>>laugh all you can now because you won’t be laughing in 24 months.<<

A national election is quite different from a local one.

I really wish for Mrs. Palin to succeed. But in almost any election scenario I can foresee, she merely draws from any good conservative candidate (assume we can find one).

I can understand concern over her electability, and to a certain extent over her education, even though allowance must be made for the fact that she worked her way through school on her own.

But the “quitter” label is unfair. If she had stayed in office, she would have been driven into personal bankruptcy by the Alinskyite scorched-earth tactics of the Democrats. The government of Alaska would have become a daily carnival sideshow. I think she made the best choice from a limited set of options.

Reagan had a couple of beauts for kids, and a couple of good ones, the kids that were idiots didn’t hurt him a bit but the left loved to take them under their wings to get dirt and garbage from them...it reflected on them not Reagan..

I didn't think of her as being a quitter, she made the best of a bad situation...The term quitter came directly from the left and MSM. I consider anyone that still calls her that a lefty through and through..

Your right, it is not only unfair, it shows a shallow way of thinking..

If I recall, Hogan’s Heros was well received in Germany.

>>I knew you were a 2010 sign-up before I even looked. <<

Not I — this isn’t about what we want (in my perfect Universe, Mrs. Palin takes her ideals to the White House.

But when Reality comes a’calling, she just can’t make the grade to be a viable POTUS candidate. Worse, still, she makes her supporters look silly (and thus marginalized) and so freezes the possibilities of tossing out the TOTUS-reader.

Therein lies the danger to us all.

t doesn’t matter what WE think -— it is how Joe and Jane Sixpack think.

As with so many, you confuse desire with outcome.

Your reality seems to be out of step with both the polls and the mood of the American people as registered by the last election. With a few exceptions the Tea Party had amazing success, especially Sarah's picks. That bodes very well for Sarah herself.

What do you base your reality on?

Well, then I’ll revise my statement...now I know somebody who’s for Newt.

IMO, Newt had his day and he did good, but he’s strayed in more ways than one in recent years.

I have problems with his politics but I also have major problems with his personal life, and believe someone’s personal life tells a lot about them.

As well it should be. Political calculus is not for the faint of heart.

It is;t about what we want — it is about what we can accomplish.

Reality.

Wishful thinking doesn’t get us much.

Reality. Wishful thinking doesn’t get us much.

Generally one doesn't define reality by using the word "reality." One looks for examples, proofs, links, explanations, you know, that kind of thing.

That's what I was expecting, anyway. Otherwise I just think you're wasting time fooling around here and are not to be taken seriously.

Mrs. Palin is damaged goods. Her original comments out of the starting gate looked and sounded ridiculous to the American public.

Her subsequent strident posture has energized he Conservative base, but has probably sent most middle-thinking Independents scurrying away.

Your blindness to the political reality is is what should not be taken seriously.

Wishful thinking is always a bad strategy and, given the evil in the White House now, is downright dangerous.

Take the tint off of your rose-colored glasses and join us in the real world.

I haven't stated my position yet. I quoted measurable polls and the political momentum of the Tea Party and asked you what you based your political "reality" on.

You haven't answered the question yet. You've just restated your groundless opinions. I already know what your groundless opinions are. I'm interested in why you think they're true.

>>>>>As with so many, you confuse desire with outcome.>>>>

I don't confuse desire with outcome as I have not stated at any time who I think is the best candidate...Its still too far out from the elections to start putting any investment in any particular candidate..

My comment was on those that use the *quitter* comment based on Palins decision to leave the governorship...especially based on knowing nothing about the truth of the shots she was taking and how her finances were...

Like her or not, name recognition is important in politics. She sure got that now. Could be good or bad, depends on how the game plays out, but if she were a quitter she would be living quietly in her beautiful Alaska...

Instead she is kicking rino ass all over the country...Maybe that's why some call her quitter, because she is anything but that...that's all they have against her....

Semantics doesn't really mean much. Your are not so clever as you think you are.

I have not just restated my positions -- I have provided logic and analysis behind them.

If you can't discern that there is nothing I can do for you.

Yet that yoke lies upon her neck. Truth means nothing in politics — perception is the currency and the coin of the realm.

You are a concern troll. I can discern that much.

You have nothing positive to say.

You are a waste of bandwidth.

Too bad. Coulda been better.
