This has been a festering sore of a scandal from the day it came out that Dan Morales had attempted to get millions of dollars for a crony of his who, he claimed, worked on the case, but who in fact never dedicated an hours' worth of billable time to it, a lawyer who just wanted in on the huge payoff. The people of Texas got screwed along with the smokers. The major beneficiaries of the tobacco lawsuits were not the people of the states, or children or anyone else, but ambulance chasers. They have now started their shakedown of fast-food providers in their endless campaign of greed. They are shameless parasites on the body politic. Congress lets them get away with it and state governments collude, because the lawyers allow the states to keep a few scraps of what's left.

I hate corruption as much as the next guy.

But in this case Texas is getting it's just desserts. The whole idea of those stupid lawsuits and the ultimate settlements have reeked of corruption since the word GO.

The ONLY people that deserve those billions of dollars the bottom feeding sharks claim to be there are the smokers of Texas who are the only ones ultimately paying out the money.

Maybe smokers in Texas should counter sue to reclaim all their money.

Lawyers as the sand in the gears of the American economy are one of the subjects in my latest book. (As a member of the breed myself, I've seen some scummy stuff.) Click the second link, below.
