Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, the only Republican U.S. Senate candidate in the state who could afford a significant television advertising campaign, has opened up a 15-point lead over her nearest opponent just days before Tuesday's primary, according to a Field Poll released today.
The first-time candidate, who campaigned up and down the state and was endorsed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has the support of 37 percent of voters compared with 22 percent for former South Bay Rep. Tom Campbell - who led Fiorina by six points in a Field Poll in March.
Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, R-Irvine, more than doubled his support since March to 19 percent, but remained in third place, according to the poll.
Still, 20 percent of the likely GOP primary voters surveyed remained undecided - the largest group being voters under 40, who favor Campbell slightly over Fiorina.
Fiorina, who received $21 million from HP when the company fired her in 2005, has put $5.5 million of her own money into the race. Her personal wealth, coupled with her opponents' inability to raise enough money to compete, made a huge difference, analysts say.
From Jan. 1 to May 19, Fiorina spent $6.7 million to Campbell's $1.6 million and DeVore's $2 million, according to campaign finance records.
Fiorina's cash advantage enabled her to have TV commercials on the air since April 8 - and her overall support in the Field Poll increased from 22 percent in March.(continued)

I am not a big fan of Carly’s.but I do want to see Boxer go down. Whomever would best do that would get my vote if I lived in CA.
The idiots who are saying they would vote for Boxer over Carly are the very same “purists” who wouldn’t vote for McCain, and gave us the Obamamessiah.
My view is we start voting for who we want, not who we will settle for. In one or two elections, the GOP will get the message.
I respectfully disagree.
If we vote for GOP candidates that cannot beat Democrats, we will have a repeat of 2008. We don’t have a few more years to change the balance.
Can we afford to risk another filibuster/veto proof Congress? Another term for BHO? I think not.
BTW I agree about Carly’s mismanagement of HP. Boxer is an outstanding campaigner and a huge fundraiser. She will not be difficult to beat.
If we vote candidates that represent what we want and the GOP loses an election or two, the GOP will take notice. Realizing they won't win unless they actually start standing up for conservative issues instead of giving them lip service, they will start pressing them, leading. When they lead, many more people will follow.
People follow leaders. Ever notice how few people turn out for elections.
It is a chess game. Time to play it looking more than just one move ahead every election.
that is a legitimate point and perspective. Not sure I agree but I should acknowledge it. It is actually a good question to ponder. Just considering the best approach - yours or mine - would be progress.
You seem like a thinking person so I doubt I'll get disagreement on opening up that question. Disagreement might come from the people in the GOP that have as their first priority holding onto power and their seats, that are happy to keeping losing the war as long as they are the ones holding onto their positions in the battle.
This thread is FRO For RINOS Only ;-)
No it's not.
But apparently it's for one who would vote for Boxer and apparently it's for one who would attaboy somebody who does.
I shouldn't have to point out what Boxer and her ilk has broken.
No...jump right in, Democrat.
“But apparently it’s for one who would vote for Boxer “
Thank you, troll. That’s all I need to hear. LMAO!!
” No...jump right in, Democrat. “
Yeah....FR is overrun with Duncan Hunter Democrats. Maybe you should have them walk the plank.
M O R O N
"But apparently it's for one who would vote for Boxer" Thank you, troll. Thats all I need to hear. LMAO!!
The first part of my comment wasn't even about you, the underlined portion was for you. You can't even get that right.
The comments -- both parts -- stands, your mindless name calling aside.
You play a Duncan Hunter supporter on Free Republic. Nothing more.
Anybody offering a boost to a poster who'd support Boxer over a RINO is a Democrat. Learn it, numbskull.
Give me a ping if I ever support a Democrat, an independent or a libertarian. Until then, pick up your Palin doll, and go home ;-)
Wrong, the problem is the inherent cowardice of the CA GOP. It's not a matter of too many gentlemen holding their tongues but too few willing to stand for the U.S. Constitution.
“Wrong, the problem is the inherent cowardice of the CA GOP.”
They don’t even try....
