The worst thing about this expose is that that it was published by the New York Post, allegedly the conservative tabloid. Talk about nannyism! Will the Post do a column about how much time their columnists spend at the local saloon instead of writing? Doubtful.

I hate to say it, She, but these people brought it on themselves.
This one has nothing to do with smoking or private property rights. This one is about abuse of privelege. At least that's the way I see it now.
I DO think that if this is the first time they have ever been observed doing this, the punishments might be too harsh. But with Bloominidiot pushing, I think the envelope for city employees just tore.

And this is still a legal product....... hey maybe we should take governments to court for not banning this vile weed.

The more fanatic the ANTI's get, the more idiotic they look.

Do a poor job. Get fired. Seems reasonable but surprisingly some are shocked by this.

Yeah! like that get anything done when back at their desks.
When gov't workers reach 40% of the population we're done for. Its almost that now, I think.

And everyone else in this office are busy little bees except for their 2 fifteen minute breaks.

Yeah, right.

I am wondering..... who has the time to time all these people, who ever it is, needs to get a job.

Having said that, it's more about goofing off than anyting else, do they keep an eye on the non-smokers goofing off.... somehow I doubt it.

Bloomberg's a walking, talking d**k.

I absolutely despise people like him. He does everything in his (now considerable) power to make a legal act, smoking, as illegal as hell..........then fires people who are forced to play by their stupid, silly rules (e.g. you have to go outside to catch a butt). Then, you get some d**kwad reporter (real crusader for the public, this one, eh??) who takes pictures while holding a stopwatch......attempting to make a handful of smokers look like f**king criminals.

There is not enough money on this planet to get me to live in NYC.

"They'll all go through due process. That might lead to termination. It might lead to something else," said Marder.

Like what else? The death penalty perhaps? Pretty vicious crime these people perpetrated.

Looks like the white guy was punished more severely than the women and peeples of colour.

Sounds like discrimination agsinst an addicted worker.

What if he'd/they'd be heroin addicts?

YOU know the answer.

I have observed guys at work who smoke(construction outdoors) and you never see them lighting up and standing around smoking. Yet they smoke a lot. I have seen others who think they have a right to stand around and smoke while others are working.
It amazes me how smooth a few men are at lighting up and smoking while never slowing down or missing a beat.
I get rid of anyone who stops and smokes in a hurry.

Swinton took breaks totaling 69 minutes before lunch - more than double his daily allotment.

If he had taken these breaks to go to the mens' room, he could probably now file suit against the Mayor under the American's With Disabilities Act.

But he's a smoker...so he's dirty. </sarcasm>

Well Freepers, you're losing another kindered spirit in the smoking realm. Tomorrow I go back on the patch and hopefully this time I will quit for good.

With me luck
