A top Housing Authority official has smoked himself out of an $80,000-a-year job.

After consulting with the mayor's office, Housing chairman Tino Hernandez yesterday ordered the immediate firing of Robert Swinton, the deputy director of the Office of Facility Planning, one of five employees spotted by a Post reporter last week in extended smoking sessions outside the agency's headquarters at 250 Broadway.

I gotta agree with you, Joe. 69 minutes for two butts is pushing it a bit lot.

I agree as well, but what say........ we watch all the managers and their 2-3 hour lunches.

Considering these breaks averaged approx 18 mins apiece and you would consider making love to your wife an acceptable alternative during worktime, I wouldnt be bragging bud...JFK

I was going to say something like that, but decided to be a lady.... just for a day. :-}

Before smoking was banned in the office, non-smokers had to put up with the stench and irritation of the smoker's bad habit. It is amazing how one lambasts the typical "government" worker but if he is a smoker he is defended.

And golly gee......I had to put up with the STENCH FROM A 300 LB MAN. So what's the difference.

You say that he didn't "hurt me with his fat?" I say: well, maybe not, but the stence from his fat sweaty body sure ruined MY day! And wearing a FACE mask was out of the question, since I was a Travel Agent working with PEOPLE!

Of course, this wouldn't even be a concern if the anti-smoking nuts would allow companies to designate a smoking room inside a building or allow smoking at a persons desk and install filtering equipment.

I used to be able to smoke at my desk. I never took a break. Maybe a trip to the ladies room once or twice, but I NEVER took a break. I was quite happy working away with my "filled" ashtray. Filled? Because the CUSTOMERS would come in and USE it. heh!

Do a poor job. Get fired. Seems reasonable but surprisingly some are shocked by this.

Police investigate brawl in which man was stabbed

They should have just smoked or this wouldn't have happened.

Man kills family in accident while on cocaine

He should have just smoked! Cigarettes have NEVER killed anyone while driving.

I would hope that the fever-swamp Pubbies on here would give a thought to Mr. Bloomberg the next time they rant about separating the political sheep from the goats purely based on the letter behind their names.

Fortunately for New Yawkers I think this jerk will be a one-termer ... not to suggest that the Dim alternative will be a big improvement.

Joe Cherners buddy. LOL

I find it truly amazing that a person (cherner) vocally promotes tolerance, acceptance and NORMALIZATION of a lifestyle the VAST majority find repulsive and vile, is ILLEGAL in many jurisdictions, and is known to cause a 100% fatal conagious disease, while at the same time VOCALLY and VIRULENTLY promoting intolerance and DENORMALIZATION of a lifestyle choice that some people do find repulsive, is legal, may possibly cause illness, but is not contagious.

I'll have to go through my tapes and find cherner's CBS interview where he and his "partner" are making their case for gay adoptions. If I remember correctly, at least one, if not both of their "daughters" are wearing ANTI-smoker T-shirts.

Gabz, answer me a question:

On one of my other posts, this guy told me that Free Republic is not a Conserverative Forum. It's for everyone who believes in something. I emailed the Admin Mod, but he hasn't answered me. This guy has been with FR since 1999.

I can copy and past this guys words to you if you like. What do you say???

HeHe ... apparently you've never knocked an ash off in your lap. I had a couple of pretty close calls back in the good old days of my 3-pack habit. ;o)

There are numerous cases of people killing themselves while trying to smoke, light or put out their cigs. Even cases where the lit butt landed on the driver in the car behind after being thrown out of the window.

No difference. You should not have to put up with the stench. Now go home and increase your risk of cancer.
