March 21, 2010 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Tens of thousands gathered on the National Mall in Washington,DC Sunday for a rally focused on immigration reform.
Some of those gathered are from the Chicago area. They say they fear reform efforts have been put on the back burner.
While in the shadow of Sunday's health care reform vote, tens of thousands of protesters from around the country marched in Washington to push for a long-awaited immigration overhaul, as their fellow advocates in the Chicago area demanded the president make good on his promise of change.
"One thing we want to see [is] President Obama make a commitment to stop all raids and deportations," said Carlos Arango of United Front From Immigrants.
Thousands head to DC for immigration march Chicago demonstrators say they hope the March for America will again put immigration reform, which failed in 2006 and 2007, atop a national agenda so far dominated by the economy and the War on Terror.
"What we are DEMANDING, and the marchers in Washington are DEMANING, is that we have a fair, humane immigration reform policy in this country," community activist Carlos Perez said.

"This is not a time we need people legalized. It's a time we need immigration laws enforced, and that would free up 8 million jobs for law-abiding American citizens," said Pulido, Illinois Minuteman project director.
Another issue from the Great Uniter.
I read that over 600 buses were hired to take the protesters to D.C.
Free ride, free lunch.
Great country America.
It is remarkable that illegal immigrants are embraced by our representatives while US citizens are denigrated and then ignored.
Perhaps we should emigrate to Mexico and turn it into the land of a free and exceptional people.
Illegal immigration Ping
Obama is promising “comprehensive” reform. I think we all know what that means.
Geee - tens of thousands? Are there photos of this mob?
‘Reform’ (and that word should be banished forever from future political campaigns) of the status quo can only mean one of two things:
1) Policy and enforcement become more stringent
2) Policy and enforcement become more lax
Obviously option #1 is the furthest thing from the minds of those who, essentially, wish to weaken the sovereignty of the United States strictly for their own gain. Which leaves us with option #2. Perhaps if they would be honest about their intentions and stop with the ‘reform’ nonsense there could be an intelligent debate. But I’m not holding my breath.
This is the time to slash into legal immigration quotas and to slash the illegal immigrants from the confines of our borders.
At a time of massive unemployment, the last thing we need are more deadweights. Send them home.
I wonder if they support their own countries right to defend its borders and deport illegals. Of course they do, I was just being silly.... only America should not be allowed to.
If I read this correctly - The illegals get so many perks they want to remain illegal but just not be deported.
(I would deport all of them.)
“One thing we want to see [is] President Obama make a commitment to stop all raids and deportations,...”
What most Americans want to see is our immigration laws enforced!
Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia
This does sound suspiciously like propaganda, doesn’t it!
Where the Hell are the Dems going to get buses for ‘tens of thousands’?
Already the lead story on the internet portals. These media liars are shameless. They don’t quit their propaganda and conditioning for a second.
He qill have his way with this one too.
Why are they here?....The money. How do we get them out?...cut off there access to money. They are not here because they like the climate or the American way of life. They are only here because they have come to rely on the many benefits that they can get here while living with their whole extended families. They bring their country with them so as to avoid the culture shock of being real immigrants such as those who adopt the language and customs of the country and also obey the laws. They want it all on their terms not ours. They want to have everyone speak their language so that they do not have to learn ours. They want to take American jobs while collecting social benefits on the side. They want the right to use fake identities and social security cards so that they can fool the law, perhaps collect several welfare checks under multiple names and skip out of town when they are arrested for drunk driving or some other crime. They demand respect from us but they show no respect for us. It is all a one-way-street with them.
Remember, follow the money and deny them the money wherever possible and even if as a worst case scenario the Democrats pass amnesty try to make it financially not worthwhile to stay here. If they are going to work for less than Americans make sure that they cannot get special advantages that Americans cannot get such as social benefits and tighten up on local laws so that they cannot live 15 to 20 people in an apartment which enables them to live on the cheap wages their greedy unscrupulous employers give them.
About fifty percent of all immigrants both legal and illegal are using some form of social benefits. This is one of the reasons that Democrats love them. Not only do the immigrants vote Democrat but they also help to expand the already bloated Democrat patronage welfare system. The more immigration legal or illegal the less money you have in your wallet.
Washington is just about worthless, it is time to work on the local and state levels to study every possible way to make life uncomfortable for them.
Oh and by the way tell every living human being that you know that the Democrats are the ones who are responsible for BIG WELFARE. Point the blame right where it belongs — at the feet of Democrat Lyndon Johnson.
GREAT POST !!
I certainly hope that you live in Aizona. Common sense is rare these days.
God bless Sheriff Joe and JD Hayworth.
The media is never going to stop lying that is why we have to use our social networks, our families, churches, neighbors, clubs, the internet etc to get out the truth.
