Ahead of his meeting with the Republican leaders this week, President Obama today warned them the era of just-say-no is over.
The GOP opposed nearly every initiative Obama and the Democrats offered and sometimes passed over the last two years.
The were so successful at casting those policies as job-killing bailouts that were deadly to the economy that voters on election day still believed by a two-to-one margin that the economy was shrinking, bailouts were ongoing and their taxes were going up even though the opposite was true.
With the GOP gaining greater say in the Senate and taking over the House, Obama thinks theyll have to play the game differently over the next two years.
Campaigning is different than governing, Obama told reporters as he flew home from his 10-day Asia trip this afternoon, suggesting Republicans will walk back some of their more adamant rhetoric in coming days as they take stock of reality.
They are flush with victory after a campaign of just saying no, Obama said. But Im sure the American people did not vote for more gridlock.
Still, on the Sunday shows today members of the GOP did not sound in a very compromising mood yet unless the President wants to start on their side of the issues.
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), a favorite of the Tea Party crowd, signaled he would not accept a Democratic compromise of extending some of the Bush-era tax cuts those for the middle class.
But he said hed be willing to talk if the President is at least offering a temporary extension of all tax cuts, including for the wealthy.
I think if he can work on our side of the ledger, I think we might can work together, DeMint said on Fox News Sunday.
It’s only *now* that the GOP has the power to say “No” at all.
“...Im sure the American people did not vote for more gridlock.
Right, and when the election comes around we will vote in a president FOR the USA and people will not have to vote against the communist takeover, otherwise known as ‘no gridlock’.
won on “no”
don’t want gridlock
It only become a gridlock if OBama say no
Yep! Hardened in wrongdoing or wickedness.
Obdurate is a very appropriate word for _resident Zero.
Well, don't forget, there were also outside forces. Palin and most all of the Republican "leadership" got behind him and pushed hard.
Someone must have fed him that line because HE certainly doesn't behave as if he recognizes any difference!
Dems controlled the executive branch and both houses of Congress! What gridlock is he describing and to whom does he ascribe said gridlock?
his days of warning republicans are over . . .
Thanks. Great word.
Other words applicable to His Obamaness,.....fake, fraud, phony, traitor, Manchurian POTUS, pathetic sissy butt boy, coward, POS, putz, schmuck, liar,........the list is endless.
This from the man who just had his political head handed to him and claimed that he wads "anxious" to work with Republicans. Expect more of the same-old, same-old!!
Holy crap! Was this article written by the DNC?

“...the era of just-say-no is over”
Welcome to the “hell no” era.
Just this: "Who creates the employment in this country, the welfare class or the 'wealthy'?"
Just so all the dummies get it.

What right does he have to “warn” them about anything? He was out of line.
He’s right, the American people didn’t vote for gridlock, They voted for REVERSE, then turn right, hard.
Somewhat. The biggest problem with Arizona is the open primaries.
LLS
excellent- bumper sticker material!
