A top Housing Authority official has smoked himself out of an $80,000-a-year job.

After consulting with the mayor's office, Housing chairman Tino Hernandez yesterday ordered the immediate firing of Robert Swinton, the deputy director of the Office of Facility Planning, one of five employees spotted by a Post reporter last week in extended smoking sessions outside the agency's headquarters at 250 Broadway.

Just keep your filthy habit out of my face and there is no problem. If you don't want comments, don't post on a public board.

You can kiss my white American butt, Cindy from Florida!

Filthy habit out of your face? Dear girl, I have no desire to EVER see your face, thank you!

And why don't YOU go back to the Yahoo boards, where you will fit right in.

It seems that some of the antis at FR have been reading Georgina Lovell's "You are the Target" this is one of her favorite line - about the chest xrays.

You recognize this one, eh? Well, Max jumped on her harder then I did, yet she still tries to slime all over ME. Go figure.

Can anyone imagine having this one live next door? I sure can't. I think this one lives in the belly of America. One of those groups that are trying to unsurp the USA. Things that make you go "hmmmmmmmmmmmm"

sheLion - Georgina Lovell is that lovely anti from the Yahoo boards better known as darwinna. She has written a book in which she makes these claims about the radiation. Much, if not all, of which has been resoundingly debunked by others more knowlegable on the subject than she.

As far as I know we've never been graced with the presence of her heinous from British Columbia here at FR!!!

Well, she sure is a nasty azz. That’s one reason I never go over to those hate boards.

Those hate boards are “in your face communism” to the ninth degree, IMHO.

(I didn’t turn on ICQ because NASCAR is coming on. I need a NASCAR break from these idiots. Heh!)

By taking extended smoking breaks they are stealing from taxypayers...

Most of us who work for the government have official work hours, mine are 7-3:30.

Hubby is a Government Employee as well. He goes in at 6 to 3. When they aren't busy, they go outside for a break. The non-smokers go with them to "stretch their legs." It's a "if not busy, break allowed" policy. Most of the time, they are just too busy to take a break.

I'm paid to give eight hours of work... That means I should be at my workstation and available to the public in order to do that...

Its stealing from taxpayers to take extended breaks due to lack of work... If there's that much lack of work they should give thought to abolishing a position that is not needed because that too is stealing from taxpayers...

Well, I agree. If people can stand around the coffee machine eating donuts or reading the newspaper with their feet propped up on their desk, then there isn't enough work for them.

But you know, most places never go non-stop. Even production lines take breaks. Humans aren't machines.

You need to spend the day with me... We've had so many budget cuts that I've been working what was three positions instead of one... and with the budgetary concerns of my state, AZ, it doesn't look promising any time soon...

Well, when one is busy, there isn't any need for breaks. Maybe the Powder Room from time to time, but if you have no time to drink coffee, then there is no need for Powder Room breaks either, unless it's for sanity sake. :)

I liked to be busy. Made the day go faster.

Some States are just better then others:

Agencies' Facilities for Smoking Range From Outdoors to Cozy

Unlike many smokers, Vonnetta Gordon doesn't dread winter's approach. Instead of shivering outside when she grabs a cigarette, she can pop into a fully enclosed, garage-sized smoking shelter at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northwest Washington.

You're completely missing my point... Its stealing from the taxpayers when one takes more breaks then they are allowed by law...

Do you think one person can actually perform to the necessarily quality of three? That's stealing as well...

Most of us who work for the government have official work hours, mine are 7-3:30.

That's true for government employees around here as well.

Regular employees only work a 37.5 hour work, but a usual M-F schedule is 8am - 5pm. Of that 9 hours 1.5 hours (90minutes) are for breaks and lunch. Lots of people I know work through lunch and leave early, providing they have a supervisor who is flexible.

I don't know if that is this gentleman's situation - but assuming a similar situation - the story only reported him using 69 minutes, 21 minutes less than the above exampled 90 minutes. That, possibly being the case - it doesn't appear to be stealing from the tax payers.

Government employees, smokers and non-smokers are all taxpayers as well.
