POLL NUMBERS TRENDING POSITIVE FOR EHRLICH, BUT...
All recent polls seem to be trending towards an election victory for Republican Robert Ehrlich in the Maryland Governor's race.
Today, NBC4 released a Mason-Dixon poll showing that Ehrlich leads Townsend 47% to 46%, with a margin of error of 4 points and with 7% of those polled still undecided.
Even better then that, the Baltimore Sun published this poll today:
"The Maryland Poll - conducted for The Sun and The Gazette newspapers - found the Baltimore County congressman ahead of the lieutenant governor 48 percent to 44 percent among likely voters in Tuesday's election, with 8 percent undecided."
This is excellent news that even the most optimistic Republicans would not have imagined 6 months ago. Get excited, but don't let these positive numbers make you complacent.
Remember, the Maryland Democratic Party has a history of snatching victory at the last minute, through dirty-tricks, race baiting, and voting fraud. This year, it looks like they are trying to one-up themselves.
.....
REPUBLICANS DISENFRANCHISED
Fox News reports: As many as 9,000 Republican voters have been forced to reapply for absentee ballots because the pre-printed applications sent by the state party did not meet Maryland state Board of Elections requirements, according to the Maryland Republican Party.
The decision to deny the applications was made Oct. 18 by Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr., a Democrat, who Republicans have accused of trying to influence next Tuesday's election.
"If that isn't stepping into the middle of people's right to vote, I don't know what is," said Louis Pope, Maryland GOP vice-chairman.
"Before that piece was ever sent out it was checked by several attorneys," he said. "The attorney general's office decided they didn't want us to send out pre-printed applications."
If the Attorney General was a Republican trying to pull a stunt like this on Democrats, this would be all over the national news on the networks and the subject of civil rights lawsuits.... and had you heard about this before reading this post?
.....
Of course, the Dem. machine is also employing some tried and true last minute sheeple inundation tactics.
They have hundreds of paid and unpaid volunteers flooding voters with phone calls and door-to-door literature drops. In Baltimore City and Prince George's County, they have even established protocol: Each African-American household is slated to receive about 4 phone calls, at least 1 of which is from a live caller rather than a recorded message. These potential voters are also being inundated with direct mail full of outright lies, distortions, and half-truths about Bob Ehrlich's record.
And we all know how Election Day works. Maryland Democrats have uncanny success achieving high turnout when they need it most. Sometimes this turnout even exceeds 100%. And who wouldn't have that kind of turnout, with such a captive constituency. Illegal aliens, the dead, and even pets are consistent Democratic voters. Unfortunately, African-Americans aren't far behind. The Baltimore Sun poll shows them supporting Townsend over Ehrlich 82% to 6%.
Illegal and fraudulent voting in Maryland probably runs around 11%. I wouldn't bet on Ehrlich until he is at least 10 points ahead.
Personally, I would be irritated by anyone who called me 4 times to "remind" me to vote. I'd be tempted to tell them to kiss my behind.
How many phone calls could republicans make to these homes before it is called voter intimidation?
Mr.S, I recieved the new application Friday the 25th. It had to be returned by the following Tuesday, and mailed back {to me} by the next Tuesday all by the USPS. IF I "received" an absentee ballot, it would be illegal to vote in the polls. I didn't return the application, and will be crawling {if necessary} to the polling booth on Tuesday. Aggravating!! Peace and love,George.
If you want on or off my poll ping list, let me know!
There are a few dozen folks going door to door here in Howard County. They typically have address lists showing registered Republican and independent voters, and try to only hit those houses. I don't believe any of them are actually knocking on doors, I think they're just leaving literature on the door. The goal is not to win votes, but simply to get people to the polls.
You probably won't see any literature or receive any calls/visits from the Dems... unless you get something from a local candidate. They are specifically targeting certain neighborhoods and demographics (African-Americans, other traditional Dem. voters). And they'll certainly be ignoring Western Maryland... way too far outside their comfort zone.
Infuriating!
I didn't return the application, and will be crawling {if necessary} to the polling booth on Tuesday.
Don't know if you're being serious about having difficulty getting to the polls or just making a point here, but if you or anyone you know *will* have difficulty getting to the polls, you *SHOULD* be able to contact your county GOP headquarters and ask them to help you get to the polls. If anyone tries this and has no success, please let me know, as I want to document it.
That's why we have to drum up enough living and breathing voters for Bob. If enough Republicans and conservatives in Maryland actually come to the polls on Tuesday, Bob will win comfortably no matter how much vote fraud the Dems perpetuate. Turnout is KEY, and above-average conservative turnout is what it will take.
Yeah, it's not worth even trying unless he's 20 points ahead.
No! Make that 30 points!!!
Yeah, we should all just give up.
